  • The ring-opening isomerization polymerization behavior of 2,5,6,7-tetrahydro-3H-imidazo[2,1-b] [1,3] oxazine(TII) has been studied under various conditions. The present study aimed at improving the low polymerizability of the above monomer (six-membered ring) up to a level comparable to that of 2,5,6-tetrahydroimidazo[2,1-b] [l,3] oxazole(TIO) (five-membered ring). The optimum result could be observed when methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate(MeOTf) and nitrobenzene were used as an initiator and a solvent in the polymerization at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. Polymers were confirmed by$^1H$ NMR과$^{13}C$ NMR, and m measurements. The molecular weight obtained by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) corresponded to the molecular weight theoretically calculated from the feed ratio. The melting temperature ($T_m$) of TII was conspicuously different from that of TIO, because of the difference in the alkyl group.

  • Chemical compositions and chemical structure of lignin and alkali cooking condition and fiber length of red pepper were investigated and compared to those of woods. The chemical compositions of red pepper were higher component of extraction than that of wood. The contents of carbon and hydrogen of Klason lignin in red pepper were similar to that of pine and birch wood. On the other hand, the contents of oxygen and nitrogen of Klason lignin in the red pepper were higher than that of wood. The result of nitrobenzene oxidation shows that Klason lignin of red pepper was similar to lignin of softwood. The best alkali cooking condition of red pepper was 0.2%-anthraquinone, active alkali of 20% and liquor ratio of 1:7. The fiber length of red pepper was about 0.47 mm. Therefore, the red pepper fiber will be able to use special purpose of short fiber.

  • Quercus serrata degraded by Leminus edodes(berk) Singer was investigated. In order to evaluate on affect of the fungi on the sound logs, and the logs attacted for 2 years and five years were used as a sample tree. Large portions of carbohydrate mainly was decomposed by the fungy. It is supported by the increasing of alkaline extractives and the breaking up of crystallinity. Lignin is transformed considerably as shown the results of the determination of Klason lignin, gel filtration and nitrobezene oxidation. On the other hand, the decreasing of methoxyl group and the increasing of carboxyl group in parallel with demethlation and acidification are presented. Syringyl nuclei unit is decomposed easier than guaiacyl unit. It is also illustrated that the more decreasing of carboxyl group compared with aldehyde group was acidified biodegradation.

  • Z-1-Ethyl-2-nitro-l-butenyl-(4'-methyl)-phenyl sulfone, C$_{13}$H$_{17}$NO$_4$S, Mr = 293.4, monoclinic space group P2$_1$/c, a = 12.194(7), b = 7.290(4), c = 16.532(14)${\AA}$, ${\beta}$ = 103.4(2)$^{\circ}$, V = 1429.5 ${\AA}^3$, Z = 4, D$_c$ = 1.32 gcm$^{-3}$, ${\lambda}$(Mo K${\alpha}$) = 0.71069 ${\AA}$, ${\mu}$ = 2.2 cm$^{-1}$, F(000) = 600, T = 298 K, R = 0.030 for 1762 unique observed reflections with I > 1.0${\sigma}$(I). A molecule has a cis-typed molecular structure having the form of "the substituted butene backbone, C-C(S)=C(NO$_2$)-C, connecting to a sulfur atom with the methylbenzene ring and to a nitro group. The methylbenzene ring and the substituted butene moiety are nearly planar with the maximum deviations from their own molecular planes, 0.018 ${\AA}$ for the C(1) atom of the benzene group and 0.045 ${\AA}$ for the N atom of the NO$_2$ group, respectively. The angles to the plane of the butene backbone are 88.5$^{\circ}$from the plane of the methyl-benzene and 78.6$^{\circ}$from the plane of the nitro group. Rotation of the nitro group from the butene plane seems to reduced contribution of resonance structure involving the nitro group, and resultant repulsion between the O(2) atom of SO$_2$ and the O(3) atom of NO$_2$ appears to be 2.894 ${\AA}$ longer than an expected van der Waals distance of 2.80 ${\AA}$.

  • The direct current polarographic behavior of 4n-BAR in dimethylsulfoxide as an aprotic solvent have been investigated. The reduction of 4n-BAR in 0.05M sodium perchlorate solution proceeds along two one-electron steps to give the corresponding compound containing hydrazo groups, each reduction wave was considerably diffusion controlled and irreversible. By addition of acid HAc to 4n-BAR in DMSO solvent, the two reduction waves have coalesced into one in the condition M $\geq$ mole ratio, acid/reductant(M = 2), the slope of $log(i_d-i)(Mi_d/2-i)/i$/ vs. (-E) is irreversible along one-electron steps reduction waves.

  • Rates of reactions of 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene and 2,4-dinitrobromobenzene with para substituted anilines in acetonitrile-methanol binary mixtures have been measured. It has been shown that methanol acts as nucleophilic catalyst upon reaction of 2,4-dinitrobromobenzene with anilines and as bifunctional catalyst upon reaction of 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene with anilines. The electrophilic catalysis by methanol probably consists of formation of hydrogen bond in the transition state between alcoholic hydrogen and leaving group, fluorine. Nucleophilic catalysis by methanol may be ascribed to formation of hydrogen bond between alcoholic oxygen and amine hydrogen in the transition state.

  • A procedure for the high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of Nebramycin factors in fermentation broth of Streptoalloteichus hindustanus ATCC 31218 mutant was investigated using pre-column derivatization and LTV detection. The method is based on pre-column derivatization of Nebramycin factors with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene(DNFB) in the presence of Tris (hydroxymethyl)aminoethane. The chromatographic separation of derivatives of Nebramycin factors and unknown impurities is achieved using reversed-phase column (NOVA-PAK $C_{18}$, Waters Co.) and AcCN : H$_{2}$O : AcOH (53.0:46.5:0.5) as a mobile phase. The mixture of these derivatives were separated within 35 minutes and the optimum wavelength($\lambda_{max}$ ) of the UV detector was 353 nm. The linearity of response for derivatives of Nebramycin factors is demonstrated for concentrations up to 500 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml and the relative standard deviation is less than 0.79%. Detection limit was 1.67 ng for the 10 $\mu\textrm{l}$ sample volume employed.

  • As increasing the use of pesticides both in number and amount to boost crop production, consumer concerns over food quality and safety with respect to residual pesticides are also continuously increasing. However, there is still lacking of information that can effectively help to remove residual pesticides in foods. In recent years, contaminant removal by gas (or) glow discharge plasma (GDP) attracts great interests on environmental scientists because of its high removal efficiency and environmental compatibility. It was shown to be effective for the removal of some organophosphorus pesticides, phenols, benzoic acid, dyes, and nitrobenzene on solid substrate or in aqueous solution. This work mainly focuses on the removal of wide range of residual pesticides from fresh fruits and vegetables. As for preliminary study, the experiments were carried out to investigate whether GDP can be used as an effective tool for degrading target pesticides or not. With this objective, 60 selected pesticides drop wised onto glass slides were exposed to two types of GDP, dielectric barrier discharge plasma (DBDP) and low pressure discharge plasma (LPDP), for 5 min. Then, they were washed with 2 mL MeCN which were collected and used for determination of remaining concentration of pesticides using LC-MS/MS. Among selected pesticides, degradation of 18 pesticides (endosulfan-total was counted as one pesticide) by GDP could not be examined because control treatments, which were left in ambient environment, of those pesticides recovered less than 70% or even did not recover. However, majority of tested pesticides (42) were degraded by both types of GDP with satisfactory recovery (>80%) of control sample. Pesticides degradation ranged from 66.88% to 100% were achieved by both types of plasma except clothianidin which degradation in LPDP was 26.9%. The results clearly indicate that both types of gas discharge plasma are promising tools for degrading wide range of pesticides on glass substrate.

  • In environmental friendly aspects, the synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol using carbon monoxide and oxygen gases which were produced in petrochemical plants was studied. The oxidative carbonylation of glycerol under batch reaction system was performed on parameter conditions such as effect of various metals (Cu, Pd, Fe, Sn, Zn, Cr), oxidizing agents, mole ratio of carbon monoxide to oxygen, catalyst amount, solvent types, reaction temperature and time and dehydrating agents. In particular copper chloride catalysts showed the excellent activities, and the glycerol carbonate yields over CuCl and $CuCl_2$ catalysts were the maximum of 44% and 64%, respectively at the following reaction conditions: solvent as nitrobenzene, mole ratio of 1:3:0.15 (glycerol:carbon monoxide:catalyst), mole ratio of 2:1 (carbon monoxide:oxygen), the total pressure of 30 bar at 413 K for 4 hr. It was found that reactivity were significantly different depending on the oxidation number of Cu catalysts, and oxygen plays an important role as oxidizing agents in producing H2O during oxidation reaction after carbonylation of glycerol.

  • In the present paper two new thiosemicarbazones i.e., 4[N-(4'-ethylbenzalidene)amino]antipyrine thiosemicarbazone (EBAAPTS) and 4[N-(2',4'-dimethylbenzalidene)amino]antipyrine thiosemicarbazone (DMBAAPTS) have been synthesized and characterized. The complexing abilities of these thiosemicarbazones i.e. EBAAPTS and DMBAAPTS towards cobalt(II) and nickel(II) salts have been explored. The reactions of the hot ethanolic solutions of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) salts with EBAAPTS and DMBAAPTS led to the formation of the novel complexes of general composition [$MX_2(L)H_2O$] (M=$Co^{2+}$ or $Ni^{2+}$; X=$Cl^-$, $Br^-$, $NO_3^-$, $NCS^-$ or $CH_3COO^-$; L=EBAAPTS or DMBAAPTS). The newly synthesized complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, molar mass, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, infrared and electronic spectral studies. The molar conductance measurements of the complexes in nitrobenzene correspond to their non-electrolytic nature. All the complexes are of high-spin type. On the basis of spectral studies an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes of the type [$MX_2(L)H_2O$]. These complexes were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities on different species of pathogens, fungi and bacteria and their biopotency has been discussed.
