Vibration Loads on KSR-III during Ground Transportation and Handling (KSR-III 로켓의 도로운송 및 핸들링에 의한 진동하중)

  • It is conducted to analyze vibration loads on KSR-III(KSR: Korea Sounding Rocket) and its major segments during their ground transportation and various handling process. These loads may be different from the real flight environment. Inadequate assessment of these loads can cause not only local damages on the rocket system but also the critical problem like flight mission failure. Therefore, transportation and handling loads must be considered during design and attenuated to ensure that the rocket structural damage does not occur. This work is concerned with the generation of criteria and prediction of transportation and handling loads for KSR-III. The results show that the shipping container is well designed to satisfy the design requirements. The maximum vibration level recorded during whole transportation and handling for KSR-III is less than 2g, the criteria of KSR-III movement condition.

  • As the current ground transportation system becomes saturated, there is a need to develop a roadable personal air vehicle (PAV). Therefore, researches for PAV development and operation system development are being actively carried out in various countries around the world. PAV, the next generation transportation system, is a new concept of personal transportation that combines ground transportation, air traffic, and IT industry. Also, the development of PAV can solve the saturation of traffic congestion and shorten the travel time dramatically. In this study, we analyzed the certification criteria of FAR Part 23, which is going to be revised, and analyzed the patents and folding mechanism of Terrafugia Transition and Aeromobil 3.0, which are the most advanced of roadable PAV. Also, we used $OpenVSP^{(R)}$ for the reverse configuration design of the existing Terafugia transition and Aeromobile 3.0. Aerodynamic analyses were performed for the reverse configuration design using the $XFR5^{(R)}$ program.

  • The advancement in technology including transportation and information communication has accelerated the flow of supplies, and the importance of the national logistics policy has increased following the expansion of the regional range of logistics to a national range. The rapid growth of the domestic logistics market results in the deficit of logistics facilities, inefficient operation of logistics facilities, and a complicated distribution structure. It has precipitated a plan aimed at efficiency improvement by building base logistics facilities, but this market is now undergoing difficulties due to low performance. Many studies on the revitalization of base logistics facilities have been conducted, but a causal analysis focusing on the function overlap of private logistics businesses has been absent. Therefore, this study has analyzed the function overlap of logistics facilities and the irrationality of the system, which resulted from the lost function of Inland Freight bases in the Yeongnam region. By suggesting the cause of disuse of base logistics complexes from the function overlap in the ground transportation of domestic freight, the study can provide the policy implication for the national logistics infrastructure.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the impact of unmanned aerial vehicle service and how to activate it. The discussion on the impact of the introduction of the unmanned aerial vehicle service was examined in terms of economic, environmental, and social acceptance, and a plan to revitalize the industry was presented. In terms of economic impact, if transportation services are increased using unmanned aerial vehicles in the future, road-based transportation cargo may decrease and road movement speed may increase due to reduced road congestion. This can have a positive effect on the increase in the value of land or real estate assets, and it also provides an impact on smart city design. In terms of environmental impact, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) generally move through electricity, so they emit less exhaust gas compared to other existing devices, such as vehicles and railroads, and thus have less environmental impact. However, noise can have a negative impact on the habitat in the presence of wild animals along their migration routes. In terms of social acceptability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) technology, areas that are declining due to the emergence of new services may appear, and at the same time, organizations that create profits may appear, causing conflicts between industries. Therefore, it is essential to form a social consensus on the acceptance of emerging industries. The government should come up with various countermeasures to minimize the negative impact that reflects the characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle use service. Just as various systems such as road signs were introduced so that vehicles can be operated on the ground to secure air routes in the mid- to long-term for revitalization of unmanned-based industries, development and establishment of services that should be introduced and applied prior to constructing air routes I need this. In addition, the design and implementation of information collection and operation plans for unmanned air traffic management in Korea and a plan to secure a control system for each region should also be made. This study can contribute to providing ideas for mid- to long-term research on new areas with the development of the unmanned aerial vehicle industry.

Analysis and Implication on the International Regulations related to Unmanned Aircraft -with emphasis on ICAO, U.S.A., Germany, Australia- (세계 무인항공기 운용 관련 규제 분석과 시사점 - ICAO, 미국, 독일, 호주를 중심으로 -)

  • In regard to the regulations related to the RPA(Remotely Piloted Aircraft), which is sometimes called in other countries as UA(Unmanned Aircraft), ICAO stipulates the regulations in the 'RPAS manual (2015)' in detail based on the 'Chicago Convention' in 1944, and enacts provisions for the Rules of UAS or RPAS. Other contries stipulates them such as the Federal Airline Rules (14 CFR), Public Law (112-95) in the United States, the Air Transport Act, Air Transport Order, Air Transport Authorization Order (through revision in "Regulations to operating Rules on unmanned aerial System") based on EASA Regulation (EC) No.216/2008 in the case of unmanned aircaft under 150kg in Germany, and Civil Aviation Act (CAA 1998), Civil Aviation Act 101 (CASR Part 101) in Australia. Commonly, these laws exclude the model aircraft for leisure purpose and require pilots on the ground, not onboard aricraft, capable of controlling RPA. The laws also require that all managements necessary to operate RPA and pilots safely and efficiently under the structure of the unmanned aircraft system within the scope of the regulations. Each country classifies the RPA as an aircraft less than 25kg. Australia and Germany further break down the RPA at a lower weight. ICAO stipulates all general aviation operations, including commercial operation, in accordance with Annex 6 of the Chicago Convention, and it also applies to RPAs operations. However, passenger transportation using RPAs is excluded. If the operational scope of the RPAs includes the airspace of another country, the special permission of the relevant country shall be required 7 days before the flight date with detail flight plan submitted. In accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 107 in the United States, a small non-leisure RPA may be operated within line-of-sight of a responsible navigator or observer during the day in the speed range up to 161 km/hr (87 knots) and to the height up to 122 m (400 ft) from surface or water. RPA must yield flight path to other aircraft, and is prohibited to load dangerous materials or to operate more than two RPAs at the same time. In Germany, the regulations on UAS except for leisure and sports provide duty to avoidance of airborne collisions and other provisions related to ground safety and individual privacy. Although commercial UAS of 5 kg or less can be freely operated without approval by relaxing the existing regulatory requirements, all the UAS regardless of the weight must be operated below an altitude of 100 meters with continuous monitoring and pilot control. Australia was the first country to regulate unmanned aircraft in 2001, and its regulations have impacts on the unmanned aircraft laws of ICAO, FAA, and EASA. In order to improve the utiliity of unmanned aircraft which is considered to be low risk, the regulation conditions were relaxed through the revision in 2016 by adding the concept "Excluded RPA". In the case of excluded RPA, it can be operated without special permission even for commercial purpose. Furthermore, disscussions on a new standard manual is being conducted for further flexibility of the current regulations.
