어린이에게 좋은 도서를 제공할 의무와 책임을 지고 있는 대표적인 기관은 도서관이다. 사서는 어린이를 위한 좋은 도서에 대한 정보를 요구하는 개인이나 단체를 위하여 상담과 조언을 할 수 있어야 한다. 그러나 현실적으로 출판물의 양적인 측면을 고려하면 사서가 어린이의 발달 단계에 적합하면서 좋은 책의 기준도 충족시키는 도서들을 선정하는 작업은 간단한 일이 아니다. 이상적인 관점에서 본다면, 도서를 선정하는 사서가 구입할 모든 책을 좋은 책의 평가 기준에 근거해서 살펴보는 것이 이상적이지만 한정된 시간 내에 모든 책을 자세하게 살펴보고 평가하는 일은 실제 업무상황을 고려할 때 거의 불가능한 일이다. This study investigated teachers' decision-making and related factors in the elementary textbook adoption process. Our participants include 296 elementary teachers who took part in the mathematics textbook (grades 3 and 4) adoption committees in his/her schools. Our study used the decision-making model of Shavelson and Stern (1981) for analyzing teacher beliefs and attitudes concerning choices and priorities, judgments, evaluation methods, and key factors to reviewing and selecting a mathematics textbook. Our discussion includes teacher beliefs and intentions and the way they come into conflict with determinant factors that influence the decision-making of textbook adoption. Findings also reveal the unique nature of elementary school teaching as generalists in contrast with secondary teachers as specialists, playing a significant role in the adoption process. Lastly, the study discusses the entanglements of textbook reform and explains the discrepancy between textbook authorization/approval policies versus the plight of little change (and innovation) in mathematics textbooks.

우리 협회에서는 한해의 도서관계 주요 뉴스를 정리함으로써 1년을 정리하고 새로운 발전을 도모함에 있어 기초자료로 삼고자 올해부터 매년 도서관계 10대 뉴스를 선정ㆍ발표하기로 하였다. 올해 10대 뉴스는 우리 협회 사무국에서 기초자료를 수집, 정리하고 이를 참고자료로 첨부하여 관련 단체 및 협회 전문위원회 위원장 및 도서관인 대중에게 서면, 인터넷 등으로 의견을 수집한 후, 취합된 의견을 참고하여 협회 사무국에서 최종 선정하였다. 10대 뉴스 선정에는 우리 협회 조원호 사무총장, 이용남 기획위원회 위원장, 이경구 간행물편집위원회 위원장이 참여하였다.

Academic libraries need to select and purchase essential collections to support students and faculty in education and research. Therefore, libraries reflect patrons' information needs on collection development through patron purchase requests. This study analyzed the pattern and efficiency of patron purchase requests in a longer-term perspective; for over a decade. Patron purchase requests show different tendencies depending on academic characteristics, which enabled libraries to identify the users' information needs in various subjects. Typically users contributed to collection development by expressing information needs in their fields of study through purchase requests. In the meantime, users in certain fields showed interest in other subject areas besides their own to select general books on various topics. Through this study, it became evident that a major portion of library collections were affected by active purchase requests from a small number of users. However those books were proven to be in demand in terms of effectiveness. Patron-driven acquisition is being implemented as an effective collection development policy.

Book review Is a mean that provides Qualitative evaluation and at the same time it plays a role as selection tools for libraries. Therefore, this study Identified various media providing reviews on children's books, evaluated whether the reviews in the media were useful as selection tools of current books, and a desirable model for the book review media that would reform the existing problems was suggested. The efforts to make up for the above suggestions are needed, so that the current children's book review media can properly play a role as selection tools. Above all, at this point in time, it is necessary to publish review media made in the view of libraries and librarians.

수소를 기반으로 하는 신재생에너지의 생산, 관리 및 이용 시스템을 연계하여 운전하는 Green City 실증단지 구현을 위한 국내 도서 선정은 지자체별 이해관계와 지역발전계획에 따라 첨예한 논란을 수반할 소지가 있다. 입지 선정 절차상에서 예비후보지 선정과정이 형식적이거나 입지선정기준이 없어 입지선정을 위한 평가항목, 평가기준, 항목별 배점 등이 분석자의 의도에 따라 조정될 수 있는 문제점이 있다. 또한 각 지역에 대한 입지선정을 위한 기준이 있다 하더라도 추상적이거나 객관적이지 않은 기준이 많아 입지선정에 직접 적용하기 어렵고, 자연환경, 사회경제, 법제, 입지조건, 부하특성, 지자체 호응 등 인자들의 평가의 형평성이 결여될 수 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 의사결정도구로 이용되는 계층분석법(AHP)을 입지선정절차에 적용하였다. 객관적인 정보가 제공 가능한 평가항목을 설정하고, 관련 전문가들의 설문조사를 통하여 주관적인 중요도 결과를 취합하였다. 이 결과를 계층분석법을 활용하여 평가항목별 가치를 측정하여 가중치를 부여하였고, Green City 실증단지 구현을 위한 후보도서의 순위를 제시하였다.

‘도서관문화’ 편집실에서 회원 여러분들을 대신하여 매월 1곳씩 가보고 싶은 도서관을 둘러보고 그 탐방기를 게재하고자 한다. 첫 번째 탐방은 2003년도 국내 도서관계 10대 뉴스 선정 인터넷 투표에서 나타난 도서관인들의 관심을 반영하여 국내 제1호 대통령도서관인 김대중 도서관을 다녀왔다
