Large volume of $6{\times}6{\times}12mm^3$ CdZnTe ${\gamma}$-ray detector was fabricated with CdZnTe single crystals grown by Traveling Heater Method (THM) to evaluate the energy resolution of 662 keV in $^{137}Cs$. Hole tailing effect which originated from the large mobility difference in electron and hole degrade energy resolution of radiation detector and its effects become more severe for a large volume detectors. Generally, single carrier collection technique is very useful method to remove/minimize hole tailing effect and thereby improvement in energy resolution. Virtual Frisch-grid technique is also one of single charge collection method through weighting potential engineering and it is very simple and easily applicable one. In this paper, we characterized CZT detector grown by THM and evaluated the effectiveness of virtual Frisch-grid technique for a high energy gamma-ray detector. The proper position and width of virtual Frisch-grid was determined from electric field simulation using ANSYS Maxwell ver. 14.0. Energy resolution of 2.2% was achieved for the 662 keV ${\gamma}$-peak of $^{137}Cs$ with virtual Frisch-grid CdZnTe detector.
The purpose of this study was to estimate the fracture resistance of commercially available ceramic brackets to torsional force exerted from arch wires and to evaluate the characteristics of bracket fracture. Methods: Lingual root torque was applied to maxillary central incisor brackets with 0.022-inch slots by means of a $022\;{\times}\;028-inch$ stainless steel arch wire. A custom designed apparatus that attached to an Instron was used to test seven types of ceramic brackets (n = 15). The torque value and torque angle at fracture were measured. In order to evaluate the characteristics of failure, fracture sites and the failure patterns of brackets were examined with a Scanning Electron Microscope. Results: Crystal structure and manufacturing process of ceramic brackets had a significant effect on fracture resistance. Monocrystalline alumina (Inspire) brackets showed significantly greater resistance to torsional force than polycrystalline alumina brackets except InVu. There was no significant difference in fracture resistance during arch wire torsional force between ceramic brackets with metal slots and those without metal slots (p > 0.05). All Clarity brackets partially fractured only at the incisal slot base and the others broke at various locations. Conclusion: The fracture resistance of all the ceramic brackets during arch wire torsion appears to be adequate for clinical use.
This study has been performed Thermal Shock test for analyze the cause of Power drop in PV(Photovoltaic) Module. Thermal Shock test condition was performed with temperature range from $-40^{\circ}C{\sim}85^{\circ}C$. One cycle time is 30min. which are consist of low and high temperature 15min. each other. The test was performed with total 500cycles. EL, I-V were conducted every 100cycle up to 500cycles. Mono Cell resulted in 8% Power drop rates in Bare Cell and 9% in Solar Cell. In the case of Multi Cell resulted in 6% Power drop rates in Bare Cell and 13% in Solar Cell. After Thermal Shock test, Solar Cell's Power drop resulted from surface damages, but in the case of Bare Cell's Power drop had no surface damages. Therefore, Bare Cell's Power drop was confirmed as according to leakage current increase by analysis of Fill Factor after Thermal Shock test. Also, Solar Cell's Power drop rates are higher than that of Bare Cell because of surface damages and consuming electric power increase. From now on, it should be considered that analyzed the reasons of Fill Factor decrease and irregular Power drop in PV module and Cell level using cross section, various conditions and test methods.
Photovoltaic (PV) technology permits the transformation of solar light directly into electricity. For the last five years, the photovoltaic sector has experienced one of the highest growth rates worldwide (over 30% in 2006) and for the next 20 years, the average production growth rate is estimated to be between 27% and 34% annually. Currently the cost of electricity produced using photovoltaic technology is above that for traditional energy sources, but this is expected to fall with technological progress and more efficient production processes. A large scale production of solar grade silicon material of high purity could supply the world demand at a reasonably lower cost. A shift from crystalline silicon to thin film is expected in the future. The technical limit for the conversion efficiency is about 30%. It is assumed that in 2030 thin films will have a major market share (90%) and the share of crystalline cells will have decreased to 10%. Our research at Sungkyunkwan University of South Korea is confined to crystalline silicon solar cell technology. We aim to develop a technology for low cost production of high efficiency silicon solar cell. We have successfully fabricated silicon solar cells of efficiency more than 16% starting with multicrystalline wafers and that of efficiency more than 17% on single crystalline wafers with screen printing metallization. The process of transformation from the first generation to second generation solar cell should be geared up with the entry of new approaches but still silicon seems to remain as the major material for solar cells for many years to come. Local barriers to the implementation of this technology may also keep continuing up to year 2010 and by that time the cost of the solar cell generated power is expected to be 60 cent per watt. Photovoltaic source could establish itself as a clean and sustainable energy alternate to the ever depleting and polluting non-renewable energy resource.

Microwave Detector Using $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-x}$, Grain Boundary Junction $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-x}$ superconductor thin films were deposited on $LaAIO_{3}$ (100) single crystal substrates using a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method. These films showed the critical temperature of about 9OK and critical current density of over $10^5/A \textrm{cm}^2$at 77K. These films showed granular structure with 0.5~1.5$\mu \textrm{m}$ grains. Bridge-type junctions, 6$\mu \textrm{m}$ in width and 6pm in length, were fabricated using the photolithography and the Ar ion milling techniques. Current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of these junctions with the microwave irradiation at 77K were studied. The critical current densities decreased as the irradiated microwave power increased. When microwaves were irradiated on the bridge at 77K. the I-V charateristics showed constant voltage stcp(Shapiro steps) at $\Delta$=nho/2e.
We have fabricated high-$\textrm{T}_c$ superconducting $\textrm{YBa}_{2}\textrm{Cu}_{3}\textrm{O}_{7-x}$(YBCO) grain boundary junctions at a step-edge on (001) $\textrm{SrTiO}_3$(STO) substrates. A diamond-like carbon (DLC) film grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition were used as an ion milling mask to make steps on the STO (100) single crystal and was removed by an oxygen reactive ion etch process. The c-axis oriented YBCO and TO thin films were deposited epitaxially on the STO substrate with a step-edge by pulsed laser deposition. The grain boundary junctions were formed at the top and the bottom of the step. The junctions worked at temperatures above 77 K, and had I\ulcornerR\ulcorner products of 7.5mV at 16K and 0.3 mV at 77K, respectively. The I-V characteristics of these junctions showed the shape of the two noisy resistively shunted junction model.

A-axis oriened YBCO thin flims were grown on $LaAIO_{3}$ single crystal substrate by off-axis rf magnetron sputtering method. We used two kinds of process to get a-axis oriented fi1ms;one-step process and two-step process. In one-step process, films are grown in single step in which substrate temperature( $T_s$) is in the range of $590^{\circ}C$ to $680^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, in two step process a-axis oriented thin film templates i f about 30nm thickness is deposited at low temperature first, and subsequently films are grown at elevated temperature to the final thickness of about 100nm. In the case of one step process($T_s$ ~)$600^{\circ}C$), prefered a-axis orientation is dominant and Cu-rich phases segregate at the surface. Segregations decrease and ($00 \ell$) peaks increase upon increasing $T_s$. The films prepared by two step method appeared to have strong(h00) peaks as the deposition rate increased. Microstructure shows pin holes resulted from mixed phases of a-axis and c-axis oriented films. In both cases of one step and two step process, as TS decreases, prepared films show stronger a-axis orientation. However electrical properties of the films are depressed with lower $T_c$ and wider $\Delta T$ as $T_s$ decreases.
Chemical composition, crystal structure, refractive index, specific gravity, color, and luster were studied fur pyrope-almandine series garnets. The main coloring agents determining the reddish or brownish garnets were also investigated. It was also examined if there is any relationship between mineralogical properties with respect to the various chemical compositions in the solid solution, in the hope to figure out the existing classification values of R.I. and S.G. using gem- testing facilities to distinguish pyrope from almadine. It was found that 17 out of the 24 specimens belong to pyrope and the rest almandine. R.I. of pyrope goes up to 1.77 and that of almandine is higher than the value.5.5. of pyrope reaches to 3.88 and that of almandine is greater than the value of pyrope. X-ray diffraction data revealed that pyrope-almandine garnets are isometric with space group Ia3d, and also show that the variation of cell parameters are not significant enough to parallel with the chemical compositions of the series. R.I. and S.G. increase with FeO content. Fe and Mn are most responsible to the red-purple and orange coloration of the specimens, respectively. Both zircon and rutile crystals are most common inclusions in the reddish stones.

ZnO was deposited on sapphire single crystal substrate by an ultrasonic pyrolysis of Zinc Acetate Dehydrate (ZAH) with carrying Ar gas. Through Thermogravimetry-Differential Scanning Calorimetry(TG-DSC), zinc acetate dihydrate was identified to be dissolved into ZnO above $380^{\circ}C$. ZnO deposited at $380-700^{\circ}C$ showed polycrystalline structures with ZnO (101) and ZnO (002) diffraction peaks like bulk ZnO in XRD, and from which c-axis strain ${\Sigma}Z=0.2\%$ and compressive biaxial stress$\sigma=-0.907\;GPa$ was obtained for the ZnO deposited $400^{\circ}C$. Scanning electron microscope revealed that microstructures of the ZnO were dependent on the deposition temperature. ZnO grown below temperature $600^{\circ}C$ were aggregate consisting of zinc acetate and ZnO particles shaped with nanoblades. On the other hand the grain of the ZnO deposited at $700^{\circ}C$ showed a distorted hexagonal shape and was composed of many ultrafine ZnO powers of 10-25 nm in size. The formation of these ulrafine nm scale ZnO powers was explained by the model of random nucleation mechanism. The optical property of the ZnO was analyzed by the photoluminescence (PL) measurement.
Highly c-axis oriented nanocrystalline ZnO thin films on silica glass substrates were prepared by spin coating-pyrolysis process with a zinc naphthenate precursor. Only the XRD intensity peak of (002) phase was observed for all samples. With an increase in heat treatment temperature, the peak intensity of (002) phase increases. No significant aggregation of particle was present. From scanning probe microscopy analyses, three-dimensional grain growth, which was thought to be due to inhomogeneous substrate surface and c-axis oriented grain growth of the ZnO phase, was independent on heal-treatment temperature. Highly homogeneous surface of the highly-oriented ZnO film was observed at $800^{\circ}C$. All the films exhibited a high transmittance (above 80%) in visible region except film heat treated at $1000^{\circ}C$, and showed a sharp fundamental absorption edge at about $0.38{\sim}0.40{\mu}m$. The estimated energy band gap for all the films were within the range previously reported for films and single crystal. ZnO films, consisting of densely packed grains with smooth surface morphology were obtained by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C{\sim}800^{\circ}C$, expected to be ideal for practical application, such as transparent conductive film and optical device.
