  • The model of load-strain relations for CFT stub columns subjected to centrally compressive axial load is shown in this paper. The modified model of concrete and steel is obtained by using the experimental data and the formulas of that is based on the foreign researcher's result. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the basic data for evaluating the behavior of CFT stub columns to be variable to the strength of concrete and steel.

A Study on Compressive Strength of Built-up H Shaped Columns Fabricated with HSA800 High Performance Steels (건축구조용 고성능강(HSA800) 용접 H형단면 기둥의 압축강도에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, high performance(strength) steels have been utilized to structural materials in buildings and bridges with the demand for high-rise and long-span of main structures. This paper is a series of basic study for the design specification of structural members using high performance steel, material properties of high performance rolled steel building structures; material properties of HSA800 steel was compared with the requirements of Korean Standards(KS) for HSA800. Welded H-shape stub columns with variables of width-to-thickness ratios are planned in order to investigate the local buckling behaviors and check the current design limit of width-to-thickness ratio and uniaxial compressive tests are carried out. In addition, the buckling behaviors of stub columns obtained finite element analysis were compared with those of test results.

Distyly and Population Size of Abeliophyllum distichum Nakai, an Endemic Plant in Korea (한국 특산식물 미선나무의 이화주성(Distyly) 및 개체군 크기)

  • Abeliophyllum distichum Nakai, a rare plant with distylous characteristics, is native to certain parts of the Korean Peninsula. It is registered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as a globally endangered plant. This study was conducted to establish an appropriate local conservation management plan suitable for future A. distichum populations by comparing and analyzing the flowering characteristics and population size according to distyly based on the results of quantitative surveys in 14 regions, including 8 areas with native populations of A. distichum and 6 natural monument populations. The number of individuals appearing in each population group was surveyed, and the flowering individuals were identified by style as being either pin or thrum flower types as they were being examined and recorded on the site. In total, 13,130 individuals of A. distichum (7,003 flowering and 6,127 non-flowering individuals) were recorded, but the balance of the number of pin- and thrum-flowered individuals in each population was not significant (p<0.05), indicating an imbalanced state. In particular, the Yeongdong (YD) population was very disproportionate compared to other populations, suggesting that its genetic diversity was low and the possibility of inbreeding was high. The average flowering and fruiting rates by management unit were much higher in the natural monument populations (89.2% and 55.3%, respectively) than in the natural habitat populations (39.0% and 8.5%, respectively). It may be due to a difference in reproductive growth resulting from light inflow into the forest caused by the upper crown closure. The area of occupation (AOO) of A. distichum on the Korean Peninsula covered an area of 23,224.5 m2. Although the natural monument population was smaller than the natural habitat population, its density was higher, likely as a result of the periodic management of natural monument populations, where the installation of protective facilities in certain areas restricts population spread. Conservation of A. distichum populations requires removing the natural monument populations suspected of anthropogenic and genetic disturbances and expanding the conservation priority population by designating new protected areas. Although the habitats of natural monument populations are managed by the Cultural Heritage Administration and local governments, there are no agencies that are responsible for managing natural habitat populations. Therefore, institutional improvement in the overall management of A. distichum should be prioritized.

  • 잔향음은 시변동성이 존재하는 유동성 경계면 잔향음(해수면, 체적)과 시변동성이 존재하지 않는 고정 경계면 잔향음(해저면)으로 분류된다. 그러나 고정 경계면 잔향음으로 알려진 해저면 잔향음에서도 단주기적 시변동성이 존재하고 있음이 여러 실측자료에서 관측되고 있다. 본 연구는 시변동성의 원인을 파악하고자 실험실에서 부유성 퇴적물의 농토에 따른 후방산란 신호를 측정하였다. 또한 동해에서 측정된 시간에 따른 잔향음신호(80kHz)와 ADCP(4.2MHz) 자료를 비교하여 천해에서의 체적 산란체의 변동이 잔향음 신호에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 확인하였다. 아울러 본 논문에서는 잔향음 신호의 단주기적 시변동성에 의한 잡음 성분을 제거하여 표준화된 잔향음 신호를 획득하기 위한 방법으로 Low Rank Approximation(LRA)을 제안하였다. 이 기법은 특이해 분해(Singular Value Decomposition, SVD)를 수행하여 실측 자료 행렬로부터 고유치(Eigenvalue)과 고유벡터(Eigenvector)를 추출한 후, 추출된 고유치를 제한적으로 사용하여 근사화 하는 기법으로 시변동성 신호를 제거하는데 효율적인 방법이다.

Studies on Heterostylism, Fertility, and Embryological Characteristics in Buckwheat. Fagopyrum esculentum (메밀의 이형예현상과 수정력 발생학적 특징에 관한 연구)

  • Fifty-five local collections of buck wheat, Fagopyrum esculentum, were investigated their ratios of long-styled (LS) and short-styled (SS) flowers, fertility, meiosis of megaspore and microspore mother cell, female and male gametogenesis, and egg apparatus in accordance with the sowing seasons (spring, summer), altitudes (20m, 50-100m, 300m), and parent style types (L, S). Also they were embryologically investigated the fertility, fertilizing phenomenon and proembryogenesis by the legitimate and illegitimate pollination. There were no differences in the ratios of long-styled and short-5tyled flowers along with altitudes, but more irregularness was observed in plain area than that in the mountaineous or coastal area. LS versus SS ratios by sowing seasons were significantly separated into 1 : 1 in the summer sowing (P 0.1), but they were irregularly separated in the spring sowing. The segregating ratios by parent style types showed more number of short-styled flower in the spring sowing, and were statistically seperated into 1 : 1 in the summer sowing (P 0.25), regardless to parent style types. In the artificial legitimate union, the seed setting rates of the summer sowing (59-61%) were much higher than those of the spring sowing (about 30%), but in the artificial illegitimate union the seed setting rates were only fructified about 0.8-1.8% in the spring sowing. The seed setting rates in accordance with flowering stages were larger in turn early, middle, late, in the summer sowing. The grain number and grain weight per plant of short-styled flower were more than those of long-styled one regardless to style types. The 1,000 grain weight of long-styled flower was heavier than that of short-styled one in large grain, but it was lighter than that of short-styled flower in small or medium grain. The percentage of normal female and male gametogenesis in the summer sowing were higher than those in the spring sowing. The ovule was atropous and two polar nuclei were a synkarion before flowering. The pollens germinated at 30 minuts after pollination and the pollen tube grew continually and penetrated into micropyle at 1.5-2 hours and the two male nuclei fertilized with egg nucleus at 3 -5 hours after pollination. Flertilizing times in summer were shorter than in autumn. The fertilized egg was divided in a small apical cell toward the interior of the embryo sac and a large basal cell toward the micropyle cell at 15-24 hours after pollination, and division times in summer were shorter than in autumn. The proembryo began the embryogenesis at 7-8 days and formed itself into the perfect embryo at 15 days after pollination.

  • Recently, high-performance steels have been increasingly used for structural materials in buildings and bridges with the demand for high-rise and long-span of main structures. This paper offers a series of basic study for the design specification of structural members using high performance steel, that is material properties of HSA800 (High-performance rolled steel for building structures). Built-up square tube stub columns with variables of width-to-thickness ratios are planned as a parametric study in order to investigate the local buckling behaviors and check the current design limit of width-to-thickness ratio. In addition, the buckling behaviors of stub columns obtained finite element (FE) analysis were compared with those from experimental tests. The verified FE model was used for parametric study and checked applicability of high-strength steel on current design specification.

Bucking Behavior of Slender Reinforced High-Strength Concrete Columns (고강도 철근콘크리트 기둥의 좌굴 거동에 관한 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 철근콘크리트 기둥의 거동을 예측하기 위하여 층상화 방법을 이용한 유한요소 해석방법이 제안되었다. 콘크리트의 강도와 철근비가 기둥의 극한강도와 거동에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여 세장비가 10, 60, 100인 정방형 단면(80$\times$80mm)을 갖는 30개의 기둥에 대하여 실험을 수행하였다. 이때, 콘크리트의 강도는 25.5, 63.5, 86.2MPa로, 철근비는 1.98, 3.95%로 변화시켰다. 또한, 단부조건은 양단힌지로 하고, 편심량은 기둥은 양단에서 같은 방향으로 24mm로 동일하게 하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 해석방법은 철근콘크리트 기둥의 거동을 잘 예측하며, ACI의 모멘트 확대계수법은 고강도 콘크리트 장주에 대해서는 안전측이 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 콘크리트의 강도가 기둥의 극한강도에 미치는 영향은 기둥의 세장비가 증가할수록 감소하였으며, 콘크리트의 강도가 커질수록 세장기둥의 좌굴파괴 가능성은 증가하였다. 또한, 철근비를 증가시킬 경우, 기둥의 축력이 최대가 될 때의 모멘트가 증가되었으며, 기둥의 극한강도 증가량은 단주보다는 장주에서 더 크게 나타났다. 철근비 증가에 의해 나타나는 이러한 기둥의 극한강도 증가량과 모멘트 증가량은 콘크리트의 강도가 커질수록 증대되었다.

STUDIES ON THE DIMORPHISM OF THE PERSICARIA SENTICOSA NAKAI (Persicaria senticosa Nakai의 Dimorphism에 관한 연구)

Bot. 3(1) 16-25 During his researches regarding the morphological and physiological properties of Polygonecenae, the author has found that the species, Persicaria senticosa, aiso, besides the heterostylous plants of Polygonum family, Fagopyrum esculentum, and Persicaria japonica which was recently verified by the author as dimorphic, shows the typical floral structure of heterostylism, the description of which is not found in taxonomical works. Further research on this species have revealed that this plant, despite pressessing characteristic structural dimorphism, does not exhibit even the slight signs of heterostlylous properties physiologically. This is a deviation from the usual behavior of normal heterostylous plants. What is interesting is the fact that the physiological behavior of this species is quite contrary to that of P. japonica which is considered to be the most highly specialized dimorphic plant. Thus it is assurred that if some species of this family had taken a heterostylic form in its course of development from autogamy to allogamy, P. seoticosa would be the least differentiated type of dimorphic forms among the three heterostylous plants, including buckwheat, of this family. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows: 1) P. senticosa has two forms of flower, one, long style-short stamened; the other, short style-long stamened. Not only conspicuous is this primary difference, but the secondary difference, such as pollen grain size, is noticeable between long and short styled individuals, thus expressing structurally the definite trait of a dimorphic plant. 2) Structural alteration of floral parts towards dimorphism has preceeded far less in comparison with those of the P. japonica and F. esculentum. 3) Elaborate studies on fertility reveal that this species does not show the slightest sign of the physiological characteristics of dimorphic plants. In other words, regardless of the modes of combinations, legitimate and illegitimate, fertilization and fruit setting flourish unimpaired. 4) Growth of pollen tubes apparently parallels the results in the fertility, tubes reaching ovary approximately 30 minutes after pollination both in legitimate and illegitimate combinations. Pollen tube penetration appears to be comparatively rapid. 5) A slight difference in the growth of pollen tube seems to exist between legitimate and illegitimate combinations, legitimate union giving slightly faster tube penetration. 6) In the present experiment it was clarified that P. senticosa, known to possess one form of flower in taxonomy, is in reality dimorphic plant having two of flowers. Although this species is definitely heterostylous in floral structure, physiological evidence and pollen tube behavior show that the differentiation of this plant toward the dimorphism has apparently proceeded slightly except for some parts of floral organ. In ordinary heterostylous plants it is a matter of common occurrence that when illegitimately cmbined, there is poor or no fertility, Contrary to the universal property of heterostylous plants, no difference is observed in the fertility and pollen tube growth between the legitimate and illegitimate combinations in the case of P. senticosa. Compared to the P. japonica and F. esculentum, which are supposed to have undergone high degree of dimorphic differentiation, it is an unavoidable conclusion that P. senticosa has not yet developed as a heterostyle plant except for some of its floral parts. If P. japonica is assumed to be the most differentiated type of hetenostylous plant, thenthe P. senticosa would be regarded as the primitive, retaining still the self-fertile nature so common to the Polygonum genus. In nature, however, this plant has a better chance to be pollinated legitimately owing to the two forms of flowers than to be pollinated illegitimately. A Study on the Local Buckling Strength of Stainless Steel 304 (스테인리스 304 강재의 국부좌굴에 관한 연구)

  • Current steel-framed building design codes are based on theoretical and experimental researches on the conventional structural steel. However, the yield phenomenon of austenitic stainless steel, which is characterized by continuous yielding, is quite different from that of conventional structural steel. The offset strength, which should determine the design strength, may affect the limits of width-thickness ratio of current design codes. Stub column test results showed that the limits of width-thickness ratio satisfied both ASD and LRFD codes when 0.2% offset strength was regarded as design strength. In addition, the local buckling strengths of all stainless steel stub columns did not decrease rapidly compared with those of conventional structural steel columns, even though the width-thickness ratio exceeded the design limit.
