The purpose of this study is to identify the applicability of machine learning targeting titles in the classification of books in public libraries. Data analysis was performed using Python's scikit-learn library through the Jupiter notebook of the Anaconda platform. KoNLPy analyzer and Okt class were used for Hangul morpheme analysis. The units of analysis were 2,000 title fields and KDC classification class numbers (300 and 600) extracted from the KORMARC records of public libraries. As a result of analyzing the data using six machine learning models, it showed a possibility of applying machine learning to book classification. Among the models used, the neural network model has the highest accuracy of title classification. The study suggested the need for improving the accuracy of title classification, the need for research on book titles, tokenization of titles, and stop words.

This study aims to analyse the actual condition of the ebook services and propose the improvements of ebook services for children in the Korean public library. For this purpose, the current condition of the ebook services in the public libraries were analyzed and categorized by three criteria. Secondly, the ebook use analysis was conducted using PCs and mobile devices in terms of access to ebook library site, searching method, contents type and viewer, lending process, and user help. As a result of the analysis, several issues such as the difficulty in access to ebook site, the complexity of setting and usage depending on the file format, the insufficient user guide, the relatively lower quality service than the commercial's, and the lack of retrieval functions specialized for the ebook were presented. The improvement plan for the ebook services, especially for children in the public library was suggested.

With the cultural and educational functions of public libraries becoming revitalized according to social changes, there has been a development of reading cultural programs. This study researched the operating conditions of reading culture programs for elementary school students in public libraries in Suwon City for the past 5 years and presented the programs' drawbacks and improvement plans drawn from surveys on user satisfaction. An analysis of the survey results yielded the following suggestions for improvement: forming a consultative group with other managers of reading culture programs in Suwon's public libraries, promoting using various media, forming a human resource pool to hire professional instructors, operating of the educational programs for potential volunteers, expanding of the facilities for reading culture programs, and linking with the other folk culture and art organizations in order to develop classes folk culture and art organizations. The results of this paper will be used as a reference when operating conditions of reading culture programs for elementary school students in public libraries in Suwon City, and they will offer the opportunity to implement problems according to needs of participants.

As Korea enters into an aging society, the problem of information literacy against senior citizens is becoming a socioeconomic issue in Korea. Since most of the public libraries in Korea are already equipped with infrastructures for information dissemination, they may be able to solve this problem most effectively among public organizations. In this study in order to investigate senior citizen's general understanding of public library, cognizance of the programs for them. their information request levels, preferred contents, information seeking behavior, etc., 176 participants in educational programs at two senior citizens' welfare center were interviewed and surveyed with structured questionnaires. The statistical analysis of the surveyed data has shown that the senior citizen's general understanding of public library was very poor and that those under 75 years old preferred educational programs and those over 75 preferred recreational ones. Recommendations were made based on the results of the analysis.

한국도서관협회(회장 이두영)는 9월 24일부터 3일간 경주교육문화회관에서 '전국도서관대회'를 개최했다. 신일희 총장(계명대)은 기조연설을 통해 시대적 사명에 복무했던 도서관의 영광을 재현할 것을 촉구했다. 그는 "도서관이 지식과 정보를 보급하는 것은 인류발전을 위해 수임받은 숭고한 사명"이라며 도서관 대중화를 위한 관계자들의 적극적인 노력을 요망했다. 특별강연과 주제발표, 세미나 등 모두 26편의 강연이 이뤄진 가운데 김포옥 교수가 주제발표한 (공공도서관장의 전문의식과 교육방향)은 앙케트를 바탕으로 도서관의 실질적인 운영자인 도서관장의 '전문가 의식'을 분석해 눈길을 끌었다. 김포옥 교수는 전국 도서관장 329명 중에 설문에 응한 188명의 응답을 바탕으로 근무경위.근무연수.사서교육이수 여부 등을 분석했다. 주목되는 대목은 도서관장의 34%가 사서자격증조차 없는 비전문가라는 점, 도서관장을 전문직으로 평가한 사람이 115명(61.2%)에 불과한 점 등이다. '도서관 일을 특별히 지망하지 않았다.'는 관장이 44%나 되어 애초부터 '전문가 의식'을 기대하는 것이 무리하는 추론도 도출했다. 김교수는 "도서관장의 전문가 의식을 키우기 위해 지속적인 교육과 직업만족도를 높이는 방안을 모색해야 할 것"이라고 주장했다. 제1주제 '도서관 정책' 방향을 모색하는 자리에서 한성택 교수(숭의여대) 등 3인은 21세기에 맞는 우리나라 도서관 정책의 기본 방향을 제고하고 도서관의 유기적 역할을 모색했다. 제2주제 '봉사'에 대해 채윤정 사서(정독도서관) 등 4인은 도서관의 서비스 실태와 향후 방향성을 논했으며, 제3주제 '운영'은 김포옥 교수(전북대) 등 4인이 도서관 운영의 현주소를 각각의 입장에서 조명했다. 마지막 주제는 '학교도서관' 활성화로, 김종성사서(부산대) 등 2인이 도서관과 학교 교육의 연계성, 학교도서관의 발전 전략 방안을 모색했다. 주제발표 논문 가운데 3편을 욕약해 싣는다.

The roles and functions of domestic public libraries are diversifying, but various problems have emerged due to internally biased book lending. In addition, due to the 4th Industrial Revolution, public libraries have introduced a book recommendation system focusing on popular books, but the variety of books that users can access is limited. Therefore, in this study, the public library unborrowed book recommendation system was implemented limiting its spatial scope to Duryu Library in Daegu City to enhance the satisfaction of public library users, by using the loan records data (213,093 cases), user information (35,561 people), etc. and utilizing methods like cluster analysis, topic modeling, content-based filtering recommendation algorithm, and conducted a survey on actual users' satisfaction to present the possibility and implications of the unborrowed book recommendation system. As a result of the analysis, the majority of users responded with high satisfaction, and was able to find the satisfaction was relatively high in the class classified by specific gender, age, occupation, and usual reading. Through the results of this study, it is expected that some problems such as biased book lending and reduced operational efficiency of public libraries can be improved, and limitations of the study was also presented.

Jeongseon-gun has the SaBuk Public Library, 17 small libraries, and the Jeongseon Educational Library. In 2023, with the completion of the Jeongseon County Public Library, there is a need to establish innovative library policy strategies that consider balanced development by region. The primary goal of this study was to set the direction for the future of Jeongseon County's public libraries and provide appropriate strategies. To achieve this, an examination of the local situation and characteristics of Jeongseon County was conducted, followed by an analysis of the operational status of the public libraries. Additionally, a satisfaction survey and demand analysis were conducted among the residents of Jeongseon County regarding the libraries, to analyze directions for library improvements. Ultimately, taking into account the local characteristics, library status, and residents' needs, an optimized strategy for the region was presented. As a result of the study, the operational goal to achieve the vision was set as "a life-friendly library that shares the healthy lives of residents of Jeongseon-gun," and emphasized its role as a companion close to daily life for the healthy lives of Jeongseon-gun residents. The four strategic tasks to promote the operational goals were expressed as "a library that grows with local residents," "a library that provides multicultural exchange," "a sustainable future-oriented library," and "a library that cooperates with the local community."

This study aims to investigate the current status of young adult services centering on public libraries in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam, identify problems, and then suggest tasks for service revitalization. The status of young adult services and librarians' perceptions in the 93 public libraries in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam that were registered in the 2021 National Library Statistics System and the Busan Metropolitan City Library Portal was investigated. As a result of the survey, 24% of public libraries have a space for young adult, and if there is dedicated space, it was found that the most number of bookshelves for young adult were installed inside the space. Libraries that provide young adult services accounted for 76% of the total, and the age range of the service targets was set between 13 and 18 years of age. The analysis revealed that it was difficult to provide services due to a combination of problems such as poor use and passive participation by young adult, lack of dedicated space, lack of manpower for program operation, and lack of budget. Nevertheless, most librarians agreed on the need to provide young adult-only spaces and young adult services. The tasks to revitalize young adult services in public libraries was suggested; expand young adult participation in the space creation and service planning/operation stage, create a space dedicated to young adult, diversify the contents of youth volunteer activities, secure the professionalism of the librarian in charge, human resource utilization, and expand public relations for services.

The purpose of the study is to identify the degree of relevancy on the facilities for the older persons in the public library buildings. To achieve the purpose, the study has researched and analyzed' the guidelines of the law contributing to the convenience of the handicapped, older persons, pregnant women etc(1999)' for the older persons accessing to the facilities in the public library buildings. And then, the older persons' physical standard sizes in 'Size Korea(1997)' are researched and reconfigured. The study has selected the 10 kinds in such facilities as followed : Door, Accessible Route, Stair, Elevator, Escalator, Ramp, Toilet Stall, Urinal, Table, and Post Box. As the result, the study has identified the relevancies of each facilities based on the older persons's physical standard sizes.

This study was conducted as basic research for establishing a mid to long term development plan for libraries in Uiseong-gun, designated as a depopulated area. First, the social, cultural, and environmental characteristics of Uiseong-gun were analyzed and compared with the library infrastructure of depopulation areas similar in size with Uiseong-gun. In addition, a survey was conducted on the perception of users to understand the usage status of libraries, satisfaction with services and improvement plans, non-use factors, and demands for new libraries. Based on this process, the direction of Uiseong-gun library policy was presented. Specifically, four strategic directions for the development of libraries (future orientation, community revitalization, service specialization of the information poor, enhancement of local humanities and spiritual culture) and five key service tasks (building library brand, implementing innovative spaces and services, expanding library functions for improvement of settlement conditions of residents, developing and providing services for the elderly reflecting local characteristics, promoting reading culture) were derived. The proposed core tasks focused on future-oriented library services to overcome the limitations of a population decrease area and develop the potential of Uiseong-gun.
