The Removal Characteristics of THM Formation Potential According to the Changes of Bromide Concentration of Influent Water in BAC Process (생물활성탄 공정에서 계절별 유입수의 $Br^-$ 농도변화에 따른 THM 생성능 구성종별 제거 특성)

  • The purpose of this research is the evaluation of removal efficiency of THMFP in BAC. The changes of four types of THMFP and total THMFP were examined in the influent and effluent of BAC filter from March to December in 2008. It turned out that the amounts of brominated THMFP were obviously higher in winter and autumn compared to the spring and summer, which also resulted in an increase of the total-THMFP levels during winter and autumn. In addition, long-term running of BAC filter shows the good removal function of chloroform formation potential, but not brominated THMFP; with further bromination, this function was declined, as it shows the formation of bromoform in BAC filter during October and December. These results were caused by changing of the proportion of $Br^-$/DOC.

Evaluation and Comparative Physical/Biological Removal Performance for Extremely Low-Concentration NDMA(N-nitrosodimethylamine) (극저농도 NDMA(N-nitrosodimethylamine) 물리적/생물학적 처리 효율 비교 평가)

  • NDMA(N-Nitrosodimethylamine) has been considered as a carcinogenic pollutant even at extremely low-concentration (10ng/L). However, previous researches on NDMA have focused on mainly high concentration due to a difficulty of analysis. In this study, removal efficiencies were evaluated for individual or combined methods with PAC(Powder Activated Carbon), GS(Granular Sludge), MF(Microfiltration), UF(Ultrafiltration) and Silica gel(MCM-41, Diatomite, Spherical silica gel) at both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Combined method of GS, PAC and UF membrane at anaerobic condition showed the highest removal efficiency of 65% while Silica gel showed the lowest removal efficiency of 6%. The outcomes of this study could be used further study of extremely low-concentration NDMA removal.

  • 본 연구는 Karr column을 이용하여 희토류 염화물 수용액상에서 비희토성분인 철의 분리에 대한 기초 연구로서, 아민계 추출제인 Alamine336을 이용하여 염화물 수용액상에서 유기상의 농도, 염소이온 농도, 염산 농도에 따른 철 성분의 분리특성을 파악 하였다. Batch 실험결과 추출제 농도가 증가함에 따라 철성분 제거율이 급격히 상승하였으며, 염산 및 염소이온 농도의 경우도 유사한 결과를 나타내었다. Batch 실험을통해 확인된 불순물(Fe)을 추출하기위한 최적 조건은 염산농도 2M, 추출제 농도 0.1M, 상비 1, 추출시간 30분으로서, 이때 희토류 염화물 수용액상의 철 성분 함량은 0.7ppm 이하로서 제거율은 99.9%였다. 또한 최적의 batch 실험조건에서 반응시간(=체류시간)을 변화시키며 실험한 결과, 반응시간 60분의 조건에서 batch 실험과 유사한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

A Comparative Study on the Use of Seawater and Sea Salt in Nutrient Elimination (영양염제거에서 해수 및 해수염에 관한 비교연구)

  • An excess in the nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphate leads to a phenomenon called eutrophication. In order to avoid this, numerous methods have been used to remove excess nutrients in the water. In this study, the use of a chemical method was assessed through the formation of magnesium ammonium phosphate. The difference in the removal efficiency of seawater and sea salt solution as primary sources of $Mg^{2+}$ ions and $Ca^{2+}$ ions for the formation of magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) respectively, were observed, taking into account the changes in pH and concentration. The results showed that seawater removed about 90 % phosphate and less than 50 % ammonia in sewage water condition, whereas the sea salt solution removed almost 90 % phosphate and 70 % ammonia in solution at pH 9 and 10 mM concentration of sea salt which further increases as the optimum ${Mg/PO_4}^{3-}$, ${NH_4}^+$ ratio reaches 2. The difference in the removal efficiency of seawater and sea salt was due to the fact that the set-ups were prepared in different conditions. This study suggests that both seawater and sea salt can be used to remove nutrients from the water. The relatively higher removal of phosphate can be explained by the formation of HAP from free $Ca^{2+}$ ions initially present in seawater and sea salt solution.

Treatment of gas from the vent of a fine chemical plant using a pilot-scale biofilter (파일럿 규모 바이오필터를 이용한 정밀화학공장 배출가스의 처리)

  • A pilot-plant biofilter (1750 mm W ${\times}$ 2750 mm L ${\times}$ 2000 mm H) packed with polyurethane foam (20 mm W ${\times}$ 20 mm L ${\times}$ 20 mm H) was installed in an fine chemical plant emitting gas streams containing ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, and dichloromethane. The biofilter was successfully operated for 30 days under highly fluctuating incoming concentrations (maximum 3500 ppm) at a residence time of 36 and 60 sec. Both ethyl alcohol and ethyl acetate were removed more than 95%, but dichloromethane removal was less than 50%. Malodor was also removed more than 90% from 17 days after start up.

Recycling Water Treatment of Aquaculture by Using Three Phase Fluidized Bed Reactor (삼상유동층 반응기를 이용한 양어장 순환수 처리에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of the present study were to evaluate nitrification characteristics and determine optimum treatment conditions of three phase fluidized bed reactor for recycling water treatment of aquaculture. When the loading rates were 2.739-0.086kg $COD/m^3/day$ and 1.575-0.128kg $NH_4\;^+-N/m^3/day$, COD and ammonia removal efficiencies were $56.3-94.7\%\;and\; 67.3­92.6\%$, respectively. The maximum removal rates of COD and ammonia were 1200mg/l/day and 488mg/l/day, respectively. Ammonia removal rates were more than $90\%$ beyond 1hr HRT. The ammoniaremoval efficiency was sensitive to the variation of media concentration and air flowrate.

  • Livestock wastewater is known to be very difficult to treat because it contains highly non-biodegradable organic material. Thus the DOF(Dissolved Ozone Flotation) system and the PO2(Pressurized Ozone Oxidation) system were built at the livestock wastewater treatment plant, and characteristics of treatments were investigated in this paper. Suspended Solids(SS) removal efficiency was over 94% by DOF system. 90% of $COD_{Mn}$ was removed, from 620 mg/L down to 63 mg/L by the DOF-PO2 system. During the period of operation, $SCOD_{Cr}$ was removed an average of 82%, from 890 mg/L down to 160 mg/L. 96% of UV-254 absorbance was also removed. TP removal efficiency was over 98%, from 27 mg/L to 0.35 mg/L, and TN was also removed 68% along with suspended solids. It was possible to meet effluent standards of the livestock wastewater treatment plant by the DOF-PO2 system along with biological treatment.

전해질 첨가 전기/UV 공정을 이용한 염료의 제거

  • UV공정은 NaCl 첨가량 증가에 따라 RhB 분해율이 감소하였고, 전기분해 공정에서는 증가하는 경향을 보였으나 전기/UV 공정에서 NaCl 농도가 0.25 g/L까지 RhB 분해속도가 증가하였으며 최적 NaCl 농도는 0.25 g/L로 판단되었다. UV와 전기분해 단일 공저의 COD 제거 합보다 전기/UV 공정에서의 COD 제거율이 높아 복합 공정에 대한 시너지 효과가 나타나는 것으로 사료되었다.

  • 기질농도, HRT, 온도, pH, $Ca^{2+}$ 농도변화에 따른 반응기의 생물막형성과 세포외고분자물질의 조성변화에 따른 기질 제거율을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 반응기의 초기 생물막 형성은 각 조건에 따라서 약간의 차이를 보였다. 반응기 운전 초기에 균에 의해 생산된 세포외고분자물질은 점액질의 형태로 세포벽에 부착되어 주위환경의 해로운 요인으로부터 세포를 보호하는 기능을 가지고 있어 생물막 형성을 촉진시키는 역할을 하였으나, 생물막이 안정화된 후에는 오히려 생물막의 산소투과와 영양분의 접촉을 떨어뜨리는 역할을 하여 기질 제거율을 저하시키는 작용을 하는 것으로 나타났다.

The Treatment of Concentrated Organic Alcoholic Distillery Wastewater by the Fluidized-Bed Biofilm Reactor (생물막 유동층 반응기에 의한 주정공장의 고농도 유기성 폐수처리)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate biomass characteristics and organic removal efficiency by changing superficial upflow velocity and organic loading rate in treating alcoholic distillery wastewater. Since the biomass concentration and the thickness of biofilm are very sensitive to superficial upflow velocity, a high concentration of biomass could be achieved by decreasing superficial upflow velocity that lowered the organic removal efficiency. Therefore, superficial upflow velocity should be controlled as to give optimum conditions and removal efficiency. Generally, activated sludge system shows 70% COD removal efficiency at$1.5kgCOD/m^3{\cdot}day$, but the fluidized-bed biofllm reactor shows 80% COD removal efficiency even at 6kgCOD/$m^2{\cdot}day$.
