  • Direct Georeferencing by combined multi-sensor based on the direct measurement of the projection centers and rotation angle of sensor through loading the GPS and INS in aircraft. The method of combined multi-sensor can offer us to acquire the exterior orientation parameters with only minimum GCPs, even the ground control process could be completely skipped. Consequently, It is possible extreme to reduce the time and expense for the mapping process. In this study, a CCD camera is simultaneously used in combined multi-sensor surveying, and acquired CCD image through Direct Georeferencing produce digital orthoimage. In this process, methods of combining sensor and digital orthoimage are examined and estimated. For the comparison of the positioning accuracy digital orthoimage through Direct Georeferencing, GCPs determined by GPS surveying are used. Two digital orthoimage are produced; one with a few GCP and the other without them. The accuracy of orthoimages produced through combined multi-sensor with GCPs meets that of 1:1,000 maps. Without GCPs, it meets that of 1:5,000 maps.

  • We characterized the properties of the fabricated filter with the total internal reflection mirror (TIR) in the rectangular ring resonator and very small multimode interference (MMI) couplers on an InP material platform for photonic integrated circuits. Coupling power in and out of a resonator is increased by using an optimum MMI length of 110 ${\mu}m$ and a width of 9 ${\mu}m$, respectively. The semiconductor optical amplifier with the length of 120 ${\mu}m$ is integrated in the resonator to compensate the loss of the internal waveguide and the TIR mirror. A free spectral range of approximately 2 nm (244 GHz) is observed with an on-off ratio of 13 dB. The curve fitting also yields the power coupled per pass as 42%. To reach critical coupling at this coupling level would require a round trip loss of about 2.4 dB.

  • Based on the multimode fiber taper, a mode size converter for effective optical beam coupling between laser and optical fiber or between the two different optical fibers has been proposed and demonstrated. The device has a multimode input end and a single mode output end. The influence of various parameters, including device structure and launching conditions, on the coupling efficiency has been theoretically analyzed. The theoretical results revealed that the gaussian beam can be coupled into a single mode fiber without considerable insertion loss. The proposed multimode fiber taper has been fabricated using heating and pulling equipment incorporating two micro-torches. Experimental results showed that an optical beam with $50\;{\mu}m$ of large beam size was effectively coupled into single mode fiber through the multimode fiber taper. The insertion loss of the device was 1.3 dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-modal biometric system based on face, iris and fingerprint recognition system. To effectively aggregate two systems, we use statistical distribution models based on matching values for genuine and impostor, respectively. And then, We performed reveal fusion algorithms including weighted summation, Support Vector Machine(SVM), Fisher discriminant analysis, Bayesian classifier. From the various experiments, we found that the performance of multi-modal biometric system was influenced with the normalization methods and classifiers.

  • Different users or the same user using controlled versus free-text vocabularies could generate different queries for the same information need. It has been known in the information retrieval literature that different query representations may retrieve different sets of documents. In this paper, we first generate multiple query vectors from a given information problem by using different relevance feedback methods. Then, we combine the multiple query vectors into a single query vector. We also show through experiments that significant improvements can be achieved by the combination of the multiple query vectors.

  • A novel ultracompact polarization beam-splitter (PBS) combining two plasmonic multimode interference couplers (P-MMICs) and DFB guiding structure is implemented. The $2{\times}1$ and $1{\times}2$ P-MMICs are designed to collect the polarized powers of TE and TM modes reflected by or transmitted through an internal DFB structure. The simulation results show that the designed DFB-assisted PBS is very short (about $75{\mu}m$), and has a low insertion loss, a high extinction ratio, and a broad bandwidth of 20 nm.

  • The propagation characteristics of novel grating-assisted multimode interference (GA-MMI) coupler are explicitly and theoretically investigated by using longitudinal modal transmission-line theory (L-MTLT). The coupling efficiency of GA-MMI coupler is evaluated along the variation of grating thickness and duty cycle, and the spectrum is analyzed numerically. The numerical results reveal that the coupling length and the efficiency of $2{\times}2$ GA-MMI coupler along the variation of grating structure have low tolerance and the bandwidth varies dramatically along the output states.

  • In this paper, a novel architecture for device miniaturization of multimode interference-based (MMI) couplers is proposed. The coupling length of $N{\times}N$ MMI couplers scales as the square of the MMI region width so that the use of these structures with large-N ports can require large chip size. To solve the design problem, the butterfly grating-assisted MMI couplers, that have smaller device dimensions than conventional MMI couplers, are discussed and evaluated. Numerical simulations and novel design rules for such structures derived through theoretical analysis are presented.

  • The FE-BI (finite element- boundary integral) method is used for the characterization of an arbitrary-shaped multiaperture-coupled directional coupler between two retangular waveguides crossing with an arbitrary angle. The method is shown to be much more effective than the ordinary FEM for the structures under consideration. the computation time is compared with that of the ordinary FEM. The results of other papers for Moreno coupler are compared with the theoretical prediction and a good agreement is obtained.
