Study on light extraction efficiency of a side-etched LED (측면 식각된 LED의 광추출 효율에 관한 연구)

  • In the case of a AIGalnP/GaP system rectangular parallelepiped high brightness LED which has side walls etched to be slanted off the vertical direction, we have studied the effects of lossy electrodes and material absorption and etching depth and angle of side walls on its light extraction efficiency. If LEDs have no electrodes, in order to obtain an 80% light extraction efficiency of a TIP (truncated inverted pyramid) LED, the side-etched LEDs should have an etching angle of 22$^{\circ}$~45$^{\circ}$ and an etching depth of 8~17% of a dice height and an absorption coefficient less than 1 $cm^{-1}$ / In case of etching depth of 16~39% of a dice height, we can obtain a 90% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LED. But when LEDs have two electrodes and no absorption loss, in order to obtain an 80% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LEBs, the side-etched LEDs should have an etching angle of 25$^{\circ}$-45$^{\circ}$ and an etching depth of 30~36% of a dice height. In case of etching depth of 57~71% of a dice height, we can obtain a 90% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LED.

Optimization of Dies Angles to Improve the Dimensional Accuracy and Straightness of the Shaped Drawn Product based on the FE Simulation and the Taguchi Method (유한요소해석 및 다구찌법을 이용한 형상인발제품 치수정도 및 진직도 향상을 위한 다이스각 최적화)

  • Recently, rods having irregular sections more complex than a rectangle or ellipse are necessary to produce mechanical parts. The cold shaped drawing process is used to obtain shaped drawn products with high levels of dimensional accuracy and quality. A cross roller guide, considered in this study, is one of the parts produced by shaped drawing process. A cross roller guide has a linear bearing system that rolls along a guide way. A cross roller guide is one of the most important components in terms of equipment because the quality of the product influences the precision linear motion. Therefore, the final dimensional accuracy of the linear rail in the shaped drawing is very important. The objective of this study is to find the optimized die angles to improve the dimensional accuracy and straightness of the final shaped drawn product. In order to achieve the aim of this study, design of experiment, FE-simulation, and the Taguchi method were used. Based on the analytical results, shaped drawing experiment has been performed to verify the result.

Characteristics Evaluation of Process Parameters for Improvement the Precision of Thread ]tolling in Lead Screw (Lead Screw 전조 정밀도 향상을 위한 성형인자의 특성평가)

  • This paper summarizes the results of a numerical study conducted to analyze the effect of selected process parameters on material flow and thread profile in thread rolling of large diameter blanks. Based on the previous work where a plane strain mode was found to provide a reasonable approximation of the thread rolling process, the effect of varying thread form, friction factor, flow stress, and blank diameter on effective strain and thread height was analyzed using the finite element code DEFORM. This study show that effective strain for flank angle, that blank diameter had important effect on the as-rolled thread while flow stress, friction factor, and crest round of dies had significant impact on effective strain at the thread root and crest and load of thread rolling. While the rate of strain harding was found to have an effect on the crest profile, the results indicate that it is the primary factor responsible for seam formation in rolled threads.

Mechanical Effects of Pipe Drawing Angle and Reduction Rate on Material (파이프 인발 각도에 따른 기계적 효과 및 재료에 따른 감소율에 관한 연구)

  • Seamless pipes are fabricated by drilling a hole in a cylindrical material and drawing the material to the desired diameter. These pipes are used in environments where high reliability is required. In this study, the pipe drawing process was simulated using DEFORM, a commercial finite element method (FEM) analysis program. The outer diameter of the steel cylinder used herein before drawing was 70 mm, and the target outer diameter was 58 mm. The drawing process consisted of two stages. In this study, the effect of cross-sectional reduction rate on the pipe was investigated by varying the cross-sectional reduction rate in each step to achieve the target outer diameter. The results of this study showed that the first section reduction rate of 26% and the second section reduction rate of 13.9% caused the lowest damage to the material. Moreover, the FEM simulation results confirmed the influence of the drawing die angle on the pipe drawing process. The drawing die angles of 15° in the first step and 9° in the second step caused the least damage to the material.

A Hardware Implementation of Image Scaler Based on Area Coverage Ratio (면적 점유비를 이용한 영상 스케일러의 설계)

  • Unlike in analog display devices, the physical screen resolution in digital devices are fixed from the manufacturing. It is a weak point on digital devices. The screen resolution displayed in digital display devices is varied. Thus, interpolation or decimation of the resolution on the display is needed to make the input pixels equal to the screen resolution., This process is called image scaling. Many researches have been developed to reduce the hardware cost and distortion of the image of image scaling algorithm. In this paper, we proposed a Winscale algorithm. which modifies the scale up/down in continuous domain to the scale up/down in discrete domain. Thus, the algorithm is suitable to digital display devices. Hardware implementation of the image scaler is performed using Verilog XL and chip is fabricated in a 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ Samsung SOG technology. The hardware costs as well as the scalabilities are compared with the conventional image scaling algorithms that are used in other software. This Winscale algorithm is proved more scalable than other image-scaling algorithm, which has similar H/W cost. This image-scaling algorithm can be used in various digital display devices that need image scaling process.
