Improving Construction Operations Through Applications of 6 Sigma Management Techniques for Superstore Projects (6시그마 기법의 적용을 통한 대형 할인점 공사의 시공성과 향상)

  • In order to improve the performance of succeeding superstore construction projects, it is essential to find out an effective way for applying the opportunities of improvement on their repetitive construction process based upon the analysis of various success or failure cases occurred on previous similar projects. This research study suggests a way to improve their construction process through the applications of six sigma techniques on superstore construction projects. A literature review was implemented on the basic concept of six sigma and its general performance steps, and the step by step applications of six sigma techniques were accomplished regarding to the speciality of superstore construction projects. The opportunities of improvement for superstore projects were figured out, and the result of their applications on other superstore projects was analyzed. As a result, it was found that the adoption rate of identical success or failure cases was increased. Also, there were several improvement effects on the projects such as $10{\sim}20$ days of time savings by projects, decrease of reworks by preventing failure cases, quality and safety improvement. These results indicate that the six sigma techniques are applicable and valuable for improving the repetitive process of superstore construction projects.

  • In 2006, the share of fisheries distribution in Busan amounted to 1.9 million ton, which was 41 percent of the whole country. In details, coastal fishery 334 thousand ton(14% of the whole country), deep sea fishery 452 thousand ton(82%), import fishery 964 thousand ton(70%), export fishery 157 thousand ton(43%) were distributed in Busan region, respectively. Recently, the share of fisheries sale through e-commerce is increasing owing to the growth of IT and competitive price of its products. and the sale share of large discount store is also on the 10% more increase owing to the effectiveness of distribution structure. Hereafter these structure changes of fisheries distribution in Busan will be more intensified. Therefore, after reflecting the change in distribution policy of Busan Fisheries, the directions of distribution policy should be established, as follows.   • Recently, in the process of distribution industry's growth, distribution environment is changing rapidly by appearance of new business condition and strategy of multiple store. According to the intensification of competition, recently large discount stores are developing private brand(PB) products for the purpose of product differentiation and profitability. But after the economic crisis in 1997, young housewives and salaried man's that have rational and practical buying pattern become the core consumer's in the large discount stores. Hence low price strategy is not new things for the consumer's anymore. In addition to, acquiring new consumer, many discount stores are establishing new stores at the rural area. But they undergo hardships of establishing new stores at the rural area because of disparity consumer's behavior, income level and consumption's pattern among regions. So, when they try to establish new stores, they need to know consumer's behavior at the region. Therefore the purpose of this study is to analyze preference property for the private brand(PB) of large discount stores in Gyeonggi-Do.

  • This study was tried for revitalization of the traditional markets, at which were located the same business district of grand supermarket of an urban area in Seoul. The Myung-Il Market, one of traditional markets near the Gang-Dong Homeplus was selected for this research. In our research including the survey from the 63 purchasers' samples of Myung-Il traditional Market, the policy to strengthen the traditional market's ability was suggested to use the price and hygiene factors which affecting on the customers' satisfaction significantly. And the other complementary stategic factors, service and geographical area factors, were induced which were significantly relating to the 100 samples of purchasers at Gang-Dong Homeplus as the grand modern market. Therefore this research suggests the maintaining and enhancement strategy related to price and the hygiene factors should be impressed on the preferential basis for revitalization the traditional markets. And the other strategy which including service and geographical area factors as from the grand modern market's survey result will be considerated complementarily.

  • The purpose of this study using Fuzzy AHP technique as a decision support system is to propose a structured and available decision making process for location selection of large-scale discount stores. The procedure of this study is divided into two parts to estimate the relative weights of evaluation criteria and analyze the sites of some large discount stores. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, compared with the other criteria, the population of primary trade area has the most weight, and moreover, there are the number of rival businesses, dimensions of roads, total population, lot size, purchase cost in order of size. Lastly, the sites of six stores are evaluated relatively, then the optimal location is selected, which proves the applicability for decision making process this study suggests.

  • This study conducted parking demand-supply analysis of 13 big discount stores' in Busan using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Based on the analysis, we reexamined the parking requirements in discount stores and suggested effective use plan of established parking lots. We found that all big discount stores in the study had more parking spaces than actual parking demands. Also, there are differences of parking occupancy rate by their location types. Third, even if the minimum standard for parking provision in the stores is reduced by up to 20%, they would be adequate to respond current parking demands. Thus, we suggest to consider different parking standards depending on location types. Finally, in order to utilize surplus parking spaces, this study suggests to examine whether parking with various purposes besides shopping is permitted or not.

An Investigation of Microbial Contamination of Side Dishes sold at Traditional Market and Super Market in Ulsan (울산지역 재래시장 및 대형 할인점 유통 반찬류의 미생물 오염도 조사)

  • This study was investigated to determine the contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria, coliform group, $E.$ $coli$ and food-borne pathogens of side dishes from 2 traditional markets (100 samples) and 2 super markets (100 samples) located on Ulsan. The levels (range) of total aerobic bacteria was 4.75 log CFU/g (1.60~6.92 log CFU/g) in traditional market and 4.62 log CFU/g (2.00~6.46 log CFU/g) in super market, respectively. Coliform was detected in 64 and 66 samples sold at traditional markets and super markets, respectively. $E.$ $coli$ was detected in 4 and 6 samples sold at traditional markets and super markets, respectively. The food-borne pathogens, namely $Bacillus$ $cereus$ and $Listeria$ $monocytogenes$ were detected in 1 sample sold at traditional markets, respectively, and $Bacillus$ $cereus$ was detected in 4 samples sold at super markets. However, other pathogens such as $Salmonella$ spp., $Shigella$ spp., $Vibrio$ $parahaemolyticus$, $Yersinia$ $enterocolitica$, $Clostridium$ $perfringens$, $Camphylobacter$ $jejuni$ and Pathogenic $E.$ $coli$ were not detected. The $Saengchae$ and $Seasoned$ $Jeotgal$ were relatively vulnerable compared to the others in the food-borne pathogens.

  • For the large scale retailers such as chain discount stores and specialty stores, having measurement tool to maintain service quality can be very crucial to sustain high and same level of service qualities around multiple stores. This study aims to develop service quality scales of large-scale stores using Korean discount store cases. We have studied the previous service quality measures including RSQS(Retail Service Quality Scale) and have modified and developed our own scale model called KD-SQS(Korea Discount Service Quality Scale). The following six components have been revealed as the basic dimensions of service quality of Korean discount stores: basic benefits, promotion, personal interactions, physical aspects, policy and additional convenience. Our scales have been verified through various validity and reliability tests.
