A Numerical Study on the Effects of Buildings and Topography on the Spatial Distributions of Air Pollutants in a Building-Congested District (건물 밀집 지역에서 대기오염물질 분포에 미치는 건물과 지형의 영향에 관한 수치 연구)

  • Using a computationalfluid dynamics(CFD) model, thisstudy evaluated the representativeness of an air quality monitoring system (AQMS) in an urban area and presented a methodology to determine the suitable AQMS locations for specific purposes. For this, we selected a 1.6 km × 1.6 km area around the Eunpyeong-gu AQMS (AQMS 111181) as a target area. We conducted simulationsfor two emission scenarios (scenario one: air pollutants transported from inflow boundaries, scenario two: air pollutants emitted from roads). Urban airflows were markedly influenced by mountainous terrain located in the northeast and southeast of the target area, and complicated airflow patterns occurred around the buildings. The distributions of air pollutants were dependent on the terrain (mountain) in scenario one, but the road location and building height in scenario 2. We evaluated whether the AQMS could represent the air quality in the target area based on the simulations for two scenarios. The concentrations simulated at the AQMS were similar in magnitude to the layer mean concentrations, which indicated good representativeness for the air quality in the target area. We also suggested which locations were suitable for different measurement purposes (hot spots, clean zones, average zones, shelter zones, equi-background zones).

  • Due to its excessive $CO_2$ emissions, road transport sector becomes a target for emission reduction strategies. Although precise and reliable emissions inventories are necessary for evaluating plans and strategies, developing the region-wide inventory is a difficult task mainly because of a lack of data including travel patterns and modal volumes in the reginonal context. Most existing inventory methodologies employ fuel sale data within the target region, which ignores actual regional traffic patterns and thus not suited to its geographical context. To overcome these problems, this study develops region-wide $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology by utilizing the Korea Transport DB (KTDB). KTDB provides a number of useful information and data, such as road network with which one can identify in and out trips over the entire region, traffic volumes of various modes, distance of travel, travel speed and so on. A model of equations that allow the computation of volume of $CO_2$ emitting from the road transport activities within the target region is developed. Using the model, numerical analyses are performed for the case of Busan Metropolitan City to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model. This study is indeed exploratory in the sense that using the existing data, it develops the $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology which can produce better results than those from conventional fuel sales methodology. This study also suggests further reresarch directions to develop more refined methodologies in region-wide basis.

  • Currently, when the military performs military operations in wartime and peace time, it is important for him to obtain repeatedly updated traffic information for security of the military supply support. The purpose of this study is to present an acquisition way of the repeatedly updated traffic information which the military is available. To achieve this Purpose, firstly, this paper finded types of traffic information which the military demanded and limitations caused by an connection of traffic information network between the military and associated government agencies. Also. grasped ITS(Intelligent Transportation systems) equipment operation by associated government agencies (Ministry Construction & Transportation, Korea Highway Corporation, Seoul Metropolitan Government, National Police Agency, Korea Institute of Construction Technology) and connection situations of traffic information network among associated government agencies. On the basis of these materials, this study presented the most efficient connection method in the field of the space and the contents of traffic information between the military and associated government agencies and ITS connection system between the military and associated government agencies was contrived. Throughout the upper processes, this paper showed a method which is available for acquiring ITS traffic information of associated government agencies. In addition to the connection method of ITS traffic information network, resolutions for the problems caused by connection of ITS network were come up with. But the more deep study for this matter is needed since resolutions for the problems of the ITS network connection, which this paper presented, were very restricted.

  • Recently, much literature has surveyed the economic effects of transportation investment, focusing on the relationship between transportation infrastructure investment and economic development. Although the conventional views assume that transportation investment stimulates economic growth, the results of recent studies are not conclusive and in some cases reject the conventional views. The contradictory results are linked with double counting Problem and Keynesian/Neo-classical economics theory. This article investigates the economic effects of road transportation with regard to freight transport using Stated Preference technique. This study examines, in particular, the value of time saving for freight which has been rarely studied in this area. In the first part, the value of time saving, excluding the value for driver and operating cost, is theoretically investigated through the model of continuous review system and periodic review system. At last, the empirical study using the Seated Preference technique shows the value of time saving for freight and the value of reliability, compared with other studies and the value of those in COBA. The result makes us conclude that road investment produces the secondary effects as well as the direct benefit such as time saving for passengers, operating cost saving. and accident cost reduction. The secondary effect includes the contribution to economic development.

Estimation of Korea Transportation Service Index and Business Cycle Analysis (국내 교통산업 서비스 지수의 산정 및 경기순환분석)

  • The objective of this study is to estimate Korean transportation service index (KTSI), and to explore possible uses of the KTSI. The KTSI was monthly index to represent the level of passenger and freight services by road, railroad, air and maritime modes, which was developed from eight series. Four of these series measure the level of passenger services (passenger-kilometers) by road, railroad. air and maritime modes : monthly data from January 1995 to December 2004. Similarly. the remaining four series measure the level or freight activity (tonnage) by four modes during the same period. Given the weights of modal revenues, component series were aggregated into two indexes (passenger index and freight index) and a composite index using Chained Fisher Ideal index. which was a geometric mean of the Laspeyres index and the Passche index. The Fisher Ideal index is one of the 'superlative' indexes, which diminish 'substitution bias' as current-weighted indexes. As a result, the freight index and the composite index explain economic conditions better than the passenger index. Based on the composite index. the newly estimated KTSI shows an average lag time of one and a half years at peaks and three months at troughs in comparison with domestic business cycles. Nonetheless. the following efforts are needed for more credible and useful estimates; establishment of data collection scheme in time. credibility uplift of used data, development of various indexation methods.

  • 도심 도로변의 대기질은 주변의 고층 건물로 인한 거리 협곡으로 인하여 도시의 대기질에서 가장 빈번하게 기준을 초과하는 지역이다. 대부분의 대도시에서 고층 빌딩으로 구성된 도심 거리 협곡(urban street canyon)의 자동차에서 배출되는 대기오염물질은 운전자, 보행자, 도로변 작업자, 자동차 승객 등의 건강에 직접적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 자동차 대기오염물질은 지표면에서 발생되기 때문에 거리 협곡은 배출원 인근의 대기오염물질 확산에 중요한 영향을 준다. 우선적으로, 거리 협곡은 협곡 상공에서 수직적인 혼합을 유도하게 된다. 둘째로, 거리 협곡의 형성은 협곡의 지형적 또는 물리적 경계 내의 오염물질을 정체시키게 되어, 협곡 상공으로 공기가 자유롭게 이동하여 오염물질을 수송하는 것을 지체시키는 경향이 있다.   • 운송 중에 발생되는 진동, 충격이 전기기기에 미치는 영향을 검증하기 위해 측정자료를 바탕으로 실험실에서 보리 실험한 수 있는 실험기준을 설정할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 측정절차를 수립하고 발생요인에 따른 실측자료를 확보하기 위해 진동과 충격을 측정하는 시스템을 개발하였다. 측정결과 운송 도로면의 요철조건, 운송차종(중량), 운송속도에 따라 측정값에 차이가 있었다. 세부적으로 콘크리트 도로, 고속 주행일 때, 파워스펙트럼밀도(PSD) 값이 큰 것으로 분석되었고, 충격가속도는 소형 트럭이 가장 큰 값으로 분석되었다. 또한 측정자료를 바탕으로 랜덤진동시험기준을 제시하였다.

  • 도로는 국가경제 발전의 근간이 되는 사회간접자본시설 중 하나로 국내 물류수송부문의 약 70%이상을 분담하는 국가교통망의 중추적인 역할을 수행하는 핵심적인 국가기반시설이다. 특히 국도건설사업은 교통애로구간 해소로 물류비용 절감 및 산업경쟁력을 제고하며, 낙후지역의 도로망 확충으로 국토의 균형개발을 촉진함에 따라, 국토부 전체 예산에서 국도건설사업이 차지하는 비중이 매우 높은 수준이다. 하지만, 국도건설사업이 국토의 균형발전 및 전체 사회간접자본(SOC) 예산에서 차지하는 비중이 높은 반면, 국도노선에 대한 종합적인 정보 제공은 극히 낮은 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 일반국도 현황 및 국도건설사업 추진 현황을 살펴보고, 국도노선에 관한 종합적인 정보서비스를 위해 주요 정보의 제공 방안을 마련하고자 한다. 이를 통해 국도노선에 관한 종합적인 정보서비스 체계 구축을 위한 방안을 제시하고자 한다.
