This study is to determine the significant effect of white and pink noise on brain. The brain synchronization has been analyzed under the condition of non-noise, white nose and pink noise(male 10, female 10, mean age $23.3{\pm}2.14$). As a result of analysis, pink noise stimulus, alpha, low beta band, and high beta band were significantly decreased than non-noise and white noise. In addition, these brain response pattern significantly increased at frontal lobe and temporal lobe, and dominated on the right hemisphere. This result is considered to be useful of sound design in driving quality of human life on the basis of neuroscience.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of buthanol (BuOH) fraction of pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb et Zucc) needle on cholesterol and lipofuscin (LF) accumulations, acetylcholine (ACh) and its related enzyme activities such as choline acetyltransferase (CAhT) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and monoamone oxidase-B (MAO-B) activity, which destroyed the catecholamine-related neurotransmitters in brain membranes of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Male SD rats were fed basic diets (control group) or experimental diets (BuOH-25, BuOH-50 and BuOH-100) for 45 days. Cholesterol accumulations in mitochondria and microsomes were significantly inhibited (about 14 - 17% and 23 - 34%, respectvely) in BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups, whereas LF levels were significantly inhibited (about 10 - 14%) in BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups compared with control group. ACh levels and ChAT activities were significantly increased (about 11 - 17% and 11 - 23%, respectively) in membranes of BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups compared with control group. AChE activities were significantly increased (about 14 - 17%) in membranes of BuOH-50 and BuOH-100 groups. There was no significant difference in MAO-B activities between control and experimental diet groups. The results suggest that butanol fraction of pine needle may play an effective role in an antiaging effect and improving a learning and memory impairments.
Food is crucial for the nutrition and survival of humans. Taste system is one of the fundamental senses. Taste cells detect and respond to five basic taste modalities (sweet, bitter, salty, sour, and umami). However, the cortical processing of taste sensation is much less understood. Recently, there were many efforts to observe the brain activation in response to taste stimulation using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and optical imaging. These different techniques do not provide directly comparable data each other, but the complementary investigations with those techniques allowed the description and understanding of the sequence of events with the dynamics of the spatiotemporal pattern of activation in the brain in response to taste stimulation. The purpose of this study is the understanding of the brain activities to taste stimuli in sensory and affective aspects and the reviewing of the recent research of the gustotopic map by functional brain mapping.

Abilities of various edible plants and natural antioxidants to protect brain against oxidative damages were evaluated using brain homogenate of perfused Sprague-Dawley rat. Oxidative damage, expressed as lipid peroxidation (LPO), indicating total quantity of malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxyalkenal, increased from 4.1 to 6.9nmol/mg protein by treatment of $2.5{\mu}M$ ferrous sulfate and 7.5mM hydrogen peroxide as source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on brain homogenate for 10min at $37^{\circ}C$ Mallow(88%) in leafy vegetables, small potato (93%) in root vegetables, green red pepper (76%) in fruit vegetables, and avocado (96%) in fruits showed highest LPO inhibition capacities. Ability of mushrooms decreased in order of nameko, shiitake, pine mushroom, oyster mushroom, and new type pine mushroom. Among natural antioxidants tested, (+)catechin (91%), (-)epigallocatechin gallate (85%), (-)epicatechin gallate (83%), and kaempferol(83%) showed high LPO inhibition capacities.

This study was designed to investigate the biochemical pollutant marker for diagnosis of marine pollutions by changes in oxygen radicals and their scavenger enzymes of the flounder (Pleuronichthys cornutus) in the Yellow Sea of Korea Protein contents in brain and muscle of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were remarkably lower $(15\~45\%,\;and\;35\~45\%,\;respectively)$ than those of wild flounder in Pohang (control) of the East Sea. Lipid peroxide (LPO) levels in serum of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were Significantly higher $(30\~70\%)$ than those of wild flounder in Pohang. Hydroxyl radical formations in serum of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were significantly high $(15\~90\%)$ than those of wild flounders in Pohang. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in serum of wild flounders in the yellow Sea were significantly lower $(20\~40\%)$ than those of wild flounders in Pohang, and glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) activities in brain of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were also significanlty lower $(10\~60\%)$ than those of wild flounders in Pohang. These results suggest that significantly decreases of protein contents in brain and muscle, remarkable in creases of malondialdehyde (LPD) in serum and decreases of SOD and GSHPx activities in serum and brain of wild flounders of the Yellow Sea may be used as a biochemical pollutant markers for diagnosis of marine pollutions.
Background: Exercise influences the generation of brain cells through learning and experience in the process of acquiring motor skills and helps improve brain function. It is necessary to scientifically verify how brain wave activity, a method of analyzing brain function, affects movement. Purposes: We scientifically identify the positive effects on EEG activity when applying complex functional linear ladder movements in an appropriate environment. Methods: After recruiting 30 male university students, we divided them into a linear ladder exercise group, a treadmill exercise group, and a control group, and exercise was applied and measured repeatedly for ten weeks. Results: There was a statistically significant change between groups in the left prefrontal lobe of alpha waves when exercise was applied (p < .05). Conclusions: Although exercise has a positive effect on EEG, line ladder exercise, which applies a complex pattern and produces more leg movement, appears to have a better impact on brain function than traditional aerobic exercise.

Flounder brain cytosol contains protein inhibitors that markedly inhibit the activity of partially purified brain membrane phospholipase D (PLD) which is dependent on phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate ($PIP_2$) but insensitive to ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF), The PLD inhibitors have been enriched through several chromatographic steps and characterized with respect to size and mechanism of inhibition. Sequential chromatography of the brain cytosol yielded six inhibitor fractions, Two (IIA and IIB) of six inhibitor fractions showed the $PIP_2$-phosphatase activities. IIA was identified as synaptojanin, a nerve terminal protein that has known to be a member of the inositolpolyphosphate 5-phosphatase family, by immunoblot analysis. IIB showed an apparent molecular mass of 158 kDa by Superose 12 gel filtration chromatography and was immunologically distinct from synaptojanin. IIB hydrolyzed $PIP_2$, yielding only phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP) as product, suggesting that IIB hydrolyzes only one phosphate from either the 4- or 5-position of PI (4,5)$P_2$. These studies demonstrate that the existence of multiple $PIP_2$-phosphatases have been implicated in the negative regulation of $PIP_2$-dependent PLD activity within flounder brain.
This study was designed to investigate the biochemical pollutant markers for diagnosis of marine pollutions by changes in cholinesterase activity of the flounder (Pleuronichthys cornutus) in the Yellow Sea of Korea. Acetylchotinesterase (AChE) activities in brain and muscle of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were significantly lower $(20\~30\%\;and\;10\~40\%,\;respectively)$ than those of wild flounder in Pohang (control) of the last Sea. Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activities in brain and muscle of wild flounders in the Yellow Sea were significantly lower $(10\~30\%\;and\;35\~45\%,\;respectively)$ than those of wild flounder in Pohang of the East Sea. lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities in serum of wild flounders in the yellow Sea were significantly $(about\;30\%)$ lower than those of wild flounder in Pohang of the East Sea. These results suggest that AChE and BChE activities in brain and muscle of wild flounders of the Yellow Sea may be used as the most effective mean in a biochemical marker for diagnosis of pollutant effects by organophosphorus pesticides.
