  • Tracheal mite (Acarapis woodi) is an internal parasite that is parasitic on the bronchus of adult bees and sucks fluid from the trachea. Since its first report by Rennie, it has been spread throughout Europe and in some Asian regions, with adjacent Japan and China reported in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Korea detected specific genes of A. woodi in 2015, but only one of 99 samples has been identified and the being of A. woodi has not been confirmed. In this study, we established a specific nested PCR method to confirm for detecting low-copy number of A. woodi-specific gene in bee samples. As a result, A. woodi-specific COI gene was amplified in 15 of 23 samples, and they were judged positive by melting point analysis and sequencing analysis. Although we could not observe the existence of the mites in bees, our results suggest that tracheal mit might exist in nature.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate factors influencing subjective happiness index of health behavior, self esteem and major satisfaction by nursing students. Findings revealed that; 1) Pearson's correlation revealed a significant association among health behavior, self esteem, major satisfaction and happiness index ; 2) hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed self esteem and major satisfaction significantly influenced happiness index in nursing students. These findings can be utilized to development of strategies for increasing happiness index of nursing students.

  • This study is aimed at analyzing the characteristics of adaptation to college life among freshmen of D University by utilizing the DEU-GRIT test. To achieve this, we examined differences in level of college life adaptation according to gender and major, and explored the characteristics of college life adaptation among college freshmen who were clustered based on their level of academic, social, emotional, and career adaptation, which is an important factor in adaptation to college life. Moreover, based on the DEU-GRIT test standards, we also explored the characteristics of their college life adaptation by sorting out low level groups of freshmen with difficulties adapting. The results demonstrated that male students had a higher level of emotional adaptation than female students, and that science and technology majors had higher levels of academic and emotional adaptation than students in the humanities and society majors. Furthermore, a cluster analysis based on 4 factor levels of college life adaptation showed that cluster 1 had a high level of adaptability to all factors, but cluster 3 had a low level of adaptability to all factors. Moreover, while cluster 2 showed a high level of emotional adaptation, cluster 4 showed a low level of emotional adaptation. On the other hand, a lower-standard group of DEU-GRIT tests showed that the level of academic adaptation and social adaptation was higher among female students than among male students. However, the overall level of college life, academic, and emotional adaptation were higher among science and technology students than among those majoring in humanities and social studies. In addition, a cluster analysis based on the level of 4 factors of college life adaptation of lower-standard groups showed that cluster 1 of the lower-standard groups had a high level of emotional adaptation, while cluster 2 of the lower-standard groups had a low level of emotional and career adaptation and a high level of academic and social adaptation. Also, cluster 3 of the lower-standard groups was found to have low levels of all factors, and cluster 4 of the lower-standard groups showed low levels of social and emotional adaptation and high levels of academic and career adaptation. This indicates that, in terms of social and emotional adaptation among freshmen, participation in psychological counseling programs tailored according to gender is necessary and, regarding the major, relative emotional intervention is required due to the high and low expectations of job prospects. In conclusion, the emotional and social adaptation to college life among the lower-level groups is likely to serve as a protective factor for college life adaptation, suggesting that specific intervention should be contemplated.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between volunteer activities and emotional intelligence on the major satisfaction level of nursing college students. This study was a descriptive research design to investigate 252 nursing college students in a university. The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using dummy variables. As a result of the study, 71.8% of the students had experienced volunteer activities. The average level of emotional intelligence of all participants was 4.84 points out of 7, and the major satisfaction level was 3.87 points out of 5 points, each of them was above middle level. The correlations among the attitude of volunteer activity, emotional intelligence, and major satisfaction were statistically significant. The attitude of volunteer activity and emotional intelligence (r=0.329), the attitude of volunteer activity and major satisfaction (r=0.271), emotional intelligence and major satisfaction(r=0.525) showed a statistically significant difference at the significance level of 0.01. There were grade, university life satisfaction, and emotional intelligence as factors affecting major satisfaction, and the explanatory power of these factors was 41.6%. In order to improve the major satisfaction level of nursing students based on the results of this study, it was confirmed that various strategies are needed to improve university life satisfaction and emotional intelligence.

Date were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS 18.0. A negative correlation was found between major satisfaction and depression, positive correlation was found between employment stress and depression. The predicting factors for depression were major satisfaction and employment stress. Those factors accounted for 26.0% of depression. The fallow-up survey about various factors influencing college student's depression is needed and prevent depression program for developing depression are controled.

  • In this study, we surveyed the students enrolled in the dental hygiene program to identify how academic self-efficacy and subjective happiness affect academic resilience and, therefore, to help in guidance and adaptation to college life for dental hygiene students. We conducted the self-administered survey by randomized inclusion of dental hygiene students from Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province. A total of 175 students were finally analyzed. The study result showed that subjective happiness and academic self-efficacy were the factors that affected academic resilience and explanatory power accounting for 25.6%. This study has provided a foundational basis for the development of programs to enhance students' adaptation to college life by providing guidance for dental hygiene students and suggesting factors related to adaptation to college life.
