  • The purpose of the university library's reading room is to provide a space for reading books. However, with the recent increase in use as a personal learning space, discussions have been made on spaces in university libraries. The ultimate goal of this study is to analyze the utilization status of reading rooms in university libraries that exist to support students' learning activities, and then to derive preference factors according to spatial characteristics of each room. For this purpose, we selected "J" University as a research target. The log data was collected and analyzed for one year from various reading rooms in "J" University. Based on 218,939 cases generated from 40,753 users, usage patterns were analyzed according to period and space. Through the analysis results, preference factors for reading room were derived. In addition, the considerations for improving space utilization were proposed. The results of the study can be used in the future to improve space arrangement and space utilization in reading rooms of university libraries.

  • The purpose of this study is to longitudinally analyze impact factors on library use. One of library use indicators, the number of circulated books was statistically analyzed with latent growth model and growth mixture model. Library data from 2014 to 2019 were collected from the National Library Statistics System, and 846 public libraries were analyzed. As results, the number of circulated books were decreased, but it was tempered. Next, with controlling the factor affecting the dependent variable, the size of collection and the number of participants in reading programs provided by public libraries were statistically significant. Lastly, 5 classes were identified by applying the growth mixture model, and the number of librarians was significantly associated with trajectory class membership.

The methodology of this study applied the multiple regression analysis and the component ratio of professional staff versus nonprofessional staff. The results of this study are swrunarized as follows: (1) Number of librarians = 3.016 + 0.0l6xholdings(unit : 1000 vols) - 0.008volumesadded(unit : 100 vols) + 0.031 x graduate enrollments(unit : 10 persons) + 0.069 x undergraduate enrollments(unit : 100 persons) + 0.043 x library materials expenditure(unite: 10 million won). (2) Number of library staff = 4.638 + 0.024 x holdings(unit : 1000 vols) - 0.012 x volumes added(unit: 100 vols) + 0.017 x graduate enrollments(unit : 10 persons) + 0.106 x undergraduate enrollments(unit : 100 persons)+0.066xlibrary materials expenditure(unit : 10 million won).

  • This study aimed to investigate the transition of academic libraries' jobs by developing a model based on a shift of library generations including Library 1.0, Library 2.0, and Library 3.0 corresponding to the shift of web generations and to explore generational characteristics of library duties as well. The research used three phases of procedure: literature review about different library generations; job analyses for academic libraries in South Korea and the U.S.A.; the Delphi technique in tree sequential order. The research findings were as follows. First of all, there were 170 duties that continued from Library 1.0 to Library 3.0. There were 58 duties which continued from Library 2.0 to Library 3.0 whereas three duties that continued from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. In addition, three distinctive duties existed only in Library 1.0 whereas one unique duty was only in Library 2.0. Library 3.0 generated 25 new duties. Secondly, considering general characteristics which cover specific parts of individual duties, there was a significant increase in importance, difficulty, and frequency of library administration throughout the three generations. In terms of importance, difficulty, and frequency of collection development and management, there was a significant increase only from Library 2.0 to Library 3.0. Considering information organization, there was a significant decrease in importance from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. In addition, there was a significant decrease in frequency and there was no significant difference in difficulty throughout the three generations. In the case of information service, while there was a significant increase in importance among three generations, there was a significant increase in difficulty only from Library 1.0 to Library 2.0. However, there was no generational difference in frequency. With the respect of information system development and management, there was a significant increase in importance and frequency throughout the three generations, but there was no significant difference in difficulty among three generations.

  • Yeogkwa Bo is a biographical source that was re-edited based on the primary sources such as Yeogkwa Bangmok which is the list of the successful applicants in Yeogkwa. 7 Kinds of the existing Yeogkwa Bo was studied and analyzed in bibliographical way. This study proves that the period of available record(of successful applicants' names) ranges from 1807 to 1891, although it has been mentioned before that the period of record covers as far as 1882. As a result of comparison of mentioned family names, family origins, total number of the successful applicants in Yeogkwa, and content of record, Yeog Bo of Dangrih University's shows the most extensive and substantial work, and Yeogkwa Bo of Jangseo Kag's is quite superior to other archives present at home. But both of them show problems such as errors or omission of some records, confusion in spelling and so on. Therefore, the above study implies that there should be process of checking through study of Yeogkwa Bangmok when making reference to Yeogkwa Bo which provides biographical information on family trees and origins as well as information on the individual successful applicants in Yeogkwa.

  • Book numbers can be defined as the device for providing a unique self location for each book. They should include main entry which consists of author, title, the date of publication. Now, the university libraries are using eleven different methods on book numbers, in other words, nine eastern methods and two western methods. The aim of this study is to investigate problems that the present book number system has and some concerns that should be taken into account in case of the modification of the book number system and change into a new one. This study is based on the survey in that the librarian gave to 110 university libraries throughout the nation. As a result, the survey indicates that the crucial concerns of the participathing libraries are ineffective book management and the duplication of book numbers. In addition, the survey indicates that the priorities of the libraries is removing duplicated numbers, adhering to the current system, and keeping the same book arrangement system. Therefore, this study suggests the components for the expansion of the book number system and the necessity of standardization of diverse book numbers.
