Since the recent financial crisis in universities has caused the decrease of academic library budget, the resource sharing has been considered by utilizing inter-library loan (ILL) data for solving the financial deficit. This study aims to identify the collection profiles of western monographs' ILL data among 4-year academic libraries. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, this study analyzes ILL data from 2011 to 2017 using the bibliographic data and ILL transactions of the KERIS union catalog. The findings of the study show that the western monographs was significantly provided by large-scale academic libraries in 2011, however, the extent of major regions expanded, and the number of influential institutions rose in 2016. Second, in 2012, the influence in the ILL network increased in the quantity of western monographs holdings and the proportion of common collections. On the other hand, in 2016, it was also shown that the influence in terms of provision in the ILL network increased in the proportion of unique collections. Lastly, the ILL participating academic libraries were classified into six clusters by a hierarchical clustering analysis of holdings and ILL indexes.

The purpose of this study is to propose a personalized book recommendation system to promote the use of university libraries. In particular, unlike many recommended services that are based on existing users' preferences, this study proposes a method that derive evaluation metrics using individual users' book rental history and tendencies, which can be an effective alternative when users' preferences are not available. This study suggests models using two matrix decomposition methods: Singular Value Decomposition(SVD) and Stochastic Gradient Descent(SGD) that recommend books to users in a way that yields an expected preference score for books that have not yet been read by them. In addition, the model was implemented using a user-based collaborative filtering algorithm by referring to book rental history of other users that have high similarities with the target user. Finally, user evaluation was conducted for the three models using the derived evaluation metrics. Each of the three models recommended five books to users who can either accept or reject the recommendations as the way to evaluate the models.

The study aims to develop a mobile library model for universities that can be adapted to offer suitable library information and services to smart phone users. To do this, we conducted a case study using four foreign and domestic mobile libraries as well as a user study with 212 participants and questionnaires. In addition, we also administered a survey with 160 librarians. Based on the results of case and user/librarian studies, we proposed a mobile library model in which an access and navigation methods are described and nine key information and services including catalog search, code reader and SNS services are proposed.

This study was intended to investigate the quality control in technical services outsourcing in academic libraries. For this purpose, investigated related papers and the experience of outsourced technical services in three academic libraries. Data from senior librarians charged with revision of catalogs are gathered. Issues of catalogs production and quality control are explored and statistics of outsourcing is analysed. Quality control is a major factor of the success of technical services outsourcing operation. The some suggestions in order to enhance quality of vendor-supplied cataloging are presented.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the of multimedia university library system theoretical models and to design partial functions of this model using multimedia toolbook 3.0. The theoretical model is constructed based on several operating systems such as JANUS Virtual Library and The Book House. Knowledge base of the designed system is constructed by interviewing reference librarians. The designed system consists of six modules : Reference Expert system. Journal Browsing, Multimedia Database, OPAC, External Database and User' s Guide. Finally, four problems are discussed as several major problems in building up multimedia university library network

This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry into the quality of subject data in library catalogs. On the basis of National Library Subject Headings (NLSH) developed in 2002, National Library of Korea (NLK) has input the subject data into cataloging records since 2003. However a serious question could arise regarding whether the data are appropriate and desirable as a subject of the work. Under these circumstances, this study examined as follows: First, the meanings and attributes of the 'subject' were examined with a comprehensive literature survey. Second, a experimental analysis was carried out to measure the quality of the subject data. Sample records were selected from NLK, LC and A university library in Korea, and absolute and relative quality were compared. Finally, the substantial and realistic strategies for improving the quality of subject data were discussed.

Suggested reading lists in South Korea have been developing in various aspects thanks to the general understanding of importance of reading education and an increases in the number of school libraries and children libraries. A majority of previous researches consider the suggested reading lists as selection tools. However, this paper selects 17 well-known suggested reading lists and indicates their values as important information source. In this process, the research analyses the recent trends in the 17 suggested reading lists in 10 aspects: history, retrieval methods, developing institution, type of reading lists distribution methods, subject specification, participation of librarian, bibliographic information, subject classification and grouping target reader. From analysing these aspects, the paper suggests a need of unified information from authorized and children-information-related institutions.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the development strategy of academic libraries in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada which have been established in response to the problems faced since the 1990s. Major problems, which academic libraries in various countries have commonly experienced include continuing decrease in library expenditures, changing role of libraries themselves, changing nature of library collections, development of information technology and technological intrastructure on campus, steep increase in prices of scholarly journals, and relative decrease in purchasing powers of libraries. In this study, discussed are the strategic planning and solutions carried out at the national or government level, rather than by individual libraries. Their efforts commonly focus on such measures as resource sharing, shared catalog and storage facilities, cooperative purchasing and negotiation for scholarly journals, etc.

Library and information science professionals have to grasp user's needs and make the best decisions when designing, acquiring, and managing library information systems. However, it is not easy for them to make the decision owing to the lack of an understanding of the characteristics of a specific user group in computer-based information systems in libraries. The aim of this study was to provide information on the characteristics and abilities of specific user groups such as male & female student groups, undergraduate & graduate ones, Sciences and Humanities majored ones etc. The actual OPAC systems were searched by specific student user groups in selected academic libraries in both Republic of Korea and the States for the purpose(Author, Title, and Subject search). Ouestionnaire was prepared and administered to Korean college students in the city of Taegu, Korea and adjacent area. Two hundred and seven usable questionnaires were obtained and analyzed. These were analyzed using descriptive, inferential statistics, and SPSS software. The major findings by data analysis of this study were described in chapters 4 and 5 of this paper in detail. Also, conclusions were drawn from the findings in this paper, and recommendations were proposed when designing, adopting, or managing a new system.

This study aims to analyze the current status of continuing education for academic librarians based on the records of education. For this purpose, the study investigated the academic librarian's preferences for the topics of continuing education in terms of regional and monthly differences using the 30,404 education records in university and college library statistics of Korean Education and Research Information Service (KERIS). The results shows that 'academic database system' and 'cataloging' were the most preferred topics, and there were topical differences between the academic librarians in university and college.
