A Comparative Analysis on the Living Culture of Undergraduate Students for Establishment of University Culture - Focused on the Commuting Patterns - (대학문화정착을 위한 대학생의 생활문화비교분석 -지방대학 대학생의 통학유형을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the living cultures among three types of undergraduate students, grouped by commuting patterns, attending universities in Chung-Cheong Do: a long-distance type, a short-distance type, and a living-alone type. The survey was performed with questionnaires and the subjects were 1167 undergraduate students. The results are as follows: for a long-distance type, the levels of housing environments and consumption expenditures were relatively high, but the students felt constrainted by the commuting time. For a short-distance type, the consensus in decision-making with parents and the degree of conflict reconciliation were the lowest. For a living-alone type, the levels of housing environments and consumption expenditures were relatively poorer, but the students spent relative]y more time at school and the attitudes of school and department which they belong to were relatively higher.

  • A dormitory is the most important compound space to college students who have to live with others. Also, for the students living in the boarding area, the dorm space can be the space for learning, exchanges and cultural. These Housing environment is a public space, so this is based on Universal Design. However, the 1970s-built dormitory space for the current user is narrow and not right for furniture standard. In this study, in order to compensate for these problems, the design directions are based on the previous studies - Park, Young-Soon, 2008, 'A Proposal on Dormitory Furniture Design for University Students.' Based on the previous study, the type of variable design is designed for desks, bookcases, beds, wardrobes, and other cabinets as representative household types. Furthermore, these furnitures are assembled and transformed depend on the dormitory space for single, double and four students. The furniture assembly system and arrangement module are presented in the direction of three kinds of designs. Therefore, three meaning of this study are the development of design to be used each item, the realization of custom furniture for space and presenting variable design module.

A Study on Contents of Trans Fatty Acids in Foods Served at University Dormitory and Their Consumption (대학 기숙사 식당의 식품중 Trans 지방산의 함량 및 섭취량에 관한 연구)

  • Trans fatty acids are formed during processings of oils such as refining, hydrogenation and heat treatment at high temperature. Recently, interesting on whether trans fatty acids involve in development of atherosclerosis and cancer are getting more attentions. This study was to investigate contents of trans fatty acids in food served at domitories of a women's university in Seoul and also amount of the trans fatty acids consumed by the students. Food items were divided into five groups. Their contents of the trans fatty acids were, in the order of decreasing, 12.7% for cookies and cakes, 1.23% for fried foods, 0.98% for fried and sauted animal foods, 0.74% for milk and milk products and 0.72% for fried and sauted vegetables. Amount of trans fatty acids consumed by the students was 0.63g per day per person.

  • A measure for service quality of university dormitory is developed to gain a better understanding of the quality issues that impact on students' experiences and to improve service quality. Literature survey, thorough discussion with staff members and a pilot test are utilized to elicit attributes of service quality. Factor analysis is used to group the service quality attributes into dimensions. The resulting measure is consisted of 6 dimensions; competence, attitude, facility, amenity, security and discipline. Importance-performance analysis is utilized to verify which factors to be focused on with high Priority to improve dormitory service.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the plan formation for university dormitory's living unit by the modular unit of the pre-fabricated architecture, Pursuing this, this study conducts the investigation of present domestic situation of prefabricated construction and practices plan formation for living unit concentrating on the dweller's satisfaction by solving the problems which hitherto constructed dormitory had, especially collapse of dweller's territoriality. Consequently, this study presents the feasibility of modular unit of present prefabricated construction as a new method of dormitory's living unit construction, and suggests the pertinent plan formation for the improvement of the dweller's territoriality.

Roommate assignment for effective character education within a Residential College system (Residential college에서 효과적인 인성 교육을 위한 룸메이트 배정 문제)

  • Recently, various universities in Korea have started to work on strengthening their liberal arts and character education through the residential college (RC) system, carrying out various community programs for this purpose. However, because most programs are based on student-to-student relationships, problems can often arise within the community living environments. This paper proposes the roommate assignment algorithm in the context of a residential college, as to effectively achieve character education goals. The clustering algorithm we propose is based on the similarity hypothesis. As a result of the assignment, the degree of similarity (euclidean distance) between roommates was significantly higher than that assigned randomly. The algorithm developed in this study was applied to the data of the students living in the international campus of H University.

  • 우리 몸에서 가장 중요한 것은 얼굴과 두 눈이고, 아름다움도 얼굴에서 나온다. 세상에서 가장 아름다운 여인으로 서양에서는 클레오파트라(Cleopatra)이고, 동양은 양귀비(楊貴妃, 719~756)를 대표적 예로 든다. 미국 캘리포니아 대학의 Zadeh 교수는 강의 시 휴식시간에 '어느 교수의 부인이 아름다운가?' 라는 농담을 하면서 제일 예쁜 여자는 A그룹, 그 다음은 B 그룹 등으로 구분하는데 착안하여 Fuzzy 개념을 발견(1965)하였고, 그 후 연구계 및 산업체에서 이 이론을 확장해 퍼지세탁기, 퍼지냉장고 등이 가전 시장을 석권한 바 있다. 한편, 2004년 미국 하버드대 기숙사에서 친구와 함께 재미삼아 페이스북을 만든 마크 저커버그(28). 여자친구의 사생활을 여기에 올려 이별의 아픔을 맛보기도 했던 그가 8년 만에 세계적 282억 달러의 부호가 됐다. 세계 인터넷업계가 가슴을 졸이며 기다려온 페이스북의 기업공개(IPO 주식상장)를 통해서다. 1783년 스위스 수학자인 오일러(Euler, 1707~1783) : 학문적으로 방대한 업적을 남긴 만큼 오일러의 인생도 파란만장했다. 그는 20대 초반의 젊은 나이에 병으로 한쪽 눈을 실명하는 불운을 겪기도 했다. 러시아로 돌아간 말년에는 수학문제를 풀기위해서 사흘 밤낮을 꼬박 몰두하다 다른 쪽 시력마저 잃게 된다. 당시 파리아카데미에서는 수여하는 권위 있는 상을 수상하고자 저명한 수학자들도 몇 개월 붙잡는 어려운 문제를 단 사흘 만에 풀었는데 너무나 집중한 나머지 실명한 것이었다. 양쪽 눈을 모두 잃었지만 오일러는 비서에게 자신의 생각들을 받아 적게 하는 방식으로 계속해서 훌륭한 업적을 남겼다. 양 눈(안(眼)) 사이 거리는 6.5cm, 이 시각차가 오늘 3D TV 시대를 열었다. 본고에서는 최근 관심이 고조된 저커버그의 페이스북과 오일러 e에 관해 요약했다.

A Study on the Disaster Prevention Measures through Safety Awareness Survey for the Students living in a Dormitory (기숙사생의 안전의식 조사를 통한 재해예방 대책 연구)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the safety level of consciousness of college dorm life, and to suggest the problem derivation and to improve the prevention of accidents. The survey research was performed to investigate the contents of safety training for 150 people, and the effectiveness, the demands of safety were also examined. The risk factors were identified in order to assess the level of personal security awareness. The survey was performed for the knowledge of risky behaviors, such as disaster preparedness tips. The research showed that the satisfaction and effectiveness of safety training was high by investigation. Through the research, the recognition factor of the accident, which occurs by a lack of understanding for specific responses, must be enhanced using the safety training to respond adequately when disaster occurs.

An Attitude of Residents on College Temporary Housing - Focused on Students in Architectural Design Program - (대학 임시주거 거주학생들의 임시주거에 대한 태도 - 건축학과 학생들을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors negatively affecting college life, to investigate the perception gap between housing types, and to generate preliminary data for increasing residential satisfaction of students who live in temporary housing(e.g., dormitory or one-room). The utilized research methods included a questionnaire survey and an in-depth interview. The college students, especially from other regions, experienced more financial difficulties than others. They managed their tuition and living expense/allowance by parents supports and other sources(e.g., scholarship, arbeit, work in college, loan etc.). The reasons to choose dormitory, as temporary housing, were short distance to college and low costs. In case of one room, independent life was main reason to choose. Gender differences affected to the decision, moving away from present temporary housing. For example, male students preferred an independent life and a short commuting distance, while female students preferred an independent life and a safe life. Thus, considering the origin and gender differences of residents, dormitory planning needed to develop plans allowing independent life and to choose appropriate site for the purpose. In case of planning one room apartment, concerns for safety and landscape were more important than other factors.

Customer Perception Levels towards Service Quality Attributes of University Residence Hall Foodservice by Importance-Performance Analysis (중요도-수행도 분석을 이용한 대학 기숙사 급식소의 서비스 품질 속성에 대한 고객 인식분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze university students' perception of service quality attributes in residence hall foodservice. Questionnaires were hand delivered to 1,210 university students residing in a residence hall. A total of 1,011 was usable, resulting in an 83.6% response rate. The survey was conducted between October, 1998 and May, 1999. A statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS/Win 6.12 for Descriptive Analysis, $X^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Spearman Correlation, and Common factor Analysis, and Importance- Performance Analysis(IPA) was completed. Significant negative correlations between importance and performance were found with 'abundance of foods'(p < 0.001), 'discontent handling'(p < 0.001), and 'availability of new menus'(p < 0.01). factors including food, menu, sanitation, atmosphere, facilities, employee's attitude, and convenience were rearranged and a new dimension was created with the service. Employee's attitude and service factors received the highest scores in customer perception of importance and performance. Food, menu, and convenience factors were included in Quadrant A. female students had significantly higher importance mean scores than males, while males had significantly higher Performance mean scores.
