This study examines some cognitive development effects of mass media while testing the relations between mass media consumption and academic achievement and intelligence. In this research, students' television, newspaper, and internet consumption behaviors are used as independent variables which include motivations and magnitude of various content categories' and total consumption of those media. Dependent variables are school courses' test scores and eight intelligence scores based on Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence theory. It was found that media consumption magnitudes of various content categories have the most strong effects on those dependent variables. Each of various media consumption behaviors are found to have different effects according to which variable is dependent. For example, total internet consumption have positive effects on logical-mathematical intelligence but negative effects school achievements. Internet game sight have positive effects on logical-mathematical intelligence but negative effects on musical intelligence. It may be concluded that cognitive development is dependent mainly on what media contents students consume. Media consumption behaviors may have positive effects on some kinds of cognitive development and negative effects on other kinds. In other words, television or internet may have positive effects on academic achievement or intelligence contrary to popular thinking.

With the society rapidly changing, children are being asked respond quickly to these changes. Therefore, how children learn and think comes before what to teach, and we need to come up with ways to nurture their ability to proactively control their lives and studies. We attempt to use the technique of Accelerated learning, which focuses on the student's own ability toacquire and use information, to enhance the efficiency of information technology education. We designed the PLAY model based on accelerated learning and Multiple Intelligence Theory, and conducted ten experimental sessions on two groups of 70 second grade elementary school students.

This study analyzed the characteristics of multiple intelligence and the levels of academic adjustment for the department and the major among undergraduate students majoring in IT. Seventy freshmen majoring in IT at the department of M, H University participated in this study and the basic major subject required for the department was Computer Language: I-C Language. Eight intelligence areas less controversial in Gardner's multiple intelligence theory were used; academic adjustment was manipulatively defined as the degree of adjustment for the department and the major among undergraduate students; and pleasure, flow, familiarity and relevance to the major, academic achievement, and major satisfaction were selected as variables through literature review. The undergraduate students majoring in IT showed high levels of interpersonal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence, with insignificant gender differences. Significant correlations were found between multiple intelligence and academic adjustment. In particular, while pleasure and flow in C programming were found to be at low levels in academic adjustment, the significant correlation between linguistic intelligence in multiple intelligence and flow in C language was a very interesting finding. While significant correlation was not found between multiple intelligence and academic achievement, students who were more highly aware of the relevance to the major and who were more familiar with C language showed higher academic achievement. Lastly, limitations of this study were discussed; on the basis of the results, suggestions were made about prescriptive strategies to improve academic achievement for undergraduate students majoring in IT.

The purpose of this study was to develop a standardized performance style Multiple Intelligences Test for preschoolers(MIT-P). A total of 270 preschoolers(3~5-years-old) participated in this study. Tools and procedures were developed to measure performance in 7 areas of multiple Intelligences(linguistic, mathematical, science, social, music, art and kinesthetic). The final test set included 138 items. Reliability of the MIT-P was relatively high(Cronbach alpha =.92). Intercorrelations among measures of the 7 areas indicated construct validity. Based on these results, the pilot study of MIT-P is considered adequate to form the basis of a new test that would help teachers and parents to identify children's strengths and weaknesses and may be useful for educational planning.

최근 프로그래밍 교육은 쉽고 재밌게 학습할 수 있는 다양한 교육용 프로그래밍 언어의 보급으로 일반 학생들의 사고력 배양을 위한 효과적인 학습으로 널리 인식되고 있다. 또한 프로그래밍의 효과를 증진시킬 수 있는 다양한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 학습 효과에 영향을 미치는 많은 변인 중에서 학습자 자체에 대한 이해가 중요하고 그에 맞는 교육이 중요함을 논의하였다. 학습자들의 개성을 존중하고 학습자들의 개인차를 반영한 학습자 중심 교육이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 학습자들의 특성과 프로그래밍 교육의 개념을 다중지능 이론 관점에서 살펴보고 학습자 중심의 프로그래밍 교육 방향을 연구했다.

This study is to develop a web-based career guidance system to be a help making a decision on one's occupation, which is important for a person's life. As career development education for higher grades of elementary school aims at providing basic knowledge necessary for career choice and forming a basic attitude toward occupation and values, it is desirable to carry out the guidance of a variety of occupations on the basis of personal interest and aptitude of individual students. Previously, however, most studies have remained at the level where simply test results are notified. Therefore, the study administered a career development test fit for higher grades of elementary school who are at the stage of potential career choice and developed a web-based career guidance system in which suitable occupation types are advised of based on the results. Beyond notifying test results, the developed career guidance system presents 3 excellent intelligences, rather than converting test results into scores. Thus, it is expected that the system will help students understand their areas of excellent intelligence, efficiently study related occupation types and duties, and learn to have awareness and make a better decision in relation to their career.

본 논문에서는 CCD카메라로 입력 받은 다중 크기 및 활자체로 구성된 한글문서의 화상 데이터를 편집기에서 수정 가능한 문자로 변환시키는 시스템을 구현하였다. 먼저 Dynamic 이 진화 처리 과정을 거친 화상을 흑백 화소의 누적분포에 따라 문자단위로 분할한 후, 다양한 크기로 분할된 문자를 표준패턴 크기로 표준화 시켰다. 한글을 자소 간 공백 위치의 특징에 따라서 6가지 유형으로 분류한 후, 퍼지 이론을 접목시킨 원형 패턴 벡터 알고리즘을 사용해서 표준벡터와 입력된 글자의 특징벡터를 비교하여 문자로 인식하게 하였다. 각 6가지 유형에서 서로 다른 자소로 결합된 문자들을 30개 선정하여 여러 가지 활자체 및 크기에 적용해 본 결과, 모두 문서화가 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a Children's Play Disposition Scale(CPDS) which could be used to evaluate children's play patterns and preferences. The participants of this study were parents of 437 5-7-year-old children (age range from 51months to 106months). Preliminary items were developed through a review of relevant research, multiple intelligence theory and scales, confirmation of item adequacy and content validity. After the content validity was confirmed by experts, these items were edited down to a final list of 27 items representing 6 factors identified by exploratory factor analysis. The 6 factors of the scale consists of initiative, linguistic activity, logical-mathematical activity, art and craft, physical activity, and sensitivity respectively. Concurrent validity was established by using correlations between each factor of the CPDS and sub-factors and the total scores of Multiple Intelligence Checklist for preschoolers (Multiple Intelligence Institute Co., Ltd, 2008) and Multiple Intelligence Checklist for elementary schoolers (Multiple Intelligence Institute Co., Ltd, 2007). In addition, the reliability of each factor, as measured by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, ranged from .53 to .79. The CPDS provides the developmental and educational information for strengthening children's developmental forte and for supporting children's developmental weakness. This scale can be used on developing children's play contents and guiding play methods in the future.
