  • 최근의 휴대 전화는 단순한 음성 통신 기기 역할 뿐만 아니라 데이터 통신 기기로도 쓰이고 있으며, CDMA-2000 망 보급으로 인하여 데이터 통신 대역폭이 멀티미디어 데이터를 처리 할 수 있을 만큼 증대 되었다. 하지만 휴대 전화는 하드웨어 성능이 음성 통신 기기로 최적화 되어 있고 휴대성을 높이기 위해 저전력의 저 성능 프로세서를 탑재 하였기 때문에 소프트웨어 방식의 비디오/오디오 재생이 매우 힘들다. 특히. 널리 사용되는 비디오/오디오 표준(MPEG-x, H.26x, 등등)은 압축 최우선의 방식으로써 계산량이 매우 크기 때문에 휴대 전화에서 하드웨어 도움 없이 소프트웨어로만 재생하기에는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 먼저 일반 목적의 널리 사용되는 코덱의 문제점과 휴대전화의 하드웨어 자원에 관해 알아 보고, 연산량을 효과적으로 조절할 수 있는 웨이블릿 함수를 이용하여 휴대 전화 시스템에 적합한 비디오/오디오 코덱을 제안한다. 또한 비디오 디코딩에 필요한 연산을 측정하고 실제 휴대 전화에 적용하여 그 성능을 확인 한다.

  • 동등한 영상의 풀질을 유지하면서 기존의 비디오 압축 표준보다 30퍼센트 이상의 비트 절감효과를 내는 H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC(Advanced Video Coding) 표준이 최근 확정되었다. AVC는 국내 지상파 DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 멀티미디어 서비스의 비디오 표준으로도 채택되어 많은 관심을 불러일으키고 있다. 본 논문에서는 H.264/AVC 부호기를 위한 고정 비트 율 제어 알고리듬을 구현하고 이를 실험을 통하여 검증하였다. 비디오 부호화 과정에서 각 픽처마다 발생하는 비트 량이 같지는 않지만 부호기 출력 비트 율은 일정하게 한 수 있으며 이를 고정 비트 율 제어라 한다 부호기는 입력 영상의 복잡도를 예측하고 실제 버퍼 점유도에 대한 피프백 정보를 이용하여 발생 비트 수글 조절한다. 특히 전송 대역폭 제한사항이 있는 고정 비트 율 채널 환경에서 비디오 부호기의 고정 비트 율 제어는 반드시 필요하다. JVT에서 제공하는 참조 소프트웨어인 JM(Joint Model) 소프트웨어가 아직까지 고정 비트 율 제어 기능을 지원하지 않으므로, MPEG-2 Part 2 Video 표준과 MPEG-4 Part 2 Visual 표준에서 고정 비트 율 제어에 이용되었던 TM5 고정 비트 율 제어 모델을 적용하여 H.264/AVC 부호기의 고정 비트 율 제어를 구현하였다.

  • 대용량 멀티미디어 미디어 서버를 구성함에 있어 I/O 병목현상을 극복하기 위하여 저장 서버들과 제어 서버로 구성되어진 2계층 분산 클러스터 서버구조가 많이 사용된다. 2 계층 분산 클러스터 서버는 부하 균등, 대역폭 관리 및 저장 서버의 관리 측면에서 유리한 반면, 저장 서버와 제어 서버간의 통신 오버헤드를 발생시킨다. 이러한 오버헤드를 줄이기 위해서는 저장 서버에서 읽은 미디어 데이터를 제어 서버를 거치지 않고 직접 클라이언트에 전송할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고, 저장 용량을 확장하거나 손상된 디스크를 교체하는 경우를 대비하여 분산 클러스터 서버는 다양한 성능의 이기종 디스크를 지원하여야 한다. 또한, I/O 장치와 운영체제가 빠르게 발전됨에 따라 미디어 서버는 새로운 I/O 장치 및 운영체제 등에 쉽게 이식될 수 있어야 하고, 응용 소프트웨어 개발자가 시스템의 환경에 따라 블록크기, 데이터 배치정책, 사본 정책 등을 유연하게 조절할 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문에서 위에서 언급한 멀티미디어 서버의 요구를 고려하여 Fast Ethernet 환경에서 병렬 멀티미디어 파일 시스템(PMFS : Parallel Multimedia File System)을 설계 및 구현하고 실험을 통해 PVFS(Parallel Virtual File System)와 성능을 비교 분석하였다. 이 실험의 결과에 따르면 PMFS는 멀티미디어 데이터에 대하여 PVFS보다 3%∼15%의 향상된 성능을 보였다.

  • In the current Internet, it is difficult for an Internet Phone to guarantee the QoS due to variable network conditions such as packet loss rate, delay and bandwidth. In addition, the QoS of an Internet Video Phone is more hard to guarantee because of video data. In this paper, we investigate application-level QoS control schemes that can adapt to variable network conditions, and describe an error control scheme and a congestion control scheme. Based on these QoS control schemes, we have designed and implemented an Internet Video Phone System that supports adaptive audio and video delivery. Through experiments, we found that the Internet Video Phone can reduce the packet loss rate considerably as well as adjust the transmission rate considering other TCP flows.

  • We have demonstrated the wavelength tunable ultrashort pulse fiber ring laser proposed the novel method for measuring the cavity loss from relaxation oscillation frequency and the pump power. To suppress the polarization instability the laser cavity is configured with polarization maintaining fibers and to control the center wavelength a 2.4 nm bandwidth tunable wavelength filter was inserted in the cavity. The laser has 8 picosecond pulse width, 10 GHz repetition rate and 1.2 mW average power in 1530-1560 nm operation range.

Far-End Crosstalk Compensation for High-Speed Interface (고속 인터페이스를 위한 원단누화 보상 기술 동향)

  • In a multi-channel single-ended system, the far-end crosstalk (FEXT) due to mutual inductance and mutual capacitance between two adjacent channels critically limit the bandwidth. FEXT causes crosstalk-induced jitter (CIJ) and crosstalk-induced glitch (CIG) which leads to timing margin and voltage margin degradations, respectively. Therefore, FEXT must be compensated in order to increase eye opening and achieve high data-rate. It can be compensated in transmitter by controlling the timing of the data or reshaping the waveform of the signal. Also, FEXT can be compensated in receiver by generating mimicked FEXT using high-pass filter. In this paper, recent techniques to compensate FEXT are investigated, with discussions of their pros and cons.

  • The drone-type base station will be an optimal platform as a way of information sharing for efficient operation of the military force due to their high network flexibility. It is expected that the characteristics of the drone-type base station which would freely adjust the altitude can be used to offset the propagation attenuation characteristics of the millimeter-wave frequency band by securing the stable Line of Sight. In this paper, we proposed a framework for evaluation drone-type base station that can be utilized as a future military communication network by performing modeling for performance analysis that can reflect various factors.

  • Tho existing TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) is known to be unsuitable for a network with the characteristics of high RDP(Bandwidth-Delay Product) because of the fixed small or large buffer size at the TCP sender and receiver. Thus, some trial cases of adjusting the buffer sizes automatically with respect to network condition have been proposed to improve the end-to-end TCP throughput. ATBT(Automatic TCP fluffer Tuning) attempts to assure the buffer size of TCP sender according to its current congestion window size but the ATBT assumes that the buffer size of TCP receiver is maximum value that operating system defines. In DRS(Dynamic Right Sizing), by estimating the TCP arrival data of two times the amount TCP data received previously, the TCP receiver simply reserves the buffer size for the next arrival, accordingly. However, we do not need to reserve exactly two times of buffer size because of the possibility of TCP segment loss. We propose an efficient TCP buffer tuning technique(called TBT-PLR: TCP buffer tuning algorithm based on packet loss ratio) since we adopt the ATBT mechanism and the TBT-PLR mechanism for the TCP sender and the TCP receiver, respectively. For the purpose of testing the actual TCP performance, we implemented our TBT-PLR by modifying the linux kernel version 2.4.18 and evaluated the TCP performance by comparing TBT-PLR with the TCP schemes of the fixed buffer size. As a result, more balanced usage among TCP connections was obtained.

A Study on Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of Wideband 2-Mode HPA for the Satellite Mobile Communications System (이동위성 통신용 광대역 2단 전력제어 HPA의 구현 및 성능평가에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the development of the 2-mode variable gain high power amplifier for a transmitter of INMARSAT-M operating at L-band(1626.5-1646.5 MHz). This SSPA(Solid State Power Amplifier) is amplified 42 dBm in high power mode and 36 dBm in low power mode for INMARSAT-M. The allowable error sets +1 dBm of an upper limit and -2 dBm of a lower limit, respectively. To simplify the fabrication process, the whole system is designed by two parts composed of a driving amplifier and a high power amplifier, The HP's MGA-64135 and Motorola's MRF-6401 are used for driving amplifier, and the ERICSSON's PTE-10114 and PTF-10021 are used the high power amplifier. The SSPA was fabricated by the circuits of RF, temperature compensation and 2-mode gain control circuit in aluminum housing. The gain control method was proposed by controlling the voltage for the 2-mode. In addition, It has been experimentally verified that the gain is controlled for single tone signal as well as two tone signals. The realized SSPA has 42 dB and 36 dB for small signal gain within 20 MHz bandwidth, and the VSWR of input and output port is less than 1.5:1 The minimum value of the 1 dB compression point gets 5 dBm for 2-mode variable gain high power amplifier. A typical two tone intermodulation point has 32.5 dBc maximum which is single carrier backed off 3 dB from 1 dB compression point. The maximum output power of 43 dBm was achieved at the 1636.5 MHz. These results reveal a high power of 20 Watt, which was the design target.the design target.

A Study on the Intenna Based on PIFA with Multi Element (Mulit Element를 이용한 PIFA 구조의 Intenna에 관한 연구)

  • In this thesis, the Multi element antenna with wideband and enhanced gain characteristic is proposed to operate at both frequency range from 824 MHz to 896 11Hz for the CDMA and frequency range from 908.5 MHz to 914 MHz for the RFID band. The proposed antenna has tile size of $35{\times}15{\times}5mm^3$ in order to put it in the A model of S company and each element of the proposed antenna is folded to obtain the minimum size. To obtain the antenna with wideband and high gain characteristic, the radiator of the antenna is divided into 4 elements. As a result, bandwidth of the proposed antenna become broader and lower center frequency is appeared due to increased and lengthened current path. Moreover, the enhanced gain characteristic is verified because divided element structure that induct uniform current distribution can get increased antenna efficiency. To attain more uniform current distribution, modified structure of the feeding point that can deliver currents directly is designed. The antenna that alters the feeding structure has higher gain value. Each element is folded to increase the current paths considering the current directions to attain the miniaturization of the antenna. To measure the handset antenna, the handset case must be considered. Even though antenna is designed for predicted characteristic, the resonance frequency is shifted and antenna gain is deteriorated at predicted frequency while antenna is set in the handset case. 1.08 GHz of the resonant frequency is determined after frequency shift from 150 MHz to 200 MHz is confirmed and the maximum gain is measured as 3.1 dBi while antenna is not set in the handset. In case handset case is considered, the experimental results show that the impedance bandwidth for VSWR<2 is from 0.824 GHz to 0.936 GHz(110 MHz). This result appears that the proposed antenna can cover both CDMA and RFID band at once. The measured gain is from -3.4 dBi to -0.5 dBi and it has omni-directional pattern practically.
