In this paper, we presented the results of analysis with data obtained through EEG measurements to confirm the effect of musical stimulus when performing mathematical tasks. While the subject was solving a mathematical task, favorite and unfavorite music classified according to the subject's preference were presented as musical stimulus and the tasks were divided into memorization task and procedure task. The data measured in the EEG experiments was divided into theta waves, SMR waves and mid-beta waves which are the frequency bands related to concentration to compare the relative power spectrum values. In our results, in the case of comparing no music with favorite music and no music with unfavorite music, a significant difference was observed in the several channels, and the average difference was shown in the channels F3 and F4 of the frontal lobe. In that channels, the power was found to be greater when the music was presented than the case where there was no music. Depending on the subject's preference, it was confirmed that favorite music showed greater brain activity than unfavorite music.
Epilepsy is a disorder that causes recurring seizures, and the most objective and useful test for detecting epilepsy is the electroencephalogram (EEG). The subjects of this study are 244 patients who received an EEG after being diagnosed with epilepsy at Seoul National University Hospital in 2014, and who have agreed to the purpose of the study. Based on the EEG results, subjects were divided into normal and abnormal groups with 122 subjects in each group, regardless of their gender and age, to investigate the correlation of EEG and complete blood cell count (CBC) test results. The four significant categories that displayed significant correlation between EEG results and CBC hematological measurements in this study were the white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), neutrophil, and lymphocyte tests. The WBC (p<0.05) and neutrophil (p<0.01) showed a positive correlation with EEG results, while RBC (p<0.05) and lymphocyte (p<0.01) showed a negative correlation. One of the limitations of this study is that it is lacking the blood test result analysis according to the types of anti-epilepsy medicine. However, the analysis of EEG results by the same disease has significant meaning. Therefore, further studies are needed to statistically analyze more data in the future.

In this paper, we present the method to effectively extract and classify the EEG caused by only brain activity when a normal subject is in a state of mental activity. We measure the synchronous EEG on the auditory event when a subject who is in a normal state thinks of a specific task, and then shift the baseline and reduce the effect of biological artifacts on the measured EEG. Finally we extract only the mental task signal by averaging method, and then perform the recognition of the extracted mental task signal by computing the AR coefficients. In the experiment, the auditory stimulus is used as an event and the EEG was recorded from the three channel $C_3-A_1$, $C_4-A_2$ and $P_Z-A_1$. After averaging 16 times for each channel output, we extracted the features of specific mental tasks by modeling the output as 12th order AR coefficients. We used total 36th order coefficient as an input parameter of the neural network and measured the training data 50 times per each task. With data not used for training, the rate of task recognition is 34-92 percent on the two tasks, and 38-54 percent on the four tasks.

The purpose of this work is to suggest the optimal color temperature, which induces a sense of comfort for autonomous vehicle users through the analysis of biosignal using electroencephalography (EEG) and photoplethysmography (PPG). To achieve this purpose, we applied lighting with a color temperature of 3000 K, 4000 K, 5000 K, and 6000 K to the autonomous driving environment. We experimented in a laboratory equipped with a graphic driving simulator. The experimental procedure is as follows: 1) stabilization (5 min). 2) Uchida-Kraepelin test (3 min). 3) Automatic driving + lighting (3 min). This procedure was repeated four times under different color temperatures. We performed frequency analysis on a collected time-series data and calculated the power value for each frequency band through power spectrum analysis. In the case of EEG, we analyzed α- and β-waves, which are indicators of stability and arousal, respectively. In the case of PPG, we analyzed the sympathetic nervous system activity. To reduce deviations between the subjects, we normalized the data before analysis. The result of the first analysis revealed that α-wave increased only at 5000 K, while the β-wave increased at almost all color temperatures. In addition, in the case of PPG, sympathetic nervous system activity (SNSA) increased under driving conditions. The result of the second analysis revealed that the difference between β-wave and SNSA is insignificant. In conclusion, the increase in α-waves showed that EEG was most stable at 5000 K. The results of this study can be applied to the upcoming autonomous driving era to induce high driver satisfaction. Furthermore, this approach could eventually lead to the acceptance of autonomous vehicles by suggesting a positive effect of autonomous driving.
Brand identity (BI) is a key asset that affects consumers' psychological cognition of products and services. In the initial planning stage of the BI design development for a company, a unique approach strategy is required. In the final evaluation stage, a reasonable design evaluation method involving potential consumers needs to be prepared. However, conventional brand identity design evaluation processes tend to depend on the results of surveys, and in many cases it is impossible to be free from the distorting phenomenon of survey respondents' psychological manifestation which is often revealed in the process of the surveys. In this context, this research has explored whether the method of utilizing EEG data of the subjects along with the conventional survey method of preference could be helpful in the process of evaluating the brand identity design. To achieve that, we correlated the subject's preference survey results with the subject's EEG data. 'Attractiveness' and 'concentration' were used as variables. As a result, it was found that there was a high correlation between the results of preference survey on 'attractiveness' and the results of 'EEG' on 'concentration'. Therefore, in addition to the existing conventional qualitative evaluation methods, we confirmed that design evaluation methods using EEG are useful for evaluating tacit knowledge objects such as the BI design.
Through the output of brain waves during muscle operation, this paper checks whether it is possible to find characteristic vectors of brain waves that are capable of dividing left and right movements by extracting brain waves in specific areas of muscle signal output that include the motion of the left and right muscles or the will of the user within EEG signals, where uncertainties exist considerably. A typical surface EMG and noninvasive brain wave extraction method does not exist to distinguish whether the signal is a motion through the degree of ionization by internal neurotransmitter and the magnitude of electrical conductivity. In the case of joint and motor control through normal robot control systems or electrical signals, signals that can be controlled by the transmission and feedback control of specific signals can be identified. However, the human body lacks evidence to find the exact protocols between the brain and the muscles. Therefore, in this paper, efficiency is verified by utilizing the results of application of CSP (Common Spatial Pattern) filter to verify that the left-hand and right-hand signals can be extracted through brainwave analysis when the subject's behavior is performed. In addition, we propose ways to obtain data through experimental design for verification, to verify the change in results with or without filter application, and to increase the accuracy of the classification.

This paper describes an EEG(electroencephalogram) software for two-channel cerebral function monitoring system to detect the cerebral ischemia. In the software, two-channel bipolar analog EEG signals are digitized and from the signals various EEG parameters are extracted and displayed on a monitor in real-time. Digitized EEG signal is transformed by FFT(Fast Fourier transform) and represented as CSA(compressed spectral array) and DSA(density spectral array). Additional 5 parameters, such as alpha ratio, percent delta, spectral edge frequency, total power, and difference in total power, are estimated using the FFT spectra. All of these are effectively merged in a monitor and displayed in real-time. Through animal experiments and clinical trials on men, the software is modified and enhanced. Since the software provides raw EEG, CSA, DSA, simultaneously with additional 5 parameters in a monitor, it is possible to observe patients multilaterally. For easy comparison of patient's status, reference patterns of CSA, DSA can be captured and displayed on top of the monitor. And user can mark events of surgical operation and patient's conditions on the software, this allow him jump to the points of events directly, when reviewing the recorded EEG file afterwards. Other functions, such as forward/backward jump, gain control, file management are equipped and these are operated by simple mouse click. Clinical tests in a university hospital show that the software responds accurately according to the conditions of patients and medical doctors can use the software easily.

The present study identified the brain based learning activities on the individual learning senses by using the brain laterality and the whole brain index. Students receive the information through the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses by Politano and Paquin's (2000) classification. These learning senses are reflected on brain by the various combinations of senses for learning. Measuring the types of the learning senses involving in brain laterality and whole brain is required to figure out the related learning styles. Self-directed learning involved in the learning senses shows the problem-based learning associated to the brain function by emphasizing the balanced brain utilization which is known as whole brain. These research results showed the successful whole brain learning is closely associated with elevated auditory learning and elevated visual learning in sensorimotor brainwave rhythm (SMR) while it shows the close association with elevated kinesthetic and elevated visual learning in beta brainwave rhythm.

In this paper, we raise a question: what makes presence in artistic works. Presence has been defined as a physiological and emotional feeling which feels that he or she is immerged in a specific artworks when he/she is very interested in the artwork. We design and implemented an abstract media art "The Light" which uses the color, trace, and interactivity of light to measure quantitative presence. Frequency spectrum of light on specific object which we perceive makes color; Motion of light and its impact on object makes shape which perceived in our human visual system; Interactivity or perceived distance between object and observer makes intensity of perception. We experimented our images with subjective survey which includes PQS (presence questionnaire survey) and objective test using brain signals (EEG). From our interactive experimental moving images tested on 30 subject, we conclude that we can make more presence as we interact more with images. Photo-realistic images is just pass-by and it is transformed to abstract images, as we more focused on the images, and the essential components of the abstraction includes color, trace, and interaction with subjects.
