Multi-Rate TCP Video Streaming for Client Heterogeneity (이종 클라이언트들을 위한 멀티레이트 TCP 비디오 스트리밍에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a video streaming server that guarantees a certain level of quality when a server should serve video streaming service to multiple heterogenous clients simultaneously with TCP transport. If each heterogeneous client requests video streaming service in according to its own requirement such as bitrate of content and these requests are accepted by a server, then TCP flows for each video streaming session fairly share limited uplink bandwidth of the server. At this time, because TCP's bandwidth fair-share characteristics can result in bandwidth shrinkage of higher bitrate video streaming session, the client of higher bitrate video may suffer sluggish playback which is related with streaming QoS degradation. To tackle this problem, our proposed server system uses multiple TCP connections adaptively for each video streaming session depending on the anticipated status of the client playout buffer. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can successfully reduce the occurrence of playout buffer underrun and enhance streaming quality for whole video clients.

Packet Drop Technique for Differentiated Services in Wired Ship Area Networks (선박 내 유선망에서 차등화 서비스 지원을 위한 패킷 폐기 기술)

  • An wired ship area network has functionality of remote control and autonomous management of various sensors and instruments embedded or boarded in a ship. For such environment, the DiffServ (Differentiated Services) realizes that the high-speed real-time flow with the higher priority has the guaranteed minimum data rate and is delivered faster. As a result of this DiffServ effect, the intelligent Ship Area Networks can be implemented. In this paper, an packet drop technique is proposed to outperform the previous RIO (RED In and Out) drop mechanism for DiffServ in ship area networks. the proposed packet drop technique does not manage the individual flows and divides them into several flow groups according to a criterion. And it guarantees the fairness between individual flows in the same QoS class through the group-based control. In simulation results of the proposed packet drop technique, the link utilization decreases than RIO. But it guarantees more data rates to DiffServ flows passing multiple bottleneck links.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fault tolerant ATM Switch and a new adaptive self-routing scheme used to make the switch to be fault tolerant. It can provide more multiple paths than the related previous switches between an input/output pair of a switch by adding extra links between switching elements in the same stage and extending the self-routing scheme of the Banyan network. Our routing scheme is as simple as that of the banyan network, which is based on the topological relationships among the switching elements (SE’s) that render a packet to the same destination with the regular self-routing. These topological properties of the Banyan network are discovered in this paper. We present an algebraic proof to show the correctness of this scheme, and an analytic reliability analysis to provide quantitative comparisons with other switches, which shows that the new switch is more cost effective than the Banyan network and other augmented MIN’s in terms of the reliability.

  • Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.

  • Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is the network-based mobility management protocol that network supports the mobility of mobile node (MN) on behalf of the MN. In PMIPv6, a multi-homed MN can connect to the PMIPv6 domain by using only one interface even though it has multiple interfaces. It would be efficient when such a multi-homed MN connects to the PMIPv6 domain by using all of its interfaces. If such a multi-homed MN utilizes all of its interfaces, flow mobility can be provided that the MN handovers one or more flows from one interface to another without re-establishing session. In this paper, we propose the flow-based mobility management protocol by considering the intention of the user. The Router Advertisement (RA) message is used in order for the PMIPv6 domain to inform that the MN can utilize the flow mobility. The proposed mechanism is evaluated by analyzing signaling overhead and handover latency, and the numerical results show that the performance is affected by mobility speed of the MN and the failure probability of the wireless link.

Routing Control Algorithm for SS7 Signaling Traffic with Distributed Message Handling Processors (분산 메시지처리기 구조에서의 공통선 신호 트래픽루팅 제어 기법)

  • Message handling function of the SS7(Signaling System N0.7) provides signaling traffic routing capabilities to transfer the signaling traffic to the destination nodes in the signaling network. This message handling function should be handled without any transfer delay for real time processing of large amount of signaling traffic for data communication service, and visual information service. In this paper, we suggest two routing algorithms working on the distributed message handling processors which were specially designed for message handling function. The one is an internal distributing algorithm for equal distribution of signaling traffic among the distributed message handling processors and the other is a distributing algorithm for distribution of signaling traffic in the multiple signaling routes. Both of algorithms are using signaling link selection codes labled in each signaling messages. It is shown that the suggested algorithms are very efficient for routing signaling traffic at the fault condition of signaling routes and the restoration of unavailable signaling routes.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of cyclostationary signal detection scheme for LTE system. We applied the cyclostationary signal detection scheme to the cognitive radio(CR) technology, which improves the usage efficiency of spectrums and shares frequencies, and we detected the signal in the long term evolution(LTE) band. LTE system has been designated as the standard to improve the maximum data rate and provide the low latency in the 3rd generation partnership project(3GPP). In this paper, we generated the LTE signals based on the orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA) and analyzed the performance of signal detection in accordance with the segment and threshold of the generated signals. Gaussian channel was used in the simulation and we discussed the future studies to apply the CR to the LTE system.

  • The power line modem proposed in this paper transmits the remote control signal using CSK(Code Shift Keying) and DS/SS method. The CSK technique provides the increased capacity of transmission and robustness towards noise. Besides, the DS/SS technique provides protection against narrow-band Gaussian interference and multi-path interference. The modem supports full-duplex communication using FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) and the modem structure for forward link is same with that for reverse link. To switch each sub-controlled unit smoothly, 4/$\pi$-DQPSK is adopted for noncoherent demodulation. The PN code for spreading spectrum seues to divide each group which consists of sub-controlled units and Walsh code is used for the M-ary CSK technique. Each block is designed and verified with TMS320C5402 DSP. We show the superiority of the proposed method by analyzing numerically the system performance for the factors of the DS/SS and CSK method ullder additive white Gaussian noise and PBI.

PCB Pattern Antenna of 920 MHz Band for Marine IoT Services (해양 IoT 서비스를 위한 920 MHz 대역의 PCB 패턴 안테나)

  • It is needed to develop an antenna with features of subminiature, light weight and multi-band operation for the variaty services in maritime and industrial fields. The PCB pattern antenna is one of the appropreiate antennas solving these requirements. In this research, the design and fabrication of the PCB pattern antenna operating on the single band of 920 MHz are investigated. The final goal is that the development of the dual band PCB pattern antenna operating on 260 MHz and 920 MHz, which is based on the proposed antenna. It is evident that the performance in the frequencies of 902 MHz, 915 MHz and 928 MHz among of 920 MHz ISM band is better than that in other frequencies. It is also confirmed that the differences of the voltage standing wave ratio, return loss, gain and efficiency between three frequencies are less than 5%. It is expected that the development of communication link of 5-10 km is possible when the induced results are applied into the low power wide area (LPWA) network desinged by the rule of -30 dB sensitivity.

Outage Performance of Uplink NOMA Systems with CDF Scheduling (CDF 스케쥴링을 적용한 상향링크 NOMA 시스템의 오수신 성능)

  • NOMA (Non-orthogonal multiple Access) system has been focused on the next generation cellular system for higher spectral efficiency. However, this requires user scheduling as the NOMA system is a multi-user system which accesses simultaneously. There are two representative scheduling schemes, proportionate scheduling (FP) and cumulative distribution function (CFD) scheduling. The PF scheduling is applied, the cell edge user is hard to obtain a transmit opportunity. Recently, CDF scheduling is obviously noted that it offers the same possibility of transmission for a user regardless of the location in a cell. We consider an uplink NOMA system with CDF scheduling, and obtain the channel access probabilities, the outage probabilities of the system with different number of users and different kinds of weights through simulation. The results indicate that the likelihood of each user accessing the channel is the same and the probability of failure decreases as the number of users increases. We found that the effect of the probability of failure is negligible as the weight of the cell edge user increases.
