Development of Metadata Elements for Intensive Web Archiving (선택적 웹 아카이빙을 위한 메타데이터 요소 개발)

  • As digital preservation becomes increasingly important, interest in web archiving has correspondingly increased. The processes of web archiving depend on the types of acquisition methods employed, the organization and storage of data, their completeness, and their scope. This study develops metadata for intensive web archiving. Several web archiving projects are reviewed and analyzed. As a result, administrative metadata has been suggested in addition to the basic elements from the Dublin Core.

  • This study is to develope the structures and the elements of the metadata for harvesting, management and preservation of a valuable web resources in the web archiving. For this study, we investigated the available metadata in the web archiving and surveyed the requirements of web archiving process. And we analyzed the characteristics of web resources. Also, this study was used a based on the ISO 14721 OAIS Reference Model. Finally, to share the metadata elements among the web archiving system, this study considered the interoperability for the exchange of the metadata. Based on the result, this study designed four structures of the metadata and defined the 28 core metadata elements for the web archiving.

A Study on the Metadata Elements for Establishing e-Learning Content Archives (이러닝 콘텐츠 아카이빙 구축을 위한 메타데이터 요소에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, our purpose was to develop the metadata elements for archiving e-learning content being generated by universities. In order to achieve this goal, we first examined the current status of e-learning content providing services both domestically and overseas and then compared each standard for metadata for e-learning content built for educational purposes. We found that KEM (Korea Education Metadata) 3.0, a server being provided by KOCW (Korea Open CourseWare), does not currently accommodate the metadata elements for archiving. In this study, we extended and added the scope of metadata elements for archiving based on KEM 3.0. We also tried to build up metadata for archiving the e-learning content provided based on KEM 3.0+. As a result of this study, a basis for archiving elLearning content is expected to be founded.

  • 디지털 시대에 들어서면서 폭발적으로 증가하는 정보를 효율적으로 유지, 보관, 이용하기 위해 디지털 아카이빙의 필요성이 제기되었다. 현재 아카이브의 표준으로는 OAIS(Open Archival Information System)이 있지만 주로 포괄적인 컨텐츠를 대상으로 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이미지 자료를 대상으로 한 디지털 아카이빙과 메타데이터를 설계하고자 한다. 이미지 자료의 효율적인 디지털 아카이빙 구축을 위해서 참조 모형을 통해 서지정보와 멀티미디어 자료에 대한 메타데이터 표준이 추가되어야 한다. 구체적인 방안으로 클래스 기반 다단계 메타데이터 모델 관리를 제안한다.

Construction of Preservation Metadata Package for Digital Archiving (디지털 아카이빙을 위한 보존 메타데이터 패키지 구축)

  • The construction of preservation metadata is a prerequisite for the preservation of digital information. In the current approaches to digital archiving, however, there is no metadata structure optimized to describe preserved digital objects. This research proposed metadata packages that can support the description of digital objects from the perspective of the core processes of digital archiving. The proposed metadata packages consist of 4 wrapper elements and 25 sub-elements. They can provide detailed descriptions required to preserve digital objects in accordance with the core processes of digital archiving. Therefore, the proposed metadata package can be applied to digital archiving as a better approach to the description of digital objects compared to the approaches to information package.

  • This study aims to present a model of digital archiving based on E-ARK. It analyzed the international standards and technological specifications designed for digital archiving. The analysis employed in study explored the common specifications including core processes, information packages, and metadata structure needed for digital archiving. Based on the analysis and reviews, this study developed a model for digital archiving, in order to achieve interoperability of information packages throughout the process.

  • Electronic record types are becoming diverse, and "composite electronic records," which are made up of various types of electronic records associated with functionality or user interaction that does not exist in current electronic document formats, are increasing. To ensure a continuous access to composite electronic records, metadata construction is a prerequisite for electronic records archiving. In this paper, we propose a metadata that can support archiving of composite electronic records associated with interactive functionality. The common elements were derived from an analysis of both domestic and international file format registry projects, and metadata elements related to functional requirements were identified from the analysis of the records on nursing education e-learning contents. We proposed the metadata elements for archiving composite electronic records, which consist of 25 high-level elements and 138 subelements.

  • Although the important information are significantly increasing in the Web, it is easily disappeared because of the Web's characteristics. The purpose of this paper is researching and developing of base technology for archiving web records. First developing about the workflow which is the procedure of web archiving, and developing about metadata elements, the essential condition of preserving web records and accessing archived resources. Finally developing the architecture defined the overall items of web records archiving.

An Index Splitting Technique for Numerous Sensor Data Archiving (대용량 센서 데이터 아카이빙을 위한 색인 분할 기법)

  • Sensor data have the characteristics such as numerous and continuous data. Therefore, it is required to develop an index which could retrieve a specific sensor data efficiently from numerous sensed data. The index should have an efficient delete operation for the past data to support the data archiving. In this paper, we have proposed and implemented an index splitting technique to support the sensor data archiving. These splitted indexes compose of a virtual index (that is, index management component), which is shown as single tree from outside. Experimental results show that in the case of 100,000 insert operations the splitted index performs 8% better than the traditional TB-tree maximumly. And the splitted index outperforms TB-tree with retrieving queries when the region of query is small and the size of time domain is large.

  • This study designed a suitable preservation metadata for archives of Korean traditional arts. To accomplish this task, we consulted OAIS reference model and PREMIS data dictionary, analyzed various preservation metadata. and surveyed resource characteristics of Korean traditional arts. We adopted elements with namespaces, honored original definitions and scopes by not violating principles of designing application profiles, and extended elements where necessary.
