In foreign countries, the impotance of quality assurance (QA) is increasing, whereas QA evaluation standards are not established properly in Korea. Thus this study was conducted to suggest improved QA evaluation standards and methods by studying/comparing/analyzing the literature in both Korea and foreign countries and prove its suitability through simulated evaluation. result of research in south korea, much check list using the evaluation method subjective, the evaluation of accuracy and reproducibility is meausred in the number of missing. Therefore, attempts to present a clear reference evaluation and objective way to solve the problem, examined the accuracy and reproducibility and 10times of measurement. The results of the simulated evaluation satisfied both proposed evaluation standards and methods. However the QA evaluation standards and methods for the items that are implemented only in Korea and high-contrast spatial resolution could have been established. In this regard, there is a need of further studies on the establishment of QA evaluation standards and methods that suits Korean situation.
We invented the newly developed Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy(F.S.R.T) system using combined techniques of couch mounting and pedestal mounting system. Head fixation frame consists of a milled alluminium alloy(duralumin) and is placed to the couch. This frame immobilized patient head using the dental bite, 3.2 mm frontal and occipital thermoplastic mask. To evaluate the coordinate of target isocenter, Brown-Revert-Walls C.T localizer can be attached to this frame. And also, we developed the frame mounting system by developing the modification of pedestal mounting system. This system is fixed to couch floor and can be used to evaluate the isocenteric accuracy of gantry, couch and collimator in Q.A procedure. In order to measure the relocation accuracy, the acrylic phantom and the accurate pointers have been made. The repositioning of the targets in the phantom were estimated by comparing C.T coordinates and E.C.L portal films taken with anterior-posterior and right-left direction. From the results of experiments, the average distance errors between the target isocenter and its mean position were 0.71$\pm$0.19 for lateral, 0.45$\pm$0.15 for inferior-superior, 0.63$\pm$0.18 for anterior-posterior. And the maximum distance error was less than 1.3 mm. The new head fixation frame and frame mounting system were non-invasive, accurately relocatable, easy to use, very light and well tolerable by the results of phantom tests. The major advantage of using this frame mounting system is complete access to any point in the Patients cranium especially posterior direction
The use of tin filters as a way to reduce the medical radiation in computed tomography (CT). However, due to the changed X-ray spectrum with the use of tin filters, disease diagnosis could be affected because it appears as images of different impressions from previous images. Therefore, this study evaluates the changes in images when using tin filter and high pitch in chest low-dose CT. In this study, images were acquired in groups of three for comparison. Group 1 did not apply to tin filter, and used the existing pitch 0.8. Group 2 used a tin filter, pitch 0.8, Group 3 used a tin filter, and pitch 2.5. To compare the image quality, the natural image quality evaluator (NIQE) and the blind/referenceless image quality evaluator (BRISQUE) were used among the blind quality evaluation factors depended on a no-reference basis. As a result, the NIQE values were low in the order of Group 1, Group 3, and Group 2. BRISQUE values were low in the order of Group 3, Group 2 and Group 1. This study confirms the superiority of images of tin filter and high pitch techniques in chest low-dose CT, which is considered to be a fundamental study for acquiring accurate images of patients with difficult breathing control.
One of the typical methods for lowering radiation dose while maintaining image quality of computed tomography (CT) is the use of model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR). This study is to evaluate the image quality by adjusting the strength of the advanced modeled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE), which is well known as a representative model of MBIR. The study was conducted using phantom, and CT images were obtained while adjusting the strength of ADMIRE in units of 1 to 5. Quantitative evaluation includes noise levels using coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR), as well as natural image quality evaluation (NIQE) and blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator (BRISQUE). As a result, in both noise level and blind quality evaluation results, the higher the strength of ADMIRE, the better the results were derived. In particular, it was confirmed that COV and CNR were improved 1.89 and 1.75 times at ADMIRE 5 compared to ADMIRE 1, respectively, and NIQE and BRISQUE were proved to be improved 1.35 and 1.22 times at ADMIRE 5 compared to ADMIRE 1, respectively. In conclusion, this study was proved that the reconstruction strength of ADMIRE had a great influence on the noise level and overall image quality evaluation of CT images.

In this study, a finite element analysis and a vibration test were performed to estimate the natural frequencies of mouse femurs with osteoporosis. Three groups of the femurs include the osteoporotic group, the treated group and the normal group. For the finite element analysis, the micro finite element model of the femur was reconstructed using the Micro-CT images and the Voxel mesh generation algorithm. In the vibration test, the natural frequencies were measured by the mobility test. from the results, the averaged natural frequencies in the osteoporotic group were the highest, followed by those in the treated group. The finite element models were validated within 15% errors by comparing the natural frequencies in the finite element analysis with those in the vibration test. The developed Micro-CT system, the Yokel mesh generation algorithm, the presented finite element analysis, and vibration test could be useful for the investigation of the structural change of the bone tissue, and the diagnosis and the treatment in the osteoporosis.
This study was aimed to evaluate the absorbed dose in brain of dental radiography. For radiographic exposure, PLD(photoluminescence dosimetry) chips placed in Rando phantom to measurement the absorbed dose to pituitary gland, orbit, maxillary sinus and submandibular glands, thyroid gland, esophagus. Equipments were used Kodak 2200, Kodak 8000C dental radiographic systems and computed tomography(Lightspeed VCT). The absorbed doses were measured at the same exposure parameters and distance by the clinical factor(kV, mA, sec). The result were as follows ; The absorbed dose for intra-oral radiography were 0.02~2.47cGy, the greatest absorbed dose was 2.47cGy for thyroid gland in maxillary right molar projection. the lowest adsorbed dose was 0.02cGy for submandibular glands in lower anterior projection. The absorbed dose for extra-oral radiography were 0.36~3.44cGy of cephalometric method, 0.14~12.82cGy of panoramic method, 8.17~253.63cGy of computed tomography, the greatest adsorbed dose was 253.63cGy for submandibular glands in maxillary CT scan. the lowest adsorbed dose was 0.14cGy for orbit in panoramic method. As a result, extra-oral radiography was measured more than intra-oral radiography. In particular, method which used computed tomography was measured more than 100 times than intra-oral radiography highly. Therefore, you must show a guideline in extra-oral radiography and an effort to reduce absorbed dose is demanded.
A cone-beam computed tomography (CT) system for a small animal has been widely used in the bio-medical application. This paper introduced simple methods for evaluating a cone-beam CT system using a simple tungsten wire phantom of 10{$\mu}m$ diameter and a water phantom. Slice images and three-dimensional tomography images were obtained through 360 projection views per one sample rotation under stable X-ray tube conditions for a long running time. The cone-beam CT system at a position of a 1.07 magnification showed a spatial frequency of 13.78 lp/mm ($36.2{\mu}m$ spatial resolution) and gave a CNR of 10.33 and a S/N of 5.87 under a tube voltage of 80kV.

Purpose : The purpose of the current study was to report the results of curettage and en bloc excision as well as to introduce how to excise the nidus percutaneously with Halo-mill. Material and Methods : Twenty patients(14 men and 6 women) were evaluated, who had operative treatments after diagnosed as osteoid osteoma from March 1990 to January 1998. These patients ranged in age from 7 to 42 years(average: 20.8 years). Locations were 9 femurs, 6 tibias, 2 vertebras, 1 ulna, 1 maxilla and 1 skull. Nine femoral lesions included 5 proximal metaphysis, 2 neck and 2 diaphysis, while 5 tibial lesions included 3 diaphysis, 1 proximal metaphysis and 1 distal metaphysis. We used simple radiography, bone scan, CT and MRI for the accurate diagnosis and localization. As for surgical treatments, while excision and curettage had to need open-exposure of lesion, the percutaneous excision of nidus did not need openexposure : guided Halo-mill into K-wire inserted to nidus under image intensifier. Results : Simple radiography showed that 10 cases had typical nidus and others had only cortical sclerosis. Bone scan was performed at 14 cases and all had hot uptake except one case. We used CT in 10 cases and MRI in 4 cases as diagnostic methods, of which 1 case didn't reveal nidus at CT. Surgical treatment consisted of 6 curettages, 11 excisions, 2 percutaneous excisions with halo-mill and 1 total elbow arthroplasty. We used 7mm sized Halo-mill. During the follow-up period, all patient relieved symptoms and there were no recurrences. All had histologically typical findings except one which had hyperostosis without nidus. Conclusion : Complete removal of the nidus is the most important factor in the treatment. We could excise the nidus percutaneously in 2 cases with the minimal injury to surrounding soft tissues. If we could evaluate the precise location, size of nidus and percutaneous acccesibility, the percutaneous excision of nidus with Halo-mill could be an alternative method as a treatment of osteoid osteoma.
We evaluated the accuracy of a patient setup error correction due to reference image quality for a 2D-2D matching process. Digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRRs) generated by use of the Pinnacle3 and the Eclipse for various regions of a humanoid phantom and a patient for different CT slice thickness were employed as a reference images and kV X-ray Images from the On-Board Imager were registered to the reference DRRs. In comparison of the DRRs and profiles, DRR image quality was getting worse with an increase of CT image slice thickness. However there were only slight differences of setup errors evaluation between matching results for good and poor reference DRRs. Although DRR image quality did not strongly affect to the 2D-2D matching accuracy, there are still potential errors for matching procedure, therefore we recommend that DRR images are needed to be generated with less than 3mm slice thickness for 2D-2D matching.
PET (positron emission tomography) permits the investigation of physiological and biochemical processes in vivo. The accuracy of quantifying PET data is affected by its finite spatial resolution, which causes partial volume effects. In this study, we developed a method for partial volume correction using Hoffman phantom PET and MR data, and applied various FWHM (full width at half maximum) levels. We also applied this method to PET images of normal controls and tested for the possibility of clinical application. $^{18}$ F-PET Hoffman phantom images were co-registered to MR slices. The gray matter and white matter regions were then segmented into binary images. Each binary image was convolved by 4, 8, 12, 16 mm FWHM levels. These convolved images of gray and white matter were merged corresponding to the same level of FWHM. The original PET images were then divided by the convolved binary images voxel-by-voxel. These corrected PET images were multiplied by binary images. The corrected PET images were evaluated by analyzing regions of interests, which were drawn on the gray and white matter regions of the original MR image slices. We calculated the ratio of white to gray matter. We also applied this method to the PET images of normal controls. On analyzing the corrected PET images of Hoffman phantom, the ratios of the corrected images increased more than that of the uncorrected images. With the normal controls, the ratio of the corrected images increased more than that of the uncorrected images. The ratio increase of the corrected PET images was lower than that of the corrected phantom PET images. In conclusion, the method developed for partial volume correction in PET data may be clinically applied, although further study may be required for optimal correction.
