  • In this paper, the design of a double-dipole quasi-Yagi antenna (DDQYA) with a gain over 7 dBi at 1.70-2.70 GHz band is studied. The proposed DDQYA consists of two strip dipoles with different lengths and a ground reflector, which are connected trough a coplanar stripline. The length of the second dipole is adjusted to increase the gain in the low frequency band, whereas a rectangular patch director is appended to the DDQYA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency band. The effects of the length of the second dipole, and the length and width of the director on the antenna performance are analyzed, and final design parameters to obtain a gain over 7 dBi are obtained. A prototype of the proposed DDQYA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.60-2.86 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and measured gain ranges 7.2-7.6 dBi at 1.70-2.70 GHz band.

  • In this paper, the bandwidth and gain enhancement of a double-dipole quasi-Yagi antenna (DDQYA) using a modified balun and two directors is studied. The proposed DDQYA consists of two strip dipoles with different lengths, a ground reflector, which are connected through a coplanar strip line, and two directors. The modified balun is used to increase the bandwidth, whereas two directors are appended to the DDQYA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency band. The effects of the length and width of the first director on the antenna performance are analyzed, and final design parameters to obtain a gain over 7 dBi at 1.60-2.90 GHz band are obtained. A prototype of the proposed DDQYA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.57-3.00 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and measured gain ranges 7.1-7.8 dBi at 1.60-2.90 GHz band.

  • In this paper, we design and fabricate an ultra small dual crossed dipole antenna operating at 2.4 GHz frequency. In order to miniaturize the size of the antenna so that it can be applied to a mobile device, a cross dipole is disposed on the upper two layers and a reflection plane, a horizontal matching circuit and a ground plane are arranged on each layer. The circuit was connected by a vertical through-hole. The size of the fabricated antenna is $21.61mm{\times}16.88mm{\times}1.27mm$, the measured reflection coefficient is -31.5 dB, and the bandwidth below -10 dB is 112 MHz. In addition, since the gain of the antenna is -4 dBi, it has the omnidirectional radiation characteristic, so it can be applied to various fields as an antenna for mobile devices.

  • This paper presents the antenna factor characteristics of a calculable dipole antenna with a hybrid balun, installed above ground plane vertically and horizontally, using Method of Moments (MoM). An expression for the antenna factor is formulated using the concept of power mismatch loss. The input impedance and effective length of the antenna, which are in the formula of the antenna factor, are calculated using the MoM. The results show that the antenna factors above a ground plane are agreed with the free space antenna factors within ± 0.14 dB. The horizontal antenna factors are varied more by 0.2 dB than the vertical antenna factors.

  • UHF band omnidirectional antennas for RFID tag were designed. Crossed loaded dipole and bended dipole were applied to be designed for both miniaturization and omnidirectional radiation pattern. By suppling 90 degrees phase difference between crossed dipoles, omnidirectional E-plane patterns can be obtained. -10 dB reflection coefficients of 3 types dipole antenna which have designed under conjugate matched with input impedance of chip were shown as 670-1,050 MHz, 700-1,250 MHz and 600-1,020 MHz, respectively, and also shown that all antenna have omnidirectional radiation pattern both E and H plane.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact double dipole quasi-Yagi antenna with a V-shaped ground plane operating in dual bands including 2.45 GHz and 5 GHz wireless LAN frequency bands is studied. First, a quasi-Yagi antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz band is designed, and a V-shaped ground plane is used instead of a conventional strip ground plane to reduce the length of the antenna. A second dipole is connected to the dipole driver of the quasi-Yagi antenna for 2.45 GHz band and a director is appended for 5 GHz band operation. A prototype of the proposed dual-band antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band and 4.57-7.11 GHz band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 40 mm by 55 mm. Fabricated antenna shows frequency bands of 2.33-2.75 GHz and 4.38-7.5 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio less than 2. Measured gain remains more than 4 dBi in both bands.

  • In this paper, the resonance characteristics of zigzag wire dipole antennas are first analyzed by the method of moment(MOM) for shortening the space occupation length of straight wire dipole antenna Considering the shortening effect the integrated zigzag dipole antennas with the simplified microstrip feed are designed. Since the integration gives rise to discontinuities due to antenna line width with abrupt bend angles, the compensation by the chamfer is applied. Futhermore the integrated parasitic zigzag lines are properly attached to both sides of substrate for compensation of the effect of the dielectric substrate, hence improving the resonance characteristic. The design results at UHF and ISM band are verified with experiments.

  • This paper presents the analysis of forced resonance characteristics of electrically small dipole antenna loaded with external element and its application to measuring unknown frequencies. The method of moments with Galerkin's procedure is used to determine the current distribution of the antenna. To derive the determinantal equation of resonance lengths at a given frequency, small antennas with the reactance loaded can be treated as a two-port network. Numerical results show that the forced resonance of the electrically small dipole antenna loaded with reactance can be easily obtained by controlling the reactance for the series resonance as well as for the parallel resonance. It is demonstrated that the forced resonance characteristics can also be applied to the measurement of unknown frequencies.
