Concrete plasticity models fol the analysis of reinforced concrete members in plane stress are studied. The proposed plasticity model for reinforced concrete provides a unified approach combining plasticity theory and damage models. It addresses strength mhancement under rnultiaxial compression. and tensile cracking damage. The model uses multiple failure criteria for compressive crushing and tensile cracking. For tensile cracking behavior. rotating-crack and fixed-crack plasticity models are compared. As crushing failure criterion, the Drucker-Prager and the von Mises models are used for comparison. The model uses now and existing damnge models fbr tension softening, tension stiffening. and compression softening dup to tensilt. cracking. Finite element analyses using the unified method are compatxd with existing rxpcrimcntal r.esults. To vei.ify the proposcd crushing and cracking plasticity models, the experiments have load capacities govc11.nc.d either by compressive crushing of'concrete or by yi~lding of' reinforcing steel.
The inherent characteristic of concrete tensile cracks, directional nonlocal crack damage, causes so-called rotating tensile crack damage and softening of compressive strength. In the present study, a plasticity model was developed to describe the behavior of reinforced concrete planar members In tension-compression. To describe the effect of directional nonlocal crack damage, the concept of microplane model was combined with the plasticity model. Unlike existing models, in the proposed model, softening of compressive strength as well as the tensile crack damage were defined by the directional nonlocal crack damage. Once a tensile cracking occurs, the microplanes of concrete are affected by the nonlocal crack damage. In the microplanes, microscopic tension and compression failure surfaces are calculated. By integrating the microscopic failure surfaces, the macroscopic failure surface is calculated. The proposed model was implemented to finite element analysis, and it was verified by comparisons with the results of existing shear panel tests.
Concrete has two different failure mechanisms : compressive crushing and tensile cracking.
Concrete models should use the two different failure criteria to analyze the inelastic behavior of
concrete including multiaxial crushing and tensile cracking. Concrete models used in this study
are based on plasticity with multiple failure criteria of compressive crushing and tensile cracking.
For tensile cracking behavior, two different plasticity models are investigated. The* ,e are
rotating-crack and fixed-crack plasticity models, classified according to idealization of crack
0rientat:ions. The material models simplify inelastic behavior of concrete for plane stress
problenls. The material models are used for the finite element anlaysis. Analytical results are
compared with several experiments of reinforced concrete member. The advantages and
disadva.ntages of rotating-crack and fixed -crack plasticity models are discussed.
In this paper the Hoek-Brown (HB) failure criterion is integrated into the Holmquist-Johnson-Cook (HJC) concrete material model to reflect the inherent characteristics of field rock masses in LS-DYNA blast modeling. This is intended to emphasize the distinctive characteristics of field rock masses that usually have many geological discontinuities. The replacement is made only for the static strength part of the HJC material model by using a statistical curve fitting technique, and its procedure is described in detail. An example is also given to illustrate the use of the obtained HJC material model. Computation is performed for a plane strain model of a single-hole blasting on a field limestone by using the combination of the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) technique and the multi-material arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (MMALE) method in LS-DYNA.
A plasticity model was developed to predict the behavioral characteristics of concrete in multiaxial compression. To extend the applicability of the proposed model to concrete in various stress states, a new approach for failure criteria was attempted. A stress was decomposed into one volumetric and two deviatoric components orthogonal to each other. Three failure criteria wire provided independently for each stress component. To satisfy the three failure criteria, the plasticity model using multiple failure criteria was Implemented. Each failure surface was defined by equivalent volumetric or deviatoric plastic strain. To present dilatancy due to compressive damage a non-associative flow nile was proposed. The proposed model was implemented to finite element analysis, and it was verified by comparisons with various existing test results. The comparisons show that the proposed model predicted well most of the experiments by using three independent failure criteria.
A constitutive model unifying plasticity and crack damage mode)s was developed to address the cyclic behavior of reinforced concrete planar members. The stress of concrete in tension-compression was conceptually defined by the sum of the compressive stress developed by the strut-action of concrete and the tensile stresses developed by tensile cracking. The plasticity model with multiple failure criteria was used to describe the isotropic damage of compressive crushing affected by the anisotropic damage of tensile cracking. The concepts of the multiple fixed crack damage model and the plastic flow model of tensile cracking were used to describe the tensile stress-strain relationship of multi-directional cracks. This unified model can describe the behavioral characteristics of reinforced concrete in cyclic tension-compression conditions, i.e. multiple tensile crack orientations, progressively rotating crack damage, and compressive crushing of concrete. The proposed constitutive model was implemented to finite element analysis, and it was verified by comparison with existing experimental results from reinforced concrete shear panels and walls under cyclic load conditions.

This paper describes multi-scale based ductile fracture simulation using finite element (FE) damage analysis. The maximum and crack initiation loads of cracked components were predicted using proposed virtual testing method. To apply the local approach criteria for ductile fracture, stress-modified fracture strain model was adopted as the damage criteria with modified calibration technique that only requires tensile and fracture toughness test data. Element-size-dependent critical damage model is also introduced to apply the proposed ductile fracture simulation to large-scale components. The results of the simulation were compared with those of the tests on SA333 Gr. 6 full-scale pipes at $288^{\circ}C$, performed by the Battelle Memorial Institute.
Knowledge of the failure behavior of friction materials considering their intermediate principal stress is related to an understanding of situations where these materials might be used: for example, the stability of deep-seated boreholes and fault slip analysis. This study designed equipment for physically implementing true triaxial compression and used it to assess specimens of plaster, a friction material. The material's mechanical behaviors are discussed based on the results. The applicability of the 3D failure criteria are also reviewed. The tested specimens were molded cuboids of width, length, and height 52, 52, and 104 mm, respectively. A total of 24 true triaxial compression tests were performed under various combinations of 𝜎3 and 𝜎2 conditions. Conventional uniaxial and triaxial compression tests were employed to estimate the mechanical properties of the plaster for use as parameters for 3D failure criteria. Examining the stress-strain relations of the plaster materials showed that a large difference between the intermediate principal stress and the minimum principal stress indicated strong brittle behavior. The mechanical behavior of the plaster used here reflects the change of intermediate principal stress. Nonlinear multiple regression analysis on the test data in the principal space showed that the modified Wiebols-Cook failure criterion and the modified Lade failure criterion were the most suitable 3D failure criteria for the tested plaster.

In order to evaluate the physical properties of rock which might serve as a database for both mining and civil works, a lot of laboratory tests for Jecheon limestones were conducted to find unit weight, absorption ratio, porosity, elastic wave velocity, uniaxial compressive strength, Young's modulus, poisson's ratio, tensile strength, shore hardness, friction angle and cohesion. On investigation of the mechanical properties of both the gray limestone and the clayey limestone distributed in the studied region, the clayey limestone turned out to have more weak mechanical properties which might come from low unit weight, high absorption ratio and high porosity of rocks. The failure criteria of Jecheon limestones were discussed by means of both Mohr-Coulomb criterion and Hoek-Brown criterion. Regression analyses of the physical properties obtained from a lot of laboratory tests were also conducted by means of both linear and multiple regression analyses.
