Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Rib Misdiagnosed as Soft Tissue Tumor - A Case Report - (연부조직종괴로 오인된 늑골의 동맥류성 골낭종 - 증례 보고 -)

  • Aneurysmal bone cyst(ABC) is a benign lesion and generally occurs in the long bones and vertebral column. ABC of the rib is an uncommon entity. We reported a case of ABC originating in the left first rib. The patient was a 19-year-old woman and presented with palpable mass on the shoulder. Chest X ray and MRI showed a large expansile mass, with multiple cystic areas, arising from the left first rib and bulging out into retroclavicular and paravertebral soft tissue, so the lesion was initially misdiagnosed as a soft tissue malignant tumor destructing adjacent rib. On histological examination, the mass, which was surrounded by a peripheral band of mature trabecular bone, consisted of multiple anastomosing cavernous blood channels separated by fibrous septa that containing osteoid, myxochondroid material and osteoclast-type giant cells.

A study on dietary habits and food intakes in adults aged 50 or older according to depression status (50세 이상 성인과 노인의 우울여부에 따른 식습관 및 식품섭취상태에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to analyze the dietary habits and food intake status according to the prevalence of depression in adults. Methods: A total of 496 subjects, 224 men and 272 women aged 50 to 100 years were recruited from more than 13 cities in Korea. The questionnaires consisted of general characteristics, dietary life status, food intakes, the mean mini dietary assessment and satisfaction with food-related life questionnaire of the subjects to ask according to the degree of depression. Depression status was evaluated according to the Korean form of the Geriatric Depression Scale (K-GDS). Results: All subjects were divided into depression or normal groups; the prevalence of depression was 13.8% (male) and 23.9% (female). People aged 65 or older were more likely to have higher prevalence of depression and to be bereaved. People in the depression group had poor appetite, almost never dined-out, and ate alone. The food intake of miscellaneous cereals, beans, tofu, chicken/duck meat, cabbage, carrot/amber, fungi, apple, pear, strawberry, grapes, and banana was significantly higher in the normal group compared with the depression group. In particular, significantly higher intake of vegetables and fruits was observed in the normal group. In addition, subjects in the depression group ate more fatty meat and were more dissatisfied with food-related life than those in the normal group. Conclusion: The results of this study imply that the prevalence of depression may affect the dietary habits, food intake, and dietary behaviors in the older adult population.

The Effects of Chicken-Rearing Activity on Character, Emotion and Self-esteem of Middle School Students (닭 돌보기 활동이 중학생의 인성, 정서 및 자아존중감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether chicken-rearing activity is effective on the character, emotion and self-esteem of middle school students, as a pilot study for the development of an animal-assisted education program based on chicken-rearing activity. School was selected as the place where students have experience with raising animals before and no poultry farms were located near the school. The experimental group consisted of 11 students as the chicken-rearing group. The conducted activities were greeting chickens, cleaning henhouse, feeding them, and picking eggs up for five months. Character, emotion and self-esteem scales were used as test tools, and pre-testing and post-testing were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the study. Data collected were analyzed by using SPSS Win 25.0 statistical program. As a result, the character, emotional stability and self-esteem of middle school students who participated in chicken-rearing activity were improved. This study is meaningful in that the chicken-rearing activity proved to be effective for the character, emotion and self-esteem of middle school students and prepared an experimental case study for developing an animal-assisted education program based on chicken-rearing activity. It is expected to be useful as basic data of animal-assisted education for adolescents in school.

Awareness and Recognition of Tangpyeongchae by University Students in Chungnam Province (충남지역 대학생의 탕평채에 대한 인식 및 인지도)

  • This study evaluated the awareness and recognition of Tangpyeongchae by university students in Chungnam province. A total of 416 questionnaires were analyzed using the SPSS software program (version 21.0). The results were summarized as follows. The students compared of food and nutrition majors (59.4%) and non-food and nutrition majors (40.6%). This survey was performed from May 20 to Jun 8, 2015. More food and nutrition major students got better impression after eating Tangpyeongchae than non-food and nutrition majors. Among the students, 59.4% was not aware that Tangpyeongchae was derived from Tangpyeongchaek, and 57.7% didn't know that it was a Korean royal cuisine. Food and nutrition major students knew more of the background story for the dish than non-food and nutrition major students. The corresponding level of recognition for Tangpyeongchae as a dish representing the image of Korea with a combination of the 5 cardinal colors, known as obangsaek was high, at 4.27 and 4.17, respectively out of 5. Over 60% of the students answered Tangpyeongchae's image with the taste of Korea, followed by healthy food, harmony, nutritious food, diet food and tasty food. These results suggest that may have great potential for globalization as a traditional dish with the image and taste of Korea.

Literature Review of Tangpyeongchae in Cook Books Published in 1700~1960s (1700년대~1960년대 문헌에 나타난 탕평채의 문헌고찰)

  • This study was reviewed the changes in main ingredients, seasonings and cooking methods of Tangpyeongchae in Korean cook books and literatures published from the 1700s to the 1960s. The first published books about Tangpyeongchae were in Kosasibijib and Kyongdojabji, written in 1783 and the late 1700s, respectively. Tangpyeongchae, a representative traditional Korean dish that was royal cuisine offered at ritual events in the Chosun Dynasty, was called Cheongpochae in the royal court. It was a dish made by mixing cheongpomuk (mung bean gel), meat, dropwort, mung bean sprout, egg strips and laver. This dish has been seasoned with vinegar, soy sauce, black pepper, garlic, green onion, red pepper, salt, sugar, sesame oil and sesame salt since the early 1900s. Dropwort, egg strips, laver, pine nut (powder), red pepper powder, and red pepper threads were used as garnishes. Tangpyeongchae was made by mixing cheongpomuk with other ingredients and seasonings until the late 1800s. Since the early 1900s Tangpyeongchae has been seasoned first with other ingredients and then mixed cheongpomuk.

  • 바이오가스 생산은 현재 정부에서 추진하고 있는 저탄소 녹색성장으로 인해 더욱 그 가치의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 스웨덴 Scandinavian Biogas Fuel AB(SBF) 사의 바이오 가스 생산 기술을 이용함으로 소화효율을 개선하고 바이오가스 발생량을 극대화하였다. 전국 403개 공공하수처리시설 중 소화조가 설치된 처리시설은 65 개소이며 이중 57 개소에서 총 64개 소화조를 운영 중이다. 하지만 국내 소화조의 효율은 유입수질 저하, 운영, 관리 미숙으로 인해 전진국의 1/4 수준으로 에너지 이용률이 미미한 편이다. 환경부는 2010년부터 에너지 이용, 생산사용 확대, 추진을 위해 하수처리시설별 이용 가능한 에너지 잠재력의 종류, 양, 지역 내 수요자, 공급자 의 현황 규모 등을 정리해 2012년부터 에너지 이용사업 확대를 추진한다. SBF의 기술을 바탕으로 하수처리시설에서 들어오는 하루 슬러지 $1370m^3$와 음식물쓰레기 180t을 함께 처리하며 바이오가스 생산량을 더욱 늘렸다. 각 $7,000m^3$의 달걀모양(egg shape) 소화조 2개를 운영하며 생 슬러지와 음식물 쓰레기 처리 후 바로 소화조로 투입, 혐기 소화하는 방식이며 슬러지 최종처분방법은 탈수 후 소각된다. 반입되는 생 슬러지의 평균 TS 1.7%, VS 63% 이며 농축 후에는 평균 TS 9%, VS 75% 이다. 또 소화조로 들어가는 음식물 쓰레기는 평균 TS 8%, VS 85% 이며 소화 후 평균 TS 3.6% VS 59% 이다. 그리고 소화조의 pH는 7.3~7.8,유기산의 농도는 150mg/L~350mg/L, 가스발생량은 하루 평균 $26,500Nm^3$이며 소화효율은 평균 67%이다. 혐기성소화는 산소가 없는 무 산소 상태 에서 분해 가능한 유기물을 분해시켜 메탄으로 전환시키고 우리는 현재 이 가스를 소화조 가온에 사용하고, 판매하고 있다. 소화효율을 높이기 위하여 가온과 교반이 행해지는데 가온방식은 직접가온방식(증기주입식)과 간접가온방식(열교환방식)이 있다. 그중 우리는 간접가온방식을 채택하여 소화효율을 높였고 일반중온 혐기소화온도보다 약간 높은 $38^{\circ}C$로 운전한다. 그리고 일반적으로 알려진 교반방식인 가스교반, 기계교반, 이 둘은 병행한 교반이 아닌 독자적인 방법을 이용, 소화조 내의 슬러지가 정체되어 교반되지 않는 부분을 최소화 하였다. 이때 미생물이 투입되기 힘든 소화조 아래 쪽 으로도 고루분포 되어 슬러지를 이용 하게 되고 소화조 상하부의 온도차가 $1^{\circ}C$ 이하로 거의 완벽한 교반상태를 보여 줌 으로써 소화효율을 최대한으로 한다. 더욱이 소화일수 부족으로 인한 전반적 소화효율 저하가 발생하지 않도록 input과 output 조절을 통한 적정소화일수 20~25일을 최대한 맞추어 운전하여 소화조 설계용량의 평균 90%를 활용하고 있다.

An Evaluation of the Student Performance and Perception of the Food and Nutrition Subject in the Elementary School Curriculum in Incheon, Korea (실과의 식품영양 단원에 관한 교사 학생의 인지 및 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능간의 상관 연구 -인천직할시 공립국민학교를 중심으로-)

  • 본 연구는 국민학교 실과 과목의 식품 영양 단원에 관한 교사, 학생의 인지 및 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 평가를 위하여 71개 인천시내 공립 국민학교 4,5,6학년 교사 510명과 12개교학생 1,754명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통한 내용을 분석한 것으로 연구의 목적은 1)실과의 정해진 교육목표에 관한 교사의 인지정도 규명 2)식품, 영양 단원에서 교사가 중요하다고 인지하는 내용과 가르치기에 어려움을 느끼는 내용 규명 3)교사가 인지하는 식품영양 단원학습을 증진하기 위한 요소 4) 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용 5)본 단원 학습 후 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 정도 6)지식, 태도 기능간의 상호 상관관계 규명 등이며 그 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 교사들이 인지하는 실과의 정해진 교육목표는 거의 모두가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 2. 교사들이 인지하는 식품 영양 단원의 중요한 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이며, 가장 중요하지 않은 내용으로는 영양 필요량이었다. 또한, 지도에 어려움을 느끼는 내용은 영양 필요량, 조리준비, 식품구성/함유량 등이며 어려움을 느끼지 않는 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이었다. 3. 교사가 인지하는 단원 학습 증진을 위한 긍정적 요소는 적합한 실습설비와 자료, 시청가자료등이었고 부정적 요소는 남교사, 실험 실습이 필요한 부분은 숙제로 미루는 것 등이었다. 4. 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용으로는 간단한 음식 만들기, 영양소의 기능, 영양문제 등이었고, 쥬스나 차 준비, 조리연료, 부엌용구 사용법 등은 흥미를 느끼지 못하는 내용이었다. 5. 학생의 학업성취 중 지식은 4학년이 식품위생, 기초식품군이, 5학년은 알맞은 조리용구, 조리원리, 6학년은 여가활용의 뜻, 올바른 예절 등이 90% 이상 바르게 답하였고 5학년의 삶은 달걀의 화학적 변화, 감자의 주된 영양 등은 60%이하였다. 6 태도 테스트 결과는 5학년이 4,6학년보다 약간 높은정도(Mn=3.653) 였으나 기능테스트에서는 4학년이 5,6학년보다 약간 낮게 (Mn=3.0) 나타났다(구체적인 것은 본문 참조). 7, 4, 5, 6학년 모두 지식, 태도 기능 간에 정적 상관을 나타내었는데 특히 태도와 기능 사이에는 4학년 r=.7166, 5학년 r=.5175, 6학년 r=.6796을 나타내었고 지시과 태도(4학년 r=.1546, 5학년 r=.0872, 6학년 r=.2192)와 지식과 기능사이에서는 (4학년 r=.1631, 5학년 r=.0585, 6학년 r=.2521)태도와 기능간보다 약한 상관관계를 보였다.

The Condition of Production of Artificial Fruiting Body of Cordyceps militaris (Cordyceps militaris 인공자실체 형성조건)

  • To compare the morphological and cultural characteristics of Cordyceps militaris, forming conditions of artificial fruiting body production were investigated in this experiment. The stroma shapes of artificial fruiting body were confirmed to club and/or stick. However, both shapes were same color as a orange. Perithecia of stroma was semi-egg shape and was ranged from $30{\sim}90{\times}90{\sim}130\;{\mu}m$ and it's asci was narrowly cylindric. Ascospore of perithecia was belong to filiform and multiseptate. The conidia of C. militaris was centurally grown and shaped with globose, long clavate type, floccose, centrally raised during anamorph stage. When it was cultured between glass and PP bottle, production of artificial fruiting body, pinheading ratio and total yield were higher in PP bottle. The optimum illumination was 1,000 lx for the those production. The culture medium of barley, wheat and hulled rice showed higher artificial fruiting body compared to that of silkworm. Pinheading and yield of it's isolates was decreased at more than three subsequent transculture.

Effect of oral administration of egg yolk on oxidation and esterification of hepatic fatty acid in rats (랫드에서 난황의 경구투여가 간 지방산의 산화, 에스터화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the mechanism of metabolic partitioning between oxidization and esterification of liver fatty acids synthesized and secreted by the liver from egg yolk-fed laboratory rats. Animals were divided into four groups and orally administered egg yolk daily for 30 days: CON (control group, 1.0 g of saline solution), T1 (1.0 g of pork belly oil), T2 (1.0 g of egg yolk), and T3 (1.0 g of pork belly oil and 1.0 g of egg yolk, alternatively each week). The accumulation rate of [14C]-labelled lipid in liver was lowest in T2 among all treatments (P<0.05). Phospholipid secretion was higher in T2 than other treatments (P<0.05). The triglycerol secretion was highest in T1 and higher in the order of CON, T3, and T2 (P<0.05). Metabolic partitioning rate of phospholipid from total glycerolipid was highest in T2, followed by T3, CON and T1 (P<0.05). The 14CO2 production from total glycerolipid was the highest in T2 and showed a high oxidation rate compared to CON, T1, and T3 (P<0.05). Metabolic partitioning of glycerolipid from the liver decreased in triglycerol of T2 compared to CON, T1, and T3, whereas phospholipids of T2 increased (P<0.05).

The Effect of Cone Protective Net and the Morphological Variation of Cone and Seed of Korea Rare Endemic Pinus pumila Regel (희귀수종 눈잣나무의 구과보호망 효과 및 구과와 종자의 형태적 변이)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of cone protective net and the variation of cone and seed characteristics of a unique and rare dwarf stone pine (Pinus pumila Regel) population in Mt. Seorak which is in the southern peripheral of South Korea. Iron protective net (50 mesh, 25 ${\times}$ 25 cm) was effective in reducing birds and rodents damage to conelet, thereby it was possible to safely collect seed genetic resources. Early July was observed to be the most appropriate season to cover conelet with Iron protective net. P. pumila have ovoid-triangle shaped, wingless seeds and indehiscent cones, seeds dissemination is mainly by the hoarding behavior of nutcrackers and rodents. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences among individuals within population, and the mean characteristics of the species were 35.3 mm, 25.6 mm, 1.38, 6.6 g and 39.3 ea in the cone length, cone width, cone index, cone weight and in number of seeds per cone, respectively. Coefficients of variations in seed weight and number of seeds per cone were relatively high (21.7%, 21.5%, respectively) compared to other traits. Based on the correlation analysis between cone characteristics and seed characteristics, the length of cone and seed showed a significant positive correlation with the seed size and the seed weight, but the width and thickness of seed showed a negative correlation with the number of seeds per cone.
