  • Functional dysphonia refers to a voice disturbance that occurs in the absence of structural or neurologic laryngeal pathological characteristics. Poorly regulated activity of the intrinsic and extrinsic laryngeal muscles is cited as the proximal cause of functional dysphonia (FD). Recently, the term functional dysphonia has been replaced in some clinical circles by diagnostic label muscle tension dysphonia (MTD), which serves to highlight excess, dysregulated, or imbalanced activity of the intrinsic and extrinsic laryngeal muscles as proximal cause of the observed dysphonia. And recent research evidence points to specific personality traits as important contributors to its development and maintenance. However, the origin of this dysregulated laryngeal muscle activity has not been fully elucidated. Further research is needed to better understand the pathogenesis of functional dysphonia, and factors contributing to its successful management.

  • The investigation of valley networks and their volume provide important information about past water activities on Mars. As an alternative of conventional image processing methods, terrain filtering algorithm using pointcloud data is suggested in this study. First, the topography of pointcloud is inverted so that the valleys become positive features and the algorithm is then applied to distinguish the valleys from the surface. Ground DEM and object DEM are generated from both the valleys and the surface pointcloud then the volume of valleys is estimated by multiplying the height difference between the surface with valleys and the area of valleys based on grid cellsize. In the test of valleys adjacent to Tuscaloosa crater, the total volume of valleys was estimated to be $1.41{\times}10^{11}m^3$ with the difference of 12% and 16% compared with the infill volume of Tuscaloosa crater and BTH result respectively.

  • As indicators of life quality have recently shown great improvement, early stage medical examination and health care patterns are usually preformed before diseases occur. Thus, hand acupuncture, as an alternative medicine to reflect these movements of preventative work and health care, is widely used these days. Therefore, in this paper, we measured the change of voice signals elements associated with heart by stimulating the heart A16 acupuncture point, and then we investigated possible improvements of cardiac function through analysis of cross-comparisons between measurements of cardiac changes. With this in mind, we collected voice samples associated with heart before and after stimulating the corresponding A16 acupuncture point, and we performed an experiment by applying the second formant bandwidth and Jitter. As result, stimulating the A16 acupuncture point results to lowering the second formant bandwidth and Jitter. The result has proven that using voice signal processing technology can help improvement of heart function.

  • For the development of kimchi seasoning, fish sauces were desalted using electrodialyzer and some chemical components were analyzed. The salt content of fish sauce was adjusted to 20%, 15%, 10%, 5%, 2% and pH, total nitrogen (TN) content, amino nitrogen (AN) content and $NH_3$ content was determined. During desalting process pH was increased and TN, AN content also increased. But $NH_3$ content was decreased. It was surposed that $NH_3$ was eliminated with $Na^+$ because similar charge characteristic. In conclusion, using electrodialyzer fish sauce could be desalted to less than 2% and salt and moisture was co-eliminated.

  • Changes in free amino acids and amino nitrogen of traditional kochujang were investigated during 180 days of fermentation. Tested kochujang included Sunchang kochujang prepared with glutinous rice, Boeun kochujang prepared with barley, and Sachun kochujang prepared with wheat. Amino acids remarkably increased during fermentation were methionine, glutamic acid, isoleucine, leucine and tyrosine. However, regardless of kinds of kochujang major free amino acids were serine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and proline. Glutamic acid was noted as the most contributing to the savory taste of kochujang in relation to the increasing ratio and content among tree amino acids during fermentaion. The correlation coefficent between totals of free amino acids and the contents of amino nitrogen were relatively high (0.87

  • Radiation dose estimation on the newborn and infants during radiation examinations, unlike for the adults, is not actively being progressed. Therefore, as an index to present exposure dose during radiation examinations on newborn and infants, entrance skin dose was measured, and the result was compared with results of monte carlo simulation to raise reproducibility of entrance skin dose measurement, and it was proved that various geometry implementation was possible. The resulting values through monte carlo simulation was estimated using normalization factors for entrance skin dose to calibrate radiation dose and then normalized to a unit X ray radiation field size. Average entrance skin dose per one time exposure was $78.41{\mu}Gy$ and the percentage error between measurement by dosimeter and by monte carlo simulation was found to be -4.77%. Entrance skin dose assessment by monte carlo simulation provides possible alternative method in difficult entrance skin dose estimation for the newborn and infants who visit hospital for actual diagnosis.

  • Environmental sculptures not only play a part as various cultural facilities but also symbolize local unique culture beyond the limit of functional role. Therefore subway environmental sculptures not only should be approached in terms of public installations and beauty but also should be designed to meet the needs of subway users appropriately. In order to find out what subway users think about environment sculptures installed in subway stations, the factors that can evaluate awareness and preference for environment sculptures and visual image of environment sculptures were examined and analyzed. Positive elements have been shown with regard to environment sculptures but it was judged that visual quality of subway environment can be improved more if environment sculptures keep in harmony with the characteristics of stations.

  • We propose a smart human-computer interface replacing conventional mouse interface. The interface is able to control cursor and command action with only hand performing without object. Four finger motions(left click, right click, hold, drag) for command action are enough to express all mouse function. Also we materialize cursor movement control using image processing. The measure what we use for inference is entropy of EMG signal, gaussian modeling and maximum likelihood estimation. In image processing for cursor control, we use color recognition to get the center point of finger tip from marker, and map the point onto cursor. Accuracy of finger movement inference is over 95% and cursor control works naturally without delay. we materialize whole system to check its performance and utility.

  • GDP gap is closely related with economic activity of a country as a whole, especially with the economic fluctuations which is called business cycle. GDP gap is regarded as an important variable for the monetary policy of the central bank because it provides information on the excess demand pressures and employment matters. However, GDP gap may not provide enough information of the effect of recent economic structural change or the environmental change of domestic and external economic condition. In this paper, the GDP is decomposed by statistical filtering techniques and various models are fitted to estimate the influence of GDP gap on Inflation and see if it has been changed. Analysis results show that the influence of GDP gap on inflation decreased in the 2000s while that of global GDP gap increased. These results also support that recent low inflation rate is due to the change of overseas economic condition, such as a slowdown in exports resulting from the global recession, as well as domestic factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the spatial structure of the production of technological knowledge in the Korean photonics industry. Patent data were used as a proxy of knowledge production. The data were gathered by keywords among the registered patents which were applied from 1996 to 2007. The photonics industry patents registered at United States Patent Trademark Office(USPTO) show that Korea and Taiwan, as a latecomer, have rapidly increased. The photonics industry patents registered at Korean Intellectual Property Office(KIPO) were analyzed by type of application: single-applicant and co-applicant patents. The analysis of single-applicant patents shows that technological knowledge in the Korean photonics industry has been produced mainly in Seoul, Suwon, and Daejeon. The degree of spatial bias, however, has been slightly decreased during the study period. Above-mentioned regions are also main centers in the analysis of co-applicant patents, but the forms of inter-regional cluster and network are different over time. It is because agents participating in co-applicant patents are diverse and increased. Furthermore, it seems that policies, such as the improvement of the infrastructure of ICT, the promotion of the photonics industry and the industry-university-institute collaboration, are very influential.
