Implementation of Lane Luminance Measurement Application using Smartphone (스마트폰 기반의 도로 밝기 측정 어플리케이션)

  • 최근까지의 교통사고 통계에 따르면 주간 보다는 야간에 더 많은 사고가 발생하며, 사고 원인 중 하나는 부적절한 조명 시설로 인한 시야 미확보, 눈의 피로감 증가가 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰 기반으로 야간 도로 밝기 측정 어플리케이션을 구현하여 야간에 부적절한 조명 시설이 설치된 지점을 파악하기 위해서 위치 정보와 밝기 정보, 이동 방향 정보를 실시간으로 데이터베이스에 저장하여 모니터링해주는 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 이를 위해, 안드로이드 NDK을 이용하여 Native 환경에서 차선 검출 및 RGB 색 공간의 값을 휘도 값으로 변환 알고리즘을 작성하였다. 또한 스마트폰의 카메라를 이용하여 실시간으로 도로 영상을 입력 받은 후 ROI 설정 하여 연산 속도를 향상시켰고, 차선 검출을 통해 차선 사이의 도로 밝기 정보를 획득하고 GPS 센서를 이용하여 이동 방향 정보와 위치 정보를 획득하여 데이터베이스에 저장하였다. 어플리케이션 사용자들의 주행 정보를 바탕으로 도로 밝기 값 데이터베이스를 활용하여 눈부심 및 조명관련 사고 위험 구간을 자동으로 알려주는 후속 연구를 진행할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

A Road Luminance Measurement Application based on Android (안드로이드 기반의 도로 밝기 측정 어플리케이션 구현)

  • According to the statistics of traffic accidents over recent 5 years, traffic accidents during the night times happened more than the day times. There are various causes to occur traffic accidents and the one of the major causes is inappropriate or missing street lights that make driver's sight confused and causes the traffic accidents. In this paper, with smartphones, we designed and implemented a lane luminance measurement application which stores the information of driver's location, driving, and lane luminance into database in real time to figure out the inappropriate street light facilities and the area that does not have any street lights. This application is implemented under Native C/C++ environment using android NDK and it improves the operation speed than code written in Java or other languages. To measure the luminance of road, the input image with RGB color space is converted to image with YCbCr color space and Y value returns the luminance of road. The application detects the road lane and calculates the road lane luminance into the database sever. Also this application receives the road video image using smart phone's camera and improves the computational cost by allocating the ROI(Region of interest) of input images. The ROI of image is converted to Grayscale image and then applied the canny edge detector to extract the outline of lanes. After that, we applied hough line transform method to achieve the candidated lane group. The both sides of lane is selected by lane detection algorithm that utilizes the gradient of candidated lanes. When the both lanes of road are detected, we set up a triangle area with a height 20 pixels down from intersection of lanes and the luminance of road is estimated from this triangle area. Y value is calculated from the extracted each R, G, B value of pixels in the triangle. The average Y value of pixels is ranged between from 0 to 100 value to inform a luminance of road and each pixel values are represented with color between black and green. We store car location using smartphone's GPS sensor into the database server after analyzing the road lane video image with luminance of road about 60 meters ahead by wireless communication every 10 minutes. We expect that those collected road luminance information can warn drivers about safe driving or effectively improve the renovation plans of road luminance management.

Color Uniformity Estimation of Printouts Using a Scanner and Average Brightness (스캐너와 평균 밝기를 이용한 프린터 출력물의 색 균일도 추정)

  • Among many factors for evaluating the performance of color printers, the color uniformity is an important factor during the stage of development and mass production. Currently the color uniformity is measured manually using densitometers and the data is analyzed by inspectors to evaluate the performance. In this paper a new method of estimating the color uniformity using scanners and average brightness is presented. The color uniformity of printouts is estimated by using the test pattern and commercially available scanner. It is shown from experiments that the estimated data are similar to the data measured by densitometers. Also, with the analysis of the color uniformity, the usefulness of the proposed approach is presented.

  • The most important, essential prerequisite for the improvement of vehicle license plate recognition is the acquisition of high-quality vehicle images. Because typical images acquired from roads are affected by different environmental factors including the time of day, sunlight, and the weather, the brightness and the shape of the license plates in the images are inconsistent. To this end, many image corrections are performed, resulting in slower recognition and lower recognition rate. Therefore, in this study, we used the images acquired from roads to test the proposed method for fast capturing of vivid, high-quality vehicle images by measuring the brightness around license plates during real-time image capturing to control in real time the factors, such as shutter speed, brightness, and gain of the camera, that affect the brightness and the quality of the images.

  • 본 논문에서는 산업용 CT 영상에서 다중 해상도 기반의 밝기값 정보와 형태 정보를 이용하여 내부 기공결함을 정확하고 빠르게 검출하는 기법을 제안한다. 첫째, 대용량 CT 데이터에서 계산량을 줄이기 위하여 1/2 해상도로 변환 후 관심영역을 자동 산정하고, 링 또는 금속 인공물 등의 잡음을 제거하기 위해 비등방성 확산 필터링을 수행한다. 둘째, 기공 결함 후보군을 검출하기 위해 밝기값 기반의 결함 검출 기법을 제안한다. 셋째, 결함 검출의 민감도를 향상시키기 위해 형태 정보를 이용한 기공 결함 검출 기법을 제안한다. 넷째, 수행시간 가속화를 위하여 다중 해상도 영상 처리 및 Open MP를 적용한다. 제안방법의 평가를 위하여 육안평가와 정확성 평가, 수행시간을 측정하였다. 정확성 평가는 실제 기공 결함과 제안방법 적용 후 결함 간 중복 픽셀 수로 측정하였다. 실험 결과 평균 중복 픽셀 비율은 91%로 측정되었고, 가장 큰 비율은 99%, 가장 작은 비율은 80%로 측정되었다. 다중 해상도 기법 및 Open MP를 적용함으로써 해상도 데이터 수행시간보다 90% 가속화되었다.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the dyeing possibility of purple corn stem and leaf. The UV absorbance of the purple corn stem extract and leaf extract at different pH does not change. It is considered to use to efficiently measure the purple corn pigment content when using UV absorbance at 520~560 nm. By adjusting higher pH values in the extraction dyed fabrics, silk and cotton fabric used by the purple corn leaf extraction decreased lightness and redness. Extent for dyeing the fabric depending on the concentration, lightness and redness showed a tendency to increase color values when silk and cotton concentration increases. Also when the longer the dyeing time, silk and cotton increased lightness but redness decreased.

  • The tunnel is the place where brightness changes abruptly. It is important to grasp the road situation and the traffic situation of the tunnel accurately for safe and secure driving, and tunnel lighting installation should be well maintained. Luminance and illuminance of the tunnel inside should be measured periodically to maintain enough brightness. But traditional manual measurement could not guarantee the fastness and trustworthy of the measured values. In this paper, a mobile measuring system for tunnel lighting luminance and illuminance was developed and a result regarding the propriety of the system was derived.

Measuring Night Sky Brightness over the Downtown Using a DSLR Camera (DSLR 카메라를 이용한 도심지의 밤하늘 밝기 측정)

  • We measured night sky brightness (NSB) over the downtown using a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera combined to a small telescope for educational purpose, considering that most secondary schools are located in urban areas and have limitation in the equipment for astronomical observation. Raw format images from DSLR camera are not affected by various camera settings except for the ISO, and the typical photometric uncertainty including filter transformation is about 0.1 mag. Near the zenith, the NSB of the B, V, and r-band is 17.5, 17.1, and $16.9mag\;arcsec^{-2}$, respectively. The approximate limiting magnitude is derived to be 17.5 mag at B-band and 17 mag at V, r-band. A large scale artificial light close to the observation site is the dominant cause for making observing condition worse, increasing the NSB by $0.6mag\;arcseec^{-2}$ regardless of the altitude and filter.

태조본 석각 천상열차분야지도 정밀 측정 분석

  • 우리나라에는 조선 태조와 숙종대에 돌에 새겨 만든 두 개의 천상열차분야지도(天象列次分野之圖)가 남아 전하고 있다. 숙종본 천문도는 태조본을 다시 복각한 것으로 알려져 있으며 천문도의 구성은 태조본의 뒷면과 같은 모습이다. 국보 228호로 지정된 태조본 천문도는 오랜 시간의 흐름에 따른 표면 마모로 명문이나 별자리 확인이 쉽지 않다. 특히, 태조본 뒷면은 심한 훼손으로 별의 크기 뿐 아니라 대부분의 별자리 확인도 어려운 상황이다. 지금까지 천문도 표면의 훼손으로 인해 태조본의 앞 뒷면과 숙종본에 새겨진 별의 위치와 크기를 정량적으로 비교하기가 어려웠다. 본 연구에서는 숙종본 천문도의 별자리와 함께 태조본의 앞뒷면 천문도의 별의 위치 및 크기를 정량적으로 비교하기 위해 2008년과 2009년에 걸쳐 태조본 석각 천문도를 3차원 정밀 측정하였다. 천문도 측정은 삼각측량과 간섭효과를 활용한 3차원 스캐너인 Breukmann을 사용하였으며 0.1mm 이내의 측정 정밀도로 측정하였다. 3차원 정밀 측정 자료는 유물 훼손을 대비한 복원 자료구축, 복제품 제작을 위한 기초자료 그리고 별자리 연구를 위한 천문자료 등으로 활용할 수 있다. 우리는 3차원 측정을 통해 석각 천문도의 전체 형태뿐 아니라 모든 별의 위치와 크기의 측정 자료를 DB화 하였으며, 이를 이용해 태조본의 앞 뒷면과 숙종본에 새겨진 별의 위치와 크기를 비교하고 각각의 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 천문도에 새겨진 별의 크기와 실제 별의 밝기와의 상관관계를 알아보았다.

Moment-based Fast CU Size Decision Algorithm for HEVC Intra Coding (HEVC 인트라 코딩을 위한 모멘트 기반 고속 CU크기 결정 방법)

  • The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard provides superior coding efficiency by utilizing highly flexible block structure and more diverse coding modes. However, rate-distortion optimization (RDO) process for the decision of optimal block size and prediction mode requires excessive computational complexity. To alleviate the computation load, this paper proposes a new moment-based fast CU size decision algorithm for intra coding in HEVC. In the proposed method, moment values are computed in each CU block to estimate the texture complexity of the block from which the decision on an additional CU splitting procedure is performed. Unlike conventional methods which are mostly variance-based approaches, the proposed method incorporates the third-order moments of the CU block in the design of the fast CU size decision algorithm, which enables an elaborate classification of CU types and thus improves the RD-performance of the fast algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method saves 32% encoding time with 1.1% increase of BD-rate compared to HM-10.0, and 4.2% decrease of BD-rate compared to the conventional variance-based fast algorithm.
