  • As the uploading and downloading of data through the Internet is becoming more common, data including personal information are easily exposed to unauthorized users. In this study, we detect a target area in images that contain personal information, except for the background, and we protect the detected target area by using a blocking method suitable for the surrounding situation. In this method, only the target area from color image input containing personal information is segmented based on skin color. Subsequently, blurring of the corresponding area is performed in multiple stages based on the surrounding situation to effectively block the detected area, thereby protecting the personal information from being exposed. Experimental results show that the proposed method blocks the object region containing personal information 2.3% more accurately than an existing method. The proposed method is expected to be utilized in fields related to image processing, such as video security, target surveillance, and object covering.

  • The noncontact optical sensor using the hologram laser and automatic power controller is developed to measure a thickness of transparent objects and achieve excellent performance. Due to the contact between the tip of the sensor and the surface of objects, the tip is abraded. In addition the casting glass under high temperature results in extending the size of sensor body. The accuracy of the sensor is degraded due to these reasons. In this paper, to overcome these problems, we proposed a low cost non-contact optical sensor that is composed of a hologram laser unit used for optical pickup of CD player and a plastic lens. Therefore the problems caused by the contact sensor are solved by using the noncontact sensor. The noncontact sensor has to move toward the objects and obtain the focus error signal to measure a position of transparent objects. While the internal temperature of the sensor is controlled under ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}$, many trials shows ${\pm}2{\mu}m$ measurement error as excellent performance.

  • Acoustic levitation induced by ultrasonic flexural vibration at 28.4 KHz with a vibration amplitude of 10 micrometers is presented. Levitation of multiple objects along the length of the beam in a gap of 8.3 mm which is the half of acoustic wavelength is experimentally demonstrated. Analytical analysis predicts that levitated objects for the gap of half-the wavelength converges to the center of the gap, which is experimentally verified. It is observed that levitated objects with well-balanced mass distribution are set into rotation due to acoustic streaming. For cylinder-shaped Styrofoam with a diameter of 1.8 mm and a length of 3 mm, measured rotational velocity is 2400 revolution per minute. Applications of standing wave field levitation (SWFL) include manipulation of biological cells and blood constituents in biotechnology, and fine powder in material engineering.

  • In this paper, we propose a single view-based technique for the estimation of human height and position. Conventional techniques for the estimation of 3D geometric information are based on the estimation of geometric cues such as vanishing point and vanishing line. The proposed technique, however, back-projects the image of moving object directly, and estimates the position and the height of the object in 3D space where its coordinate system is designated by a marker. Then, geometric errors are corrected by using geometric constraints provided by the marker. Unlike most of the conventional techniques, the proposed method offers a framework for simultaneous acquisition of height and position of an individual resident in the image. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique is verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences from outdoor environments.

  • Since vision-based surveillance system uses a conventional camera which has a narrow field of view, it is difficult to apply it into the environment whose the ceiling is low and the monitoring area is wide. To overcome this problem, the method of increasing the number of camera causes the increase of the cost and the difficulties of camera set-up For these problems, we propose a new surveillance system based on multiple fisheye cameras which have 180 degree field of view. The proposed method handles occlusions using the homography relation between the multiple fisheye cameras. In the experiment, four fisheye cameras were set up within the area of $17{\times}14m$ at height of 2.5 m and five people wandered and crossed with one another within this area. The detection rates of the proposed system was 83.0% while that of a single camera was 46.1%.

  • Three-dimensional image reconstruction allows us to represent real objects in the virtual space and observe the objects at arbitrary view points. This technique can be used in various application areas such as education, culture, and art. In this paper, we propose an implementation method of the high-quality three-dimensional object using multiple Kinect cameras released from Microsoft. First, We acquire color and depth images from triple Kinect cameras; Kinect cameras are placed in front of the object as a convergence form. Because original depth image includes some areas where have no depth values, we employ joint bilateral filter to refine these areas. In addition to the depth image problem, there is an color mismatch problem in color images of multiview system. In order to solve it, we exploit an color correction method using three-dimensional geometry. Through the experimental results, we found that three-dimensional object which is used the proposed method is more naturally represented than the original three-dimensional object in terms of the color and shape.

  • RFID technology has evolved from basic operation like the acquisition of tag IDs into a more complicated operation such as the simultaneous acquisition of tag IDs and their positions and recently, is raising the possibility of obtaining additional informations, which include their velocities, directions and distances. In this paper, we present a RFID system that can fullfil aforementioned advanced functions. In the proposed system, a tag transmits a sequence of FMCW pulses modulated by ID signals and a reader separates the tag signals in azimuth direction using an array antenna, followed by the FMCW demodulation from which distances, velocities as well as the tag IDs are extracted. We propose a receiver structure of the reader and theoretically analyze its operability. Moreover, its performance is examined by simulation.

  • If the groundwater in rock joint is changed into ice, it induces the stress increment by volume increase. Also, if the ice is changed into groundwater again, the stress in joint decreases by volume decrease. The accumulated displacement and fatigues of joints are increased by the stress-hysterisis, induced from the continuous frost-thawing. Also the shear strength is decreased by them continuously. The stress-hysterisis is affected by the atmospheric temperature changes, whose behavior is visco-elasticity, usually. Therefore, Kelvin model could be used to analyze the frost-thawing behavior in winter. The measured data of total 5 points are examined, which are composed of 3 points of shallow joints and 2 points of deep joints. Because shallow weathered rocks have many joints, a lot of Kelvin model are connected and the behaviors are complicated. In case of deep joints, simple Kelvin model is applied and the behaviors are also simple.

  • The Intelligent Space(ISpace) provides challenging research fields for surveillance, human-computer interfacing, networked camera conferencing, industrial monitoring or service and training applications. ISpace is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. According to the cooperation of many intelligent devices, the environment, it is very important that the system knows the location information to offer the useful services. In order to achieve these goals, we present a method for representing, tracking and human following by fusing distributed multiple vision systems in ISpace, with application to pedestrian tracking in a crowd. This paper described appearance based unknown object tracking with the distributed vision system in intelligent space. First, we discuss how object color information is obtained and how the color appearance based model is constructed from this data. Then, we discuss the global color model based on the local color information. The process of learning within global model and the experimental results are also presented.

  • Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an important and essential components of ubiquitous computing, with the development of wireless communication technologies and mobile computing environment. Recently, RFID becomes the mainstream application that helps fast handling and uniquely identifying the physical objects. It utilizes the electromagnetic energy for data transmission from a tag to a reader in the presence of arbitrary interference and noise. In order to employ the portable mobile RFID reader, a tag-collision problem between two or more adjacent tags should be considered. In this paper, we present the operation of RFID system in which numerous tags are present in the interrogation zone of a single reader at the same time. Since there may exist a number of tagged objects in the narrow area, multiple RFID tags may interfere each other, caused to degrade the data reliability and efficiency of the RFID system. In order to suppress interference signals from multiple neighboring tags, we present an application of Gold code for RFID communication system, which uses spread spectrum technique. In this RFID system, data bits are spreaded in each tags with the unique Gold code and the spreaded data bits are despreaded in the reader with the same Gold code. The performance analysis of the considered RFID anti-collision system is illustrated via computer simulation examples.
