In this study, hindered amine-grafted graphene oxide (HA-GO) with antioxidant properties was prepared and incorporated into Nafion-based composite membranes as an effective filler material for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell applications. HA-GO was synthesized via a ring-opening reaction between amine groups in 4-amino-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethyl piperidine and epoxy groups on the surface of GO. Nafion-based composite membranes containing different weight contents of HA-GO were fabricated to compare the polymer electrolyte membrane properties with those of the pure Nafion membrane. The composite membranes with HA-GO were found to have better mechanical properties, chemical stability, and proton conductivity than the pure Nafion membrane. In particular, the conductivity retention behavior confirmed by the decrease in proton conductivity after Fenton's test of the composite membranes was better than that of the pure Nafion membrane due to the incorporation of HA-GO with effective antioxidant properties.

In this study, PTMSP[poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne)]/PDMS[poly(dimethylsioxane)]-NaY zeolite and PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membranes were made to incorporate zeolite into PTMSP/PDMS graft copolymer in order to improve the selectivity and thermal stability, the drop of permeability by physical aging effect during long period of time for the PTMSP membrane. To investigate the physico-chemical characteristics of composite membranes, the analytical methods such as FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, TGA, SEM, and GPC have been utilized. The gas permeability and selectivity properties of $H_2$ and $N_2$ were evaluated. The permeability of the PTMSP/PDMS-NaY zeolite and PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membranes than PTMSP/PDMS graft copolymer membrane increased, increased as zeolite content increased. On the contrary, the selectivity ($H_2/N_2$) of the composite membranes decreased as zeolite content increased. PTMSP/PDMS-NaA zeolite composite membrane showed better permeability and separation factor than PTMSP/PDMS-NaY zeolite composite membrane.
Recently, there are many efforts focused on development of more economical non-fluorinated membranes for PEMFCs (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells). In this study, sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (sPEEK) membrane reinforced with poly imide was made to enhance of membrane durability. In order to test durability of single (un-reinforced) membrane and reinforced membrane MEA (Membrane and Electrode Assembly), degradation accelerated stress test was used. Before and after degradation, I-V polarization curve, hydrogen crossover current, electrochemical surface area, membrane resistance and charge transfer resistance were measured. As a result of experiments, hydrogen crossover current of reinforced MEA was lower than that of single MEA, therefor durability of reinforced MEA was higher than that of single MEA. There was not especially short phenomena in reinforced MEA after degradation accelerated stress test.
The PDMS-NaYzeolite composite membranes were prepared by adding 1~40 wt% NaYzeolite to PDMS. In order to investigate the characteristics of these membranes, we used the analytical methods such as FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, and SEM. The permselectivity of $H_2$ and $N_2$ gases through the composite membranes was studied as a function of NaYzeolite contents. The permeability and selectivity ($H_2/N_2$) of PDMS membrane increased as the gas permeation pressure increased. The permeability of the PDMS-NaYzeolite composite membranes increased when 1~10 wt% NaYzeolite was added, and then decreased at higher wt% as NaYzeolite content increased. The selectivity ($H_2/_2$) of PDMS-NaYzeolite composite membranes decreased when 1~2 wt% NaYzeolite was added, and then increased as NaYzeolite content increased. As the $H_2$ permeability increased, the selectivity ($H_2/N_2$) of PDMS-NaYzeolite composite membranes decreased at 0~2 wt% and 10~40 wt% NaYzeolite contents, increased at 2~10 wt% NaYzeolite content.

The oxygen electrode of a biosensor needs enzyme immobilized membrane and a dialysis membrane to measure the oxygen concentration that remains after an enzyme reacts with its substrate. Accodingly, a single-layer PVA laminated CTA/PCL membrane was developed as an oxygen biosensor electrode. The enzymes were immobilized on a cellulose triacetate/polycarprolactone membrane using the 1,1'-carbonyl diimidazole(CDI) method, and then laminated with polyvinyl alcohol, aldehyde and acid. The alcohol oxidase and PVA laminated CTA/PCL membrane was tested with various concentration of enzyme substrates using a Yellow Springs Instrument(YSI) oxygen sensor. Under 5-10mmol substrates produced $0.37{\sim}0.83{\mu}A$(r=0.995) currents, and ater 8 weeks the glucose oxidase activity remained at about 56%, while the other activities remained very low. A SEM indicated a smooth surface and tightly attached PVA on the enzyme-immobilized CTA/PCL membranes.
Potassium channels play an important role in regulating vascular smooth muscle tone. Four types of $K^+$ channels areknown to be expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells, and maxi $Ca^{2+}-activated\;K^+$ channel $(BK_{Ca})$ is a dominant type of $K^+$ channels in these cells. Because total ginseng saponins and ginsenoside $Rg_3$ cause vasodilation with unclear mechanisms, we hypothesized that total ginseng saponins and ginsenoside $Rg_3$ induce vasodilation via activation of maxi $Ca^{2+}-activated\;K+$ channels. Whole-cell BKe. currents were voltage-dependent with half maximum activation at -14 mV, and the currents were sensitive to nanomolar ChTX and millimolar TEA. External application of total ginseng saponins increased the anlplitude of the whole-cell BKe. current in a concentration-dependent manner. Single-channel analysis indicates that total ginseng saponins caused the channel opening for a longer period of time. Ginsenoside $Rg_3$ increased the amplitude of whole-cell $K_{Ca}$ currents without affecting voltage dependence of the currents and increased single-channel open time. Hence, the results suggest that ginseng saponin-induced vasodilation may be due to activation of $K_{Ca}$.
