Efficient Mass-rearing Method of Mythimna loreyi (Lepidoptera: Noctuidea) using Artificial Diets (인공사료를 이용한 뒷흰가는줄무늬방나방(Mythimna loreyi) (나비목: 밤나방과)의 효율적인 대량 사육 방법)

  • A lot of individuals of Mythimna loreyi have been attracted to the sex-pheromone traps of Spodoptera frugiperda during recent few years. However, there is no information about this pest. Thus, an efficient mass-rearing method of M. loreyi is demanded to study this pest. In this study, we compared the effects of artificial diets and rearing methods on its larval development and oviposition to suggest an efficient mass-rearing method of M. loreyi. Between S. frugipera and Agrotis ipsilon artificial diets, A. ipsilon diet showed more rapid larval development with higher survivorship, and decreased pupa weights and oviposition numbers compared to S. frugipera diet. Moreover, a grouping rearing caused more rapid larva development, decreased pupa weight and survivorship compared to an individual rearing. Therefore, for mass-rearing of M. loreyi, it is considered efficient to rear the newly emerged larvae in groups using A. ipsilon artificial diet and then rearing them individually after second or third larval stadium.

  • As increasing utilization of Tenebrio molitor for industry, establishing effective conditions of indoor mass-rearing system become more important. For this reason, the aim of this study was to identify the physiological characteristics of Tenebrio molitor in different range of temperatures, photoperiods and rearing densities for mass breeding. As a result, their egg had above 70% hatching rate at $17.5{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$ and the egg period was shown 5~7 days in $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$. Consequently, in the consideration of the hatching rates and egg periods, the optimal indoor temperature for rearing was $25{\sim}27.5^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, development period of larvae in mass breeding system was shorter than individual breeding system under all the conditions of temperature. Also, the pupal weight was higher in mass breeding system except for $20^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$. Considering elasticity of demand and weight of production, the effective condition was mass-breeding system at $25^{\circ}C$. In photoperiodic condition, the shortest of larval period was 157.35 day in 14L : 10D.

  • Biological characteristics of the almond moth, Cadra cautella, of which eggs will be substitute diets for Orius spp. and Trichogramma spp., were investigated and a mass-rearing system for the moth was developed. At 25$^{\circ}C$, egg, larval, and pupal period was 4.2, 29.8 and 8.3 days, respectively, and adult longevity was 5.8 days for female and 4.8 days for male. Total number of eggs at 20, 25 and 30$^{\circ}C$ was 128.9,207.9 and 139.9, respectively. The moth could be successfully reared with all food substrates tested, of which rice bran (50%)+chick feed (50%) assumed to be proper for massrearing in view of cost. Eggs could be stocked at 9 C for 7 days, representing 82% hatchability. In the rearing cage (16${\times}$24${\times}$9cm) used, 1,000 eggs was better for initial level of inoculation, showing relatively high emergence rate and adult weight. Mass-rearing procedures were explained in detail.

  • To establish the succeeding generations of wild silkworms, Bombyx mandarina Moore, massrearing was made in the laboratory. The rearing result was good under high humidity and moderately warm condition. Larval periods were 15 to 25 days and the most of larval period was around 17 days. The pupation rate and the pupal period of most of males and females were 40% and 13 to 25 days, respectively. There were two emergence peaks of males and females, and males emergence peak occurred two or three days faster than females.

  • Simple mass-rearing methods for Spodoptera exigua Hubner with an artificial diet were done in th laboratory. Hatchability of egg and its survival rates upto 3rd instar lava were 97.9 and 83.3 ercent, respectively. The pupation rates in individual rearing, mass-rearing, mass-rearing with sawdust were 48.5%, 37.5%, and 82.5%, respectively. The emergence rates in those methods were 85.2%, 86.7%, 90.9%, respectively.

  • The vinyl-shielded rearing chamber was controlled by automatic electric heater to maintain relatively constant temperature and under this condition, it took 13 to 14 days from egg to adult and 8 days for their preoviposition. The pupal weight was not varied with the advance of generation, whereas was greatly effected by temperature changes. Since only $60\%$ of the pupae was able to classify the sex by pupal weight, a mechanical device will be needed for the further sexing.

  • A storage mite, Tyrophcgus putrescentiae, is recently known to be widely distributed in Korea, being commonly found in house dust, and may, therefore, be allergenically important. The purpose of this study was to develop mass rearing techniques for supplying a large quantity of allergens. The laboratory mouse food powder gave the highest yield, showing 1,251.5-fold increase in number after 10 weeks, and the mixed powder of laboratory mouse food and yeast (1 : 1) also gave same level of the production (1.203 1-fold increase in week 10). Several different combinations of temperature and relative humidity conditions were compared, and the maximum propagation was obtained at $25^{\circ}C$ and 64% RH, showing 960-fold increase in number. When the same amount of culture media was used the size of the culture container did not significantly influence the quantitative yield of T. putrescentice mites.

  • 전복류는 옛날부터 고급수산품으로서 가치가 높고, 근년에 와서는 경제성장과 함께 그 수요가 날로 증가되는 추세로 양식 대상종으로 전망이 밝다(변 등, 1984, 김, 1997). 전복양식은 최근 연안환경의 오염으로 인한 양식장 적지의 제한 등의 여러 가지 문제점의 제기로 종묘생산과 양성에 이르기까지 육상 수조에서 완전양식이 시도되고 있는 추세이다. 육상수조식 양식은 전 사육과정을 인위적으로 관리 하면서 사육하기 때문에 생존율 및 성장효과 면에서는 다른 양식 방법보다 유리하다는 이점을 가지고 있지만, 전복이 한정된 공간에서 대량으로 사육됨에 따라 여러 가지 질병과 수질악화, 여름철 고수온기 때의 수온의 급상승이나 적조 생물 및 이상수괴에 의한 치패의 성장저하 대량 폐사 등의 문제점을 가지고 있다.
