Since the cement industry is expected to face serious setbacks in the near future associated with environmental concerns. With the advent of new technologies and increased public awareness about global environmental issues, the cement industry is actively seeking to adopt new technologies as part of an effort to diversity its resources. This study is designed to assess the fundamental properties of zeolite cement concrete which consists mainly of natural zeolite, which is known for removal of and harmful gas, ion exchange capacity removing cation contaminant including heavy metals and ammonia, absorptive capacity and molecular sieving effect together with excellent insulation capacity as a porous material, and recently draws much attention for its possibility as an alternative material to cement. The study was conducted to show the compressive strength of concrete, slump, bleeding and air volume according to the changes of natural zeolite and alkali activator(NaOH). As a result of measuring the compressive strength of natural zeolite concrete, it was almost 40MPa and displayed similar to general concrete in the tests of slump, bleeding and air volume, with which it was considered that it may be used as a future high performance, high performance construction material.

Lightweight geopolymers are more readily produced and give higher fire resistant performance than foam cement concrete. Lowering the density of solid geopolymers can be achieved by inducing chemical reactions that entrain gases to foam the geopolymer structure. This paper reports on the effects of adding different concentrations of aluminum powder on the properties of cellular structured geopolymers. The apparent density of lightweight geopolymers has a range from 0.7 to $1.2g/m^3$ with 0.025, 0.05 and 0.10 wt% of a foaming agent concentration, which corresponds to about 37~60 % of the apparent density, $1.96g/cm^3$, of solid geopolymers. The compressive strength of cellular structured geopolymers decreased to 6~18 % of the compressive strength, 45 MPa of solid geopolymers. The microstructure of geopolymers gel was equivalent for both solid and cellular structured geopolymers. The workability of geopolymers with polyprophylene fibers needs to be improved as in fiber-reinforced cement concrete. The lightweight geopolymers could be used as indoor wall tile or board due to fire resistance and incombustibility of geopolymers.

In this experimental, water-repellent powder, which is a metal salt-based inorganic substance, and natural zeolite powder, which is a pozzolan-based material, were mixed into cement mortar, and their physical properties and resistance to moisture were confirmed. It was confirmed that the test specimen using natural zeolite at the same time had excellent resistance in the water permeation test and the chloride penetration test as compared with the test specimen in which the inorganic metal salt-based water-repellent powder was mixed alone. When a metal salt-based water-repellent powder is used, it cannot be uniformly dispersed inside water due to its insoluble property, and is limited to the surface. When used at the same time as natural zeolite, the setting time at the initial stage of hydration is fast due to the pozzolan reaction, and the water-repellent powder adheres to the porous of the natural zeolite and is evenly distributed inside the test specimen to generate some water resistance.

Recently, a number of studies have been conducted on photocatalysts and adsorbents that can remove harmful substances to improve environmental problems related to fine particles. In this study, a porous foam composites were fabricated using palm-based activated carbon having a large amount of micro-pores and foam concrete with a significantly larger total pore volume compared to general construction materials. To evaluate the adsorption potential of fine particles, the pore structure of the foam composites were analyzed. For the analysis of the pore structure of the foam composite, BET and Harkins-jura theory were applied from the measured nitrogen adsorption isotherm. From the results of the analysis, the specific surface area and micro-pore volume of the foam composite containing activated carbon increased significantly compared to Plain. As thereplacement of activated carbon increased, the specific surface area and micro-pore volume of the foam composite tended to increase. It seems that the foam composite has high adsorption performance for gaseous fine particle precursor such as nitrogen oxides.

On the international provision on prohibition of ocean dumping of waste, tap water sludge has been buried or recycled on th low value added product as landfill. Due to the tap water sludge having high inorganic content, differing from the sewage sludge, it is possible to use as a usable resource by suitable process. We have studied on hydro thermal processing of tap water sludge with phosphoric acid and finally synthesize a artificial zeolite having a deodorization property. To use it as a building material, it has to be solidification. This study is on the properties of artificial zeolite synthsized and solidification properties by various types of solidifier. It is showed that the slaked lime is the best on setting property and its optimum content is 30-60 weight proportion. Solid by solidified by slaked lime has low strength and excellent deodorization performance, so it is possible to use as a functional pannel as gypsum board.

Large amounts of waste shells have been produced each year from shellfish raising industries located in Korean costal areas. Due to the limited space for the waste shell disposal, the related environmental problem has been a serious issue. It is believed that using the waste shells as a source of aggregate for mortar, concrete or bricks can be a good solution. In this research, possibility of utilizing waste shells as an aggregate of mortar is investigated. Waste shells of manila clam, cockle, clam, sea mussel, and oyster were properly crushed, sieved, and sorted to meet the requirements of the grading of standard fine aggregate. After that, the waste shells were used as partial and total replacement of the fine aggregate, and their absorption and 28-day compressive strengths of mortar were measured. In general, replacement of waste shells increased the absorption and decreased the strength. However, one specimen with cockle increased compressive strength as replacement ratio increased. Mortar with cockle of 50% and 100% replacement showed higher compressive strength than that of control mortar. This increase of compressive strength was found to be affected by the strong interfacial bonding properties of the cockle and a cement matrix.

In this study, the mechanical properties, absorption, and reduction performance of NOx in the mortar containing mineral admixture like zeolite and active hwangtoh were evaluated. Zeolite and active hwangtoh were used as binder, and zeolite and active hwangtoh were substituted for cement. The substitution ratio of two types of mineral admixtures was considered as 20 and 30% respectively. As a result of evaluating the compressive strength and flexural strength of each mortar specimen, the highest strength in the plain mixture was evaluated. As the substitution ratio of zeolite and active hwangtoh increased, the compressive and flexural strength decreased. In addition, the difference of compressive and flexural strength between active hwangtoh and zeolite mixing was evaluated to be insignificant. To evaluate the absorption rate, the mixture was designed to lower the W/B ratio of the existing mixture and set the substitution ratio of active hwangtoh and zeolite at 25%. The highest absorption ratio in the mortar with zeolite was evaluated, and the difference in absorption ratio between the remaining two mortar mixtures was small. The assessment of reduction performance of NOx considering the application of photocatalyst showed a clearly decreasing reduction behavior, even if they were the same mortar mixture. Zeolite and active hwangtoh also showed a higher NOx reduction than the Plain mixture, because of their porosity properties. In the case of active hwangtoh, the absorption ratio was lower than that of zeolite mixture, but the reduction of NOx performance was better than the result of zeolite mixture.

Particulate matter is divided into PM10 (particle diameter of 10 ㎛ or less) and PM2.5 (particle diameter of 2.5 ㎛ or less), which are approximately 1/5 of the thickness of the hair. Due to its effect on the human body, lung disease, arteriosclerosis and heart It is known as a carcinogen that causes various diseases such as diseases. It is known that the main cause of such fine dust is nitrogen dioxide (NOx), which is emitted from automobiles in about 57.3% of urban roadsides. Therefore, in this study, as part of the development of functional construction materials to reduce NOx generated from road transport pollutants, comparative evaluation of NOx reduction performance was conducted according to the replacement rate of cement mortar in which cement was replaced with a porous material. In addition, the NOx reduction performance of cement mortar according to the photocatalyst application method and the number of applications was compared an d evaluated. As a result of the experiment, when activated ocher was substituted by 30%, it showed a reduction effect of about 32.7%, showing the best reduction performance.

In this study, the physical and chemical properties of mortar are evaluated by micro-analysis, taking into account the substitution rate(20%, 30%, and 40%) of zeolite with porous properties and active hwangtoh. First, the physical and chemical properties of zeolite and active hwangtoh are reviewed to confirm that the specific surface area of those is similar with ordinary portland cement, and the main chemical composition is SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, etc.. So, it is thought that they have the properties of pozolan reactive materials. As the results of the strength test considering the amount of substitution based on that of cement, It is confirmed that strength decreases with the increase of the replacement amount of zeolite and active hwangtoh, and the strength of mortar with replacement rate of 20% is higher than OPC mortar. It is confirmed that the amount of porosity is increased due to chemical properties of zeolite and active hwangtoh, and in particular, the size of the pore is greater than 1㎛ in mortar mixed with active hwangtoh.

Concrete is a construction material with porous media and corroded steel inside affects negatively to durability and structural safety. This study aims a derivation of quantitative relationship between measured HCP (Half Cell Potential) and corrosion amount considering cover depth and W/C (water to cement) ratio. For the work, cement mortar specimens with 3 different W/C ratios and 4 different cover depths are prepared, HCPs are measured with 3 different corrosion level. HCP measurement significantly increases in the saturated condition and linear relationship is observed between corrosion level and acceleration period. With increasing corrosion level and W/C ratio, and decreasing cover depth, HCP measurement increases. Considering total corrosion level and HCP measurements, relatively low COV(Coefficient of Variation) of 0.67 is evaluated through multi-linear regression analysis, however higher COVs over 0.90 can be obtained considering level of HCP measurement. In the room condition, corrosion level can be evaluated through measured HCP in the given conditions of cover depth, W/C ratio. diameter of steel inside.
