다수 개 빼기 성형에서 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형의 성형특성 비교 (Comparison of Molding Characteristics for Multi-cavity Molding in Conventional Injection Molding and Injection Compression Molding)

  • 일반사출성형은 공정 중 보압단계에서 캐비티에 높은 압력이 작용하여 성형품에 큰 잔류응력이 남게 된다. 또한 캐비티 내 위치 별로 압력분포가 달라 균일한 물성의 제품을 얻는데 한계가 있다. 다수 개 빼기 일반사출성형에서는 캐비티간 충전 불균형이 일어나 캐비티간 품질의 편차를 일으킨다. 이와 같은 한계를 극복하기 위해 사출압축성형 공정을 사용하는 경우가 많다. 본 연구에서는 다수 개 캐비티를 갖는 금형을 이용하여 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형을 비교 분석하였다. 실험과 해석을 통하여 연구를 수행하였으며 투명한 수지인 PC와 PS를 이용하여 시편에 나타나는 복굴절을 관찰하여 일반사출성형과 사출압축성형에서 나타나는 성형특성을 비교하였다. 연구결과, 사출 압축성형으로 제작된 시편에서 캐비티 내의 압력이 균일하여 복굴절과 성형수축률이 낮고 균일하게 나타났다. 그리고 일반사출성형에서 나타나는 캐비티간 충전 불균형에 의한 캐비티간 물성의 편차가 사출압축성형에서는 크게 줄어들었다. 본 연구를 통하여 사출압축성형은 다수 개 빼기 사출성형에서 캐비티 내 균일한 물성확보뿐만 아니라 캐비티간 품질 불균형을 해소하는데 유용함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • My company develops, manufactures injection mold and produces thin-walled cosmetics and food containers. Without high quality and low production cost, it is hard to compete in the market. To be competitive, a company has to utilize mold with as many cavities as possible to lower manufacturing cost. Eject plate abrasion and deformation cut down mold lifespan, troubles during injection lower productivity and foreign substances in molds cause abrasion. This study focuses on how to improve mold life and productivity, and to slow down mold abrasion.

다수 캐비티 사출금형에서의 균형 충전을 위한 러너 시스템 연구 (A study on the runner system for filling balance in multi-cavity injection molds)

  • 사출성형은 열가소성 수지의 가공법으로 정밀도나 고품질의 제품을 효과적으로 생산하는데 널리 이용되는 기술이다. 다수 캐비티 사출성형에서 캐비티 충전 불균형이 발생하는데 이러한 현상은 사출성형품의 치수 및 중량의 편차 뿐 아니라 물리적 특성에 영향을 미치고 있다. 충전 불균형은 충전 단계에서 러너 내에서 발생되는 불균일한 전단분포에 기인하여 발생되므로 점도 변화에 영향을 주는 수지의 물성, 사출조건 등 성형공정 조건 요인에 의해 충전 불균형의 양상이 다르게 된다. 본 논문에서는 점도 및 물성이 다른 PC, PP 수지에 대하여 성형조건에 따른 충전 현상을 관찰하고 원인을 분석하였고 사출속도에 따른 충전 불균형 현상의 원인을 고찰하기 위해 사출성형실험과 CAE 해석을 수행하였다. CAE 해석을 수행하여 각 수지마다 사출속도에 따른 충전 패턴 경향과 온도분포를 예측하고 캐비티 간 충전 균형을 위해 새로운 볼륨 러너 시스템을 제시하였고 캐비티 간 충전 균형을 확인 할 수 있었다.

  • For mass production of plastics, injection molds have multi-cavities. However, filling imbalance between cavity to cavity always has occurred in multi-cavities mold, and this has caused low quality of plastics part. In this study, the closed-loop-control system which can control temperature of hot manifold and nozzle in hot runner mold for filling balance has been suggested, and a series of experiment about difference of filling time and weight in cavity-to-cavity was conducted. As a result of using closed-loop-control system, a remarkable improvement in reducing filling imbalance was confirmed.

In order to maximize productivity and molding quality in a injection mold, it is important that each cavity in a multi-cavity injection mold is identical. This requires that cavity dimensions should be identical and delivery system of melt to each cavity have to be the same. Despite the geometrically balanced layout in multi-cavity injection mold more than 4 cavities, it has been observed that the filling in each cavity results in imbalances. Most of cases, this phenomenon of filling imbalances have a bad effect on dimension accuracy, warpage, molding appearance and strength of molding parts. In this study, experiment were conducted to investigate the effect of filling imbalances on the molding quality(surface gloss, shrinkage, tensile strength) in the multy-cavity injection mold.

  • Flow imbalance among the cavities was often observed in multi-cavity mold. The flow imbalance affects on the dimensions and physical properties of molded articles. First of all, the origin of flow imbalance is geometrical imbalance of delivery system. However, even the geometry of delivery system is balanced the cavity imbalance is being developed. This comes from the temperature distribution in the cross-section of runner, which is affected by the operational conditions. In this study, experimental study of flow imbalance has been conducted for various injection speeds. This study also suggests new runner design to eliminate flow imbalance in multi-cavity injection mold. Simulation and experimental results showed suggested new designed runner could eliminate or reduce flow imbalance in multi-cavity injection mold.

사출금형의 러너시스템 형상에 따른 균형 충전도 (Degree of Filling Balance according to Runner Shapes in Injection Mold)

  • Configuration of filling imbalance which is originated from imbalanced share rate of melt on runner is changed by runner layout, runner shape, material property, injection pressure, injection speed, melt temperature and mold temperature. In this paper, we conducted a study of runner layout and shape that are main factors of filling imbalance. Other factors such as the sharp corner effect and the groove corner effect are recently released were also considered. The results of study are showed that filling rate of between inside and outside cavity was influenced on shape of runner. Especially, this study suggests a new runner system for filling balance by adapting the two effects of unary branch type runner at multi cavity mold and theoretical investigated flow in the sharp corner type runner.

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have been observed. So, many studies for improving filling balance in the multi-cavities molds are worked up. In this study, the Melt-Buffer which is a new runner system for filling balance has been suggested, and a series of experiment about degree of filling balance in cavity-to-cavity was conducted in the mold with the Melt-Buffer. From the experiment, the filling balance was increased up to 5~6% by using the Melt-Buffer.

  • Injection molding is the one of the most important processes for mass production of plastic parts. Usually Injection molds for mass production are constituted to multi-cavity runner system to manufacture the more parts at a time. To uniformly fill to each cavity, multi-cavity molds are designed to geometrically balanced runner system. However. in practice this is not the case. The previous studies by Beaumount at.[2] reported that filling imbalance occurred by thermal unbalance on the mold and viscosity variation of resins and so on. In this study, we conducted experiments in order to know the causes or filling imbalance for 3 plate type mold with 8 cavities. We presented a new so called 4BF mold(4plate Type Balanced Filling Mold) to improve filling balance. We conducted a experimental injection molding to verify a efficiency of the 4BF mold. In the results of the experiment, We could confirmed the possibility of the 4BF mold.
