  • The main purpose of this study is to analyze the metacognition of digital library search behavior of college students and to provide a fundamental data for the designing a user-centered online information retrieval system to find more optimal search results. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, metacognition was classified into the five main categories, including schema-training, planning, monitoring, evaluation, and transfer, and a total of twenty subcategories were included. A total of 112 students participated in the online questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 26, and it was found that there was a significant correlation between metacognition of college students and their digital library searching behavior. In particular, the digital library search experience was found to be the strongest factor to be considered as the most important variable in digital library design based on the aspect of user metacognition.

  • In this study, we investigated the information users' needs and information seeking behavior in the field of science and technology. We found that the science and technology researchers most frequently needed information while conducting the research & development related tasks and drafting research papers. The researchers attributed the main sources of research ideas to be the communication among colleagues and the literature review. The researchers's most preferred information sources were digital libraries, web search engines, and academic information portal. In conclusion, the science and technology researchers regarded the online use of electronic materials as the primary source of information. We hope that this investigation reported herein to be the foundation for developing user-centered information services for the science and technology discipline.

  • As functions of public library has become diversified, proper environment color plan enhancing a supporting environment of user based on a function of public library should be achieved by utilizing space chromatics which is a psychological environmental factor. Therefore, public library's color environment of each space functions should be understood and the foundation of color plan enhancing supporting environment of user should also be established under the premise that public library color environment which supports integrated functions to every local residents by meeting functional roles of library. As functions of public library expands, this study has its purpose to analyze color environment characteristics by mainly focusing on library of Busan region to study color environment supporting function of each space. Through a literature research, function and role of color, environment color have considered, and through a preceding research analysis on public library's present condition analysis and tendency of library color preference, theoretical background on library color environment has deducted. By researching present condition of environment color application at 9 public libraries located at Busan, the environment color characteristics of library has deducted through an image adjective analysis using color system, coloration analysis, IRI(Image Research Institute) color image scale. This study can be provided as a reference data for environment color plan based on spatial function to enhance supporting environment of public library user, and it is expected to utilize in the library facility plan which has been diversified.

  • This study is to investigate archival use behavior of history teachers in high schools. The study conducted 3 times interviews with high school history teachers and carried out a survey on recognition of archives, archival use, archival seeking behavior, and harrier factors for archival use to 30 teachers from the 2 local communities of history teachers. According to the survey, history teachers have used archives for raising the historical understanding by students in their classes. But the tight curriculums of history and the lack of time to search archives were barrier factors for teachers to use archives in their classes. The teachers who participated in this survey suggested that integrated DBs of archives in Korea and source books with commentaries need to promote use of archives in history classes.

  • This paper addresses issues related to the design of an interface supporting fine grained interaction with documents, focusing on a particular type of scholarly documents, journal articles. In order to make a usable interface we need to understand user behaviors as well as technologies that present new possibilities of enhancing user experience. This paper reviews studies along three dimensions : user information behavior in searching/using documents, new conceptual/technical models for electronic documents, and interaction mechanisms. Putting together the understanding of users and enabling technologies, requirements and considerations in developing systems with granular interactions are discussed in the conclusion.

  • This is to develop Intelligent Retrieval System which can automatically present early query's category terms(association terms connected with knowledge structure of relevant terminology) through learning function and it changes searching form automatically and runs it with association terms. For the reason, this theoretical study of Intelligent Automatic Indexing System abstracts expert's index term through learning and clustering algorism about automatic classification, text mining(categorization), and document category representation. It also demonstrates a good capacity in the aspects of expense, time, recall ratio, and precision ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out ways for establishing the identity and for strengthening the function of Dong-office minilibraries, which are nation-widely sprouted according to the Government’s policy of converting the Dong-office’s functions. The general operating status of the minilibraries were investigated by telephone interviews with the minilibrary operators, the collection and usage status by on-site observation, and the user behaviour by user surveys. For the effective operation of the Dong-office minilibrariea they should be identified as service stations of public libraries, supported technically by the local public libraries, and connected to the local educational and social service institutions for the securance of users and volunteers. Networks among the minilibrary operators should also be established for exchanges and cooperations. Furthermore, operating models should be developed according to the library’s environments and the user’s needs.

  • This study aimed to analyze the usage behaviors of university students seeking and sharing everyday life information through an online community called Everytime. The study was designed based on everyday life information-seeking and activity theory models, and students from various universities were interviewed using a qualitative research method. Findings showed that Everytime users perceive Everytime as a valuable online community for pursuing and sharing everyday life information. It was primarily used to search for university life information, such as academic calendar, class, and graduation, and health, restaurants, and housing. In the case of the freshmen and sophomores who entered during the COVID-19 pandemic, their dependence on Everytime was high, and juniors and seniors who experienced university life before COVID-19 also responded that Everytime is one of the essential sources of information in university life. Although Everytime provides quick and valuable information, users mentioned the moral hazard as a major factor hindering the active use of Everytime. The results of this study are expected to be used as primary data for informatics research on the online community of college students and the development and operation of online communities for university students.

  • Server transaction logs containing complete click-through data from a digital library of primarily image-based documents were analyzed to better understand user search session behavior. One month of data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and network analysis methods. The findings reveal iterative search behaviors centered on result views and evaluation and topical areas of focus for the search sessions. The study is novel in its combined analytical techniques and use of click-through data for image collections.
