We have developed an algorithm based on the method of integral equations to simulate the magnetotelluric (MT) responses of three-dimensional (3-D) bodies in a layered half-space. The inhomogeneities are divided into a number of cells and are replaced by an equivalent current distribution which is approximated by pulse basis functions. A matrix equation is constructed using the electric Green's tensor function appropriate to a layered earth, and is solved for the vector current in each cell. Subsequently, scattered fields are found by integrating electric and magnetic Green's tensor functions over the scattering current About a 3-D conductive body near the earth's surface, interpretation using 2-D transverse electric modeling schemes can imply highly erratic low resistivities at depth. This is why these routines do not account for the effect of boundary charges. However, centrally located profiles across elongate 3-D prisms may be modeled accurately with a 2-D transverse magnetic algorithm, which implicitly includes boundary charges in its formulation. Multifrequency calculations show that apparent resistivity and impedance phase are really two complementary parameters. Hence, they should be treated simultaneously in broadband MT interpretation.

Techniques to evaluate gene expression profiling, such as sufficiently sensitive cDNA microarrays or real-time quantitative PCR, are efficient methods for monitoring human pluripotent stem cell (hESC/iPSC) cultures. However, most of these high-throughput tests have a limited use due to high cost, extended turn-around time, and the involvement of highly specialized technical expertise. Hence, there is an urgency of rapid, cost-effective, robust, yet sensitive method development for routine screening of hESCs/hiPSCs. A critical requirement in hESC/hiPSC cultures is to maintain a uniform undifferentiated state and to determine their differentiation capacity by showing the expression of gene markers representing all three germ layers, including ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. To quantify the modulation of gene expression in hESCs/hiPSC during their propagation, expansion, and differentiation via embryoid body (EB) formation, we developed a simple, rapid, inexpensive, and definitive multimarker, semiquantitative multiplex RT-PCR platform technology. Among the 9 gene primers tested, 5 were pluripotent markers comprising set 1, and 3 lineage-specific markers were combined as set 2, respectively. We found that these 2 sets were not only effective in determining the relative differentiation in hESCs/hiPSCs, but were easily reproducible. In this study, we used the hES/hiPS cell lines to standardize the technique. This multiplex RT-PCR assay is flexible and, by selecting appropriate reporter genes, can be designed for characterization of different hESC/hiPSC lines during routine maintenance and directed differentiation.
A target-sensitive liposome was prepared by using a dioleoyl-phosphatidylethanolamine(DOPE) and a palmitic acid coupled antibody(p-IgG). For the preparation of stable PE-liposomes, the key factors such as antibody modification method with palmitic acrid, molar ratio of p-IgG to lipid and the amount of various additives, were examined. The optimum molar ratio of p-IgG to lipid was found to be $2.5{\times}10^{-4}$ and the final concentration of deoxycholate for the stable liposome formation was about 0.09%. Two kinds of target-sensitive liposomes, containing polyclonal anti-SRBC(Sheep Red Blood Cell)-antibody and monoclonal anti-${\beta}$-HCG(Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)-antibody, were successfully prepared. The destabilization of liposomes was examined by measuring the release of calcein entrapped in the liposome vesicles. Calcein was released only when the liposomes were contacted with the specific target cells. The calcein release with non-specific target cells was negligible. From this result, it is clear that p-IgG is indispensible for the maintenance of stable PE-liposome and the calcein release is mainly due to the specific interactions between the liposomes containing antibody and the target cells containing antigen.

A fuzzy classifier which needs various analyses of features using genetic algorithms is proposed. The fuzzy
classifier has a simple structure, which contains a classification part based on fuzzy logic theory and a rule generation
ation padptu sing genetic algorithms. The rule generation part determines optimal fuzzy membership functions and
inclusior~ or exclusion of each feature in fuzzy classification rules. We analyzed recognition rate of a specific object,
then added finer features repetitively, if necessary, to the object which has large misclassification rate. And we introduce
repetitive analyses method for the minimum size of string and population, and for the improvement of recognition
rates. This classifier is applied to three examples of the classification of iris data, the discrimination of thyroid
gland cancer cells and the recognition of confusing handwritten and printed numerals. In the recognition of
confusing handwritten and printed numerals, each sample numeral is classified into one of the groups which are
divided according to the sample structure. The fuzzy classifier proposed in this paper has recognition rates of 98.
67% for iris data, 98.25% for thyroid gland cancer cells and 96.3% for confusing handwritten and printed
numeral!;.

A successful scaffold should have a highly porous structure and good mechanical stability. High porosity and appropriate pore size provide structural matrix for initial cell attachment and proliferation enabling the exchange of nutrients between the scaffold and environment. In this paper the highly porous scaffold of poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) electrospun nanofibers could be manufactured with an auxiliary electrode and chemical blowing agent (BA) under several processing conditions, such as the concentration of PCL solution, weight percent of a chemical blowing agent, and decomposition time of a chemical blowing agent. To attain stable electrospinnability and blown nanofiber mats having high microporosity and large pore, a processing condition, 8wt% of PCL solution and 0.5wt% of a chemical blowing agent under $100^{\circ}C$ and decomposition time of $2{\sim}3\;s$, was used. The growth characteristic of human dermal fibroblasts cells cultured in the mats showed the good adhesion and proliferation on the blown mat compared to a normal electrospun mat.
This study was conducted to find out the effect of thyroid function on Hypophysis, and serum FSH and LH concentrations in female rats. One hundred and forty-four female rats (wistar-imamichi albino rats) of 25 days old were divided into 4 groups; thyroidectomy (Thx.) propylthiouracil (PTU), thyroxine (Thyro.) and control (Cont.) groups. Thirty-six heads of rats were arranged to each group. The thyroid glands of the thyroidectomized groups were removed by surgery. The PTU treated groups were drunk the propylthiouracil solution of 0.05% and the thyroxine treated groups were administered subcutaneously with $30{\mu}g$ per 100 g body weight on 3 days intervals. Every 6 heads of rats in each group were sacrificed at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks after treatment with time elapse for investigating the weights and histological changes of hypophysis. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The weights of hypophysis at all treated groups were higher than control group, but significantly increased from 3 to 5 weeks. The significance was not recognized between Thyro. and control groups, and Thx. and PTU groups. 2. In the histological changes of hypophysis, eosinophils atrophied from 4 weeks after treatment in Thx. and PTU groups, and basophils showed hypertrophy and hyperplasia from 2 weeks after treatment and thereafter this tendency was more serious showing vacuolization from 4 weeks after treatment. In Thyro. treated group, eosinophils showed slight hypertrophy and basophils atrophied from 5 weeks after treatment but the group showed the similar histological changes in comparison with the control group. 3. The changes of the concentrations of serum FSH at all observation times were significantly recognized among all observation groups. The concentrations in True and PTU groups were significantly lower than those in control group, but those in Thyro. group were significantly higher than those in control group. 4. The changes of the concentrations of serum LH in all treated groups were significantly lower than those in control group. The significance was not recognized between True and PTU group, and Thyro. and control groups.
Protein phosphatase 2A was obtained from a cytosolic fraction of bovine brain homogenate. The phosphatase activity using phosphorylated histone Hl as substrate was suppressed in the presence of liposomes composed of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine(DPPC) or the mixture of phosphatidylserine and DPPC. The binding of protein phosphatase to liposome was indicated by the facts that the phosphatase activity of the supernatant of protein phosphatase/multilayer vesicle mixture was decreased with increasing amount of liposome, and that [$^{125}I$]-labeled protein phosphatase was coeluted with liposome. However, the affinity of the protein for phospholipid membrane was not so high. On the other hand, okadaic acid and liposome reduced the phosphatase activity synergistically, which means that okadaic acid binds neither to lipid membrane nor to the membrane-associated phosphatase, The inhibitory effect of liposome was, therefore, ascribed to association of the protein phosphatase 2A with the lipid bilayer membrane.
