Behavior of concrete pavement due to temperature gradient was investigated for 48 hours at test road using Falling Weight Deflectometer. The deflections at slab center changed similarly to those of ambient temperature and temperature gradients in the slab. And rapid variations in the deflections were observed between 8 to 12 in the morning. However, dynamic modulus of subgrade reaction and joint deflections showed reverse trends to the ambient temperature and temperature gradients. The dynamic modulus of subgrade reaction was significantly affected by temperature gradient when its value got higher. Backcalculated elastic moduli were obtained using AREA method and Method of Equivalent Thickness. The trends of the backcalculated elastic modulus were similar to those of dynamic modulus of subgrade reaction. Measured load transfer efficiencies showed maximum peak in the morning due to dowel locking. However, additional effort is necessary to verify the result.

The dispersion of plume which is emitted from a chimney is governed by a lot of factors: wind, local terrain, turbulence intensity of atmosphere, and temperature, etc. In this study, we numerically investigate the plume dispersions for various altitudinal temperature gradients and wind speeds. The normal atmosphere has the temperature decrease of $0.6^{\circ}C/100m$, however, actually the real atmosphere has the various altitudinal temperature profiles according to the meteorological factors. A previous study focused on this atmospheric temperature gradient which induces a large scale vertical flow motion in the atmosphere thus makes a peculiar plume dispersion characteristics. In this paper, the effects of the atmospheric temperature gradient as well as the wind speed are investigated concurrently. The results for the developing processes in the atmosphere and the affluent's concentrations at the ambient and ground level are compared under the various altitudinal temperature gradients and wind speeds.
We investigated the effects of rising temperatures on the photosynthesis, mineral composition, and growth of radish (Raphanus sativus var. hortensis) in a winter cropping system using a temperature gradient tunnel to predict the impact of rising global temperatures. Vegetative growth, including shoot and root fresh and dry weights, shoot length, and root length and diameter, was high under elevated temperatures (ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ and $+7^{\circ}C$) compared with ambient temperature. At elevated temperatures, the N, P, Ca, Mg, and Fe contents were high in shoots, whereas in roots, the K, Ca, Mg, and Fe contents were high and the Cu content was low. The maximum photosynthetic rates ($22.1{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at ambient temperature $+4^{\circ}C$ and $22.9{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at ambient temperature $+7^{\circ}C$) at elevated temperatures were more than twice that ($9.7{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) at ambient temperature, whereas the water use efficiency was lower at elevated temperatures. These results suggest that rising global temperatures will lead to increased mineral absorption and photosynthesis in radish in winter cropping systems, subsequently favoring plant growth, although the water requirements will be high.
In order to gain insight into the physiological responses of plants to high temperature stress, the effects of temperature on Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris subsp. napus var. pekinensis cv. Detong) were investigated through analyses of photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence under 3 different temperatures in the temperature gradient tunnel. Growth (leaf length and number of leaves) during the rosette stage was greater at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ and ambient $+7^{\circ}C$ temperatures than at ambient temperature. Photosynthetic $CO_2$ fixation rates of Chinese cabbage grown under the different temperatures did not differ significantly. However, dark respiration rate was significantly higher in the cabbage that developed under ambient temperature relative to elevated temperature. Furthermore, elevated growth temperature increased transpiration rate and stomatal conductance resulting in an overall decrease of water use efficiency. The chlorophyll a fluorescence transient was also considerably affected by high temperature stress; the fluorescence yield $F_J$, $F_I$, and $F_P$ decreased considerably at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ and ambient $+7^{\circ}C$ temperatures, with induction of $F_K$ and decrease of $F_V/F_O$. The values of RC/CS, ABS/CS, TRo/CS, and ETo/CS decreased considerably, while DIo/CS increased with increased growth temperature. The symptoms of soft-rot disease were observed in the inner part of the cabbage heads after 7, 9, and/or 10 weeks of cultivation at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ and ambient $+7^{\circ}C$ temperatures, but not in the cabbage heads growing at ambient temperature. These results show that Chinese cabbage could be negatively affected by high temperature under a future climate change scenario. Therefore, to maintain the high productivity and quality of Chinese cabbage, it may be necessary to develop new high temperature tolerant cultivars or to markedly improve cropping systems. In addition, it would be possible to use the non-invasive fluorescence parameters $F_O$, $F_V/F_M$, and $F_V/F_O$, as well as $F_K$, $M_O$, $S_M$, RC/CS, ETo/CS, $PI_{abs}$, and $SFI_{abs}$ (which were selected in this study), to quantitatively determine the physiological status of plants in response to high temperature stresses.

This study was conducted to determine the impact of elevated temperature based on climate change scenario on growth and bulb quality of extremely early-maturing onion (Allium cepa L. cv. Singsingball) in the temperature gradient tunnels. There were treated with 3 groups, one is a control group (ambient temperature, mean temperature at $9.8^{\circ}C$), another ambient temperature $+2^{\circ}C$ (mean temperature at $12.0^{\circ}C$), and the other ambient temperature $+5^{\circ}C$ (mean temperature at $14.3^{\circ}C$). Compared with the control, plant height, neck diameter, leaf area, top fresh weight and dry weight were significantly increased at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature. Bulb diameter and bulb weight was highest at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature (mean temperature at $12.0^{\circ}C$) during the growth period. Bulb/neck diameter ratio, over 2.0 a good indicator of development of bulb, increased rapidly at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature. This result suggests that extremely early-maturing onion (Allium cepa L. cv. Singsingball) could maintain the higher productivity and bulb quality at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature. On the contrary, $5^{\circ}C$ higher than atmospheric temperature shows negative effects on yields under a future climate change scenario.

From the previous researches about flow characteristic of micro-nozzle, we found that viscosity and back pressure induced heavy losses in micro nozzle. To overcome thess losses, we began to study new conceptual micro propulsion system that is thermal transpiration based micro propulsion system. It has no moving parts and can pump the gaseous propellant by temperature gradient only (cold to hot). Most of previous research on thermal transpiration is in its early stage and mainly studied for application to small vacuum facility or gas chromatography in ambient condition using nanoporous material like aerogel. In this study, we focus on basic research of propulsion system based on thermal transpiration using polyimide material in vacuum conditions.

This study assessed clove germination, shoot growth, photosynthesis and bulb development of southern-type garlic (Allium sativum L.) in a temperature gradient tunnel (TGT), to examine the impacts of increases in temperature on the growth of garlic and find a way to minimize them. The temperatures in the middle and outlet of the TGT were 3.2℃ and 5.8℃ higher, respectively, than the ambient temperature at the tunnel inlet. The germination of garlic cloves was late at temperatures of ambient+3℃ (in the middle of the TGT) and ambient+6℃ (at the outlet) than at ambient temperature (at the inlet). However, bolting and the timing of maximum leaf number per plant were faster at ambient+3℃ or +6℃ than at ambient temperature. Shoot growth was generally greater at ambient temperature. Bulb growth did not significantly differ according to cultivation temperatures, but fresh and dry weights were slightly higher at ambient temperature and ambient+3℃ in the late growth stage. The photosynthesis rate (A), stomatal conductance (gs), and transpiration rate (E) were higher at ambient+3℃ than at ambient temperature. Furthermore, at ambient+3℃, the net photosynthetic rate (Amax) was high, while the dark respiration rate (Rd) was low. At ambient temperature and ambient+3℃, bulb development was healthier, resulting in better productivity and more commercial bulbs, while at ambient+6℃, the bulbs were small and secondary cloves developed, resulting in low commercial value. Therefore, at elevated temperatures caused by global warming, it is necessary to meet the low-temperature requirements before clove sowing, or to delay the sowing time, to improve germination rate and increase yield. The harvest should also be advanced to escape high-temperature stress in the bulb development stage.

This study was conducted to determine the impact of elevated temperature in growing season on the growth and fruit quality of red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) by cultivating pepper in the temperature gradient tunnels. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf number and total leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight increased at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature, whereas each leaf area decreased as temperature increased. The plants grown under ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature showed the greatest number of flower and fruit. Fruit weight, fruit length and fruit diameter decreased as the temperature increasing gradually. Total fruit number, total fruit weight and total dry fruit weight was the highest at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature. Major free sugars of red pepper fruit were fructose and glucose. Free sugar content of red pepper according to the differences in harvesting times and in growth temperature showed a little differences. The yield of red pepper fruit at ambient $+2^{\circ}C$ temperature increased by 13% compared with the control. However, the yield of red pepper fruit at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ temperature decreased by 20% as compared to control. Non-marketable fruits (diseased fruit, malformed fruit and small sized fruit) increased as the temperature rised.

A recent assessment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projected that the global average surface temperature will increase by a value 1.5℃ from 2030 to 2052. In this study, we used a temperature gradient chamber that mimicked field conditions to evaluate the effect of increased air temperature on phenology, yield components, protein content, and oil content, to assess soybean growth. In 2017 and 2018, 'Deawonkong', 'Pungsannamulkong', and 'Deapungkong' cultivars were grown in three temperature gradient chambers. Four temperature treatment groups were established by dividing the rows along temperature regimes: ambient temperature + 1℃ (aT+1), ambient temperature + 2℃ (aT+2), ambient temperature + 3℃ (aT+3), ambient temperature + 4℃ (aT+4). Year, cultivar, and temperature treatments significantly affected yield components and seed yield. In 2017, the flowering stage of 'Deawon' and 'Pungsannamul' cultivars in the aT+4 group was delayed compared to the flowering stage of those in the aT+1 group. In 2018, the flowering stage of 'Deawon' and 'Pungsannamul' was delayed at all temperature gradients, owing to high temperature stress, whereas 'Deapung' was regularly flowering in 2017 and 2018. The duration of the grain filling period was six days shorter in 2018 than in 2017 because of high temperature stress. The total number of pods per ㎡ for 'Deawon' and 'Pungsannamul' was 48.8 and 41.5% lower in 2018 than in 2017, respectively, whereas 'Deapung' increased by 6.3%. The 100-seed weight of 'Deawon' and 'Deapung' was 29.2 and 32.1% lower, respectively. However, 'Pungsannamul' decreased by 14.7%. The protein and oil content was lower during the grain filling period in 2018 than in the same period in 2017 because of high temperature stress. In contrast, the oil content in 'Deapung' was higher in 2018 than in 2017. Our results showed that increased temperature during the grain filling period was significantly and negatively correlated with pod number, 100-seed weight, protein content, and oil content.
