Development and Research of MMA Waterproof Coating and Waterproof System for Concrete Civil Structures (콘크리트 토목구조물 교면용 MMA 도막방수재 및 교면방수 시스템의 개발 연구)

  • Asphalt-based waterproofing materials for bridge decks face issues such as softening or liquefaction of the material during the process of pouring hot asphalt concrete on top of the waterproofing layer. This leads to instability and reduced thickness of the waterproofing layer. To address these problems, new solutions beyond the existing materials, including the development and adoption of new materials, are required. Therefore, this study investigates the properties of MMA(Methyl Methacrylate) coating waterproofing material, which meets the basic physical properties for bridge deck waterproofing. We examined the overall quality standards in a system where the substrate concrete, waterproofing material, and paving layer are integrated. The study confirmed the applicability of MMA coating waterproofing material on bridge decks. The results indicate that a stable application of MMA coating waterproofing material for civil engineering structures' bridge decks can be achieved with a mix ratio of hard MMA resin : soft MMA resin : powder = 6 : 34 : 60. Additionally, when using emulsified asphalt with hardening characteristics for the adhesion between the dissimilar materials of MMA waterproofing and asphalt concrete, it is expected to meet the minimum quality standards of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's 'Guidelines for Asphalt Concrete Pavement Construction (2021.07)'.

A Study on the Physical Property by Construction Condition of Urethane Waterproofing Membrane (우레탄 도막방수재의 시공조건에 따른 물성변화)

  • This study is for quality standard establishment of urethane waterproofing membrane method which is mostly applied to waterproofing method for underground parking lot and rooftop. The experiments were carried out on color differences, membrane thickness, tensile property by curing period of liquid urethane before placing protective concrete, and resistance of crack movement according to different substrate surface and reinforcement of non-woven fabric. As a result of experiments, it was found that color differences is increase, membrane thickness is thick, tensile property is low as concrete placing period is shorter. In the fatigue property, membrane thickness of 3 mm was not broken, but 1~2 mm was broken and in the case of the membrane reinforced with non-woven fabric was more stable comparatively non-reinforcement one.

Linear Regression Analysis of Tensile Performance for the Polyurethane Coating Waterproofing Material Periodically Exposed to Chemical Degradation (회귀 분석을 통한 폴리우레탄 도막방수재의 장기 화학 열화조건에 따른 인장성능 변화 지표)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tensile strength performance of the polyurethane coating material used as the waterproofing material in concrete structures. A linear regression equation is proposed to establish a correlation on the tensile strength of polyurethane coating membrane against periodic exposure to chemical degradation. The polyurethane film membrane showed a minimum strength of 23% to a maximum of 38% when subjected to chemical degradation. The elongation rate showed a relation with the tensile strength deterioration rate of at least 15% to 22% at maximum, and the proposed regression equation could be used to predict the degree of performance change of the polyurethane coating membrane under chemical degradation condition.

  • Water-soluble rubber asphalt-based waterproofing material, which is one of the waterproofing materials for building structures, is mainly used indoors (toilet, kitchen, balcony, etc.). In general, asphalt-based materials are used for non-exposed installation, rather than as exposed type as they do not deviate from their usual basic black pigmentation, and water-soluble rubber asphalt-based coating waterproofing materials are basically limited to indoors because of their low physical properties. Accordingly, in order to improve the tensile and elongation properties, a silane coupling agent, an inorganic filler, and a processor oil w ere added to improve the physical properties, and accordingly, the basic physical properties of the outdoor coating waterproofing material quality standard were analyzed. As a result, the water-soluble rubber asphalt coating waterproofing material compared with the exposure quality standard showed a result that exceeded the basic physical property quality standard of silicone rubber in all items under test evaluation, but the tensile strength and tear strength of the first class of urethane rubber were chloroprene. It was found that the performance compared to the quality standards of rubber-based tear strength was about 34.2% to about 40.8%.

Oil Leakage Characteristics of Asphalt Mastic Waterproofing Membrane Coating According to Particle Size and Content of Organic/Mineral Extender (유·무기질 체질안료 입도 및 함량에 따른 아스팔트 매스틱 도막방수재의 누유 특성)

  • In this study, the purpose of this study was to quantitatively grasp the specific correlation between the raw material and the occurrence of leakage by analyzing the characteristics of leakage by adjusting the type and content of the raw material constituting the asphalt mastic coating waterproofing material. To this end, two raw materials, CA (calcium carbonate) and ASE (anti-sedimentation), which are organic and mineral extender for asphalt mastic waterproofing membrane coating, were selected. viscosity and oil leakage stability (20 ℃, 40 ℃) was evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, the oil leakage stability and viscosity were inversely proportional to the CA average particle size, and it was quantitatively proven that a correlation in proportion to the ASE content was established. The results of this study are expected to be used as core data for basic mixing design in the future mixing studies to improve leakage of asphalt mastic waterproofing membrane coating.

  • The subject of this study, Eco-friendly Polyurethane Waterproofing Membrane Coating of Exposed Type is manufactured by replacing environmental hazardous substance such as Toluene, Dioctyl Phthalate with Dimethyl Carbonate, waste-soybean oil. As part of existing filler is also replaced with waste-rubber chip and waste-soybean oil. As a result of environment friendly tests, in test of detection of VOCs case was contented with the Ministry of Environment standards at 5% below. Testing methods for heavy metal extracted was contented with standards for official wastes test method. So it is judged that environment friendly is secured.

  • Despite its excellent properties, polyurea coating waterproofing material is exposed to sunlight when it is applied to the exterior wall of concrete by exposed waterproofing method such as a roof of a building, resulting in a problem of causing a large deterioration in performance compared to initial properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of carbon fiber incorporation on the performance of carbon fiber - reinforced polyureas and to study the optimum carbon fiber length and content respectively. Result of the study confirmed that the performance of the carbon fiber was improved by 2% or more, and the carbon fiber length was 30 ㎛ and the mixing ratio was 3%. It is expected that stable durability can be secured when manufacturing fiber-incorporated polyureas.

When you do the waterproofing and anticorrosive work of main concrete from the design stage, the material and method of construction need to be correctly applied to appropriate circumstance conditions. Epoxy have mostly been used for concrete water tank structure. Lately, lots of subjects on adaption of polyurea resin waterproofing and anticorrosive are under discussion. Then, we attempt to approach by evaluating and comparing every capabilities with another waterproofs in this study. Performance evaluation items include the adherence performance, the imprint of seal performance, temperature dependence performance, promotion weatherizing ability, inner chemical performance, drinking water eruptive performance. Through the experiment analysis, we found that the polyurea resin waterproofing membrane is dominantly superior to other waterproofs. According to this study, we suggest the polyurea resin waterproofing membrane as a new waterproofing material for concrete structure.
