Realistic and graphics-based virtual reality content is based on 360-degree videos, and viewport extraction through the viewer's intention or automatic recommendation function is essential. This paper designs a viewport extraction system based on multiple object tracking in 360-degree videos and proposes a parallel computing structure necessary for multiple viewport extraction. The viewport extraction process in 360-degree videos is parallelized by composing pixel-wise threads, through 3D spherical surface coordinate transformation from ERP coordinates and 2D coordinate transformation of 3D spherical surface coordinates within the viewport. The proposed structure evaluated the computation time for up to 30 viewport extraction processes in aerial 360-degree video sequences and confirmed up to 5240 times acceleration compared to the CPU-based computation time proportional to the number of viewports. When using high-speed I/O or memory buffers that can reduce ERP frame I/O time, viewport extraction time can be further accelerated by 7.82 times. The proposed parallelized viewport extraction structure can be applied to simultaneous multi-access services for 360-degree videos or virtual reality contents and video summarization services for individual users.
This paper presents a method for region-based building extraction from high resolution satellite images(HRSI) using integrated information of spectral and color invariant features without user intervention such as selecting training data sets. The purpose of this study is also to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying to IKONOS and QuickBird images. Firstly, the image is segmented by the MSRG method. The vegetation and shadow regions are automatically detected and masked to facilitate the building extraction. Secondly, the region merging is performed for the masked image, which the integrated information of the spectral and color invariant features is used. Finally, the building regions are extracted using the shape feature for the merged regions. The boundaries of the extracted buildings are simplified using the generalization techniques to improve the completeness of the building extraction. The experimental results showed more than 80% accuracy for two study areas and the visually satisfactory results obtained. In conclusion, the proposed method has shown great potential for the building extraction from HRSI.

With high social demands for the diverse utilizations of forest lands, the illegal forest land use changes have increased. We studied change detection technique to detect changes in forest land use using an object-oriented segmentation of RED bands differencing in multi-temporal aerial photographs. The new object-oriented segmentation method consists of the 5 steps, "Image Composite - Segmentation - Reshaping - Noise Remover - Change Detection". The method enabled extraction of deforested objects by selecting a suitable threshold to determine whether the objects was divided or merged, based on the relations between the objects, spectral characteristics and contextual information from multi-temporal aerial photographs. The results found that the object-oriented segmentation method detected 12% of changes in forest land use, with 96% of the average detection accuracy compared by visual interpretation. Therefore this research showed that the spatial data by the object-oriented segmentation method can be complementary to the one by a visual interpretation method, and proved the possibility of automatically detecting and extracting changes in forest land use from multi-temporal aerial photographs.

Image segmentation technique is becoming increasingly important in the field of remote sensing image analysis in areas such as object oriented image classification to extract object regions of interest within images. This paper presents a new method for image segmentation in High Resolution Remote Sensing Image based on Improved Seeded Region Growing (ISRG) and Region merging. Firstly, multi-spectral edge detection was done using an entropy operator in pan-sharpened QuickBird imagery. Then, the initial seeds were automatically selected from the obtained multi-spectral edge map. After automatic selection of significant seeds, an initial segmentation was achieved by applying ISRG to consider spectral and edge information. Finally the region merging process, integrating region texture and spectral information, was carried out to get the final segmentation result. The accuracy assesment was done using the unsupervised objective evaluation method for evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed method. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method has good potential for application in the segmentation of high resolution satellite images.

Recently there have been many efforts to support searching and browsing based on the visual content of image and multimedia data. Most existing approaches to content-based image retrieval rely on query by example or user based low-level features such as color, shape, texture. But these methods of query are not easy to use and restrict. In this paper we propose a method for automatic color object extraction and labelling to support multiple queries of content-based image retrieval system. These approaches simplify the regions within images using single colorizing algorithm and extract color object using proposed Color and Spatial based Binary tree map(CSB tree map). And by searching over a large of number of processed regions, a index for the database is created by using proposed labelling method. This allows very fast indexing of the image by color contents of the images and spatial attributes. Futhermore, information about the labelled regions, such as the color set, size, and location, enables variable multiple queries that combine both color content and spatial relationships of regions. We proved our proposed system to be high performance through experiment comparable with another algorithm using 'Washington' image database.

As mobile-based hardware technology develops, many kinds of applications are also being developed. In addition, there is an increasing demand to automatically check that the interface of these applications works correctly. In this paper, we describe a method for accurately detecting faulty images from applications by comparing major characteristics from input color images. For this purpose, our method first extracts major characteristics of the input image, then calculates the differences in the extracted major features, and decides if the test image is a normal image or a faulty image dissimilar to the reference image. Experiment results show that the suggested approach robustly determines similar and dissimilar images by comparing major characteristics from input color images. The suggested method is expected to be useful in many real application areas related to computer vision, like video indexing, object detection and tracking, image surveillance, and so on.

Multi-temporal high resolution satellite images are essential data for efficient city analysis and monitoring. Yet even when acquired from the same location, identical sensors as well as different sensors, these multi-temporal images have a geometric inconsistency. Matching points between images, therefore, must be extracted to match the images. With images of an urban area, however, it is difficult to extract matching points accurately because buildings, trees, bridges, and other artificial objects cause shadows over a wide area, which have different intensities and directions in multi-temporal images. In this study, we analyze a shadow effect on image matching of high resolution satellite images in urban area using Scale-Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT), the representative matching points extraction method, and automatic shadow extraction method. The shadow segments are extracted using spatial and spectral attributes derived from the image segmentation. Also, we consider information of shadow adjacency with the building edge buffer. SIFT matching points extracted from shadow segments are eliminated from matching point pairs and then image matching is performed. Finally, we evaluate the quality of matching points and image matching results, visually and quantitatively, for the analysis of shadow effect on image matching of high resolution satellite image.
In recent years, the number of video cameras that are used to record and broadcast live sporting events has increased, and selecting the shots with the best view from multiple cameras has been an actively researched topic. Existing approaches have assumed that the background in video is fixed. However, this paper proposes a best view selection method for cases in which the background is not fixed. In our study, an athlete of interest was recorded in video during motion with multiple cameras. Then, each frame from all cameras is analyzed for establishing rules to select the best view. The frames were selected using our system and are compared with what human viewers have indicated as being the most desirable. For the evaluation, we asked each of 20 non-specialists to pick the best and worst views. The set of the best views that were selected the most coincided with 54.5% of the frame selection using our proposed method. On the other hand, the set of views most selected as worst through human selection coincided with 9% of best view shots selected using our method, demonstrating the efficacy of our proposed method.
Web contents created for desktop screens give rise to problems when they are to be displayed on the small screens of mobile terminals. While in some cases some of the objects of a page may not be displayable due to the lack of browser capability, the entire page may not be displayable due to the incompatibility with the browser in other cases. In this paper, we introduce a new mobile content adaptation approach based on web clipping, which transforms an original page into one that is optimally displayed on a mobile terminal. In this method, a source page is automatically clipped and transformed according to the clip specification made by the content provider using a clip editing tool. The clip editing tool allows the user to specify group clips, multi-level cups and dynamic clips as well as simple clips, and the presentation layout through a graphic user interface. Based on the clip specifications, each clip is transformed into an intermediate meta-language document, which in turn is transformed into a presentation page in the target markup language. Transcoding of image objects in major image file formats is also supported.
