In this study, we investigated the effects of perceived health and ageism experience of the elderly on successful aging, which were respectively presumed as predictors of biomedical model and psychosocial model of the successful aging. As important research results, firstly, negligence among ageism experience constructs appeared higher than other discriminatory experiences. Secondly, male showed significantly higher discriminatory experience than female in the area of 3 constructs such as property, negligence and employment ageism. Also there were some different discriminative experiences in the area of perceived health and ageism in terms of age, wealth and education. Finally, the results of hierarchical multiple regression hired to find out factors influencing successful aging showed that the factors such as sex, wealth, perceived health and property discrimination of ageism affected successful ageing. Based on the analytic results, we verified that perceived health, i.e., predictor of biomedical model had higher effect on successful aging than ageism experience, i.e., predictor of psychosocial model of successful aging. Thus, it was suggested that health promotion policy should be considered with priority and also combating ageism as well for successful aging.
This research investigated the effects of living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly to knowledge of aging process and anxiety about aging process in undergraduate students. To this purpose, we survey Anxiety about Aging Scale(Lasher & Faulkender, 1993) in Korean and Aging Process Knowledge Questionnaire in undergraduate students. The conclusions of this research were as follows: First, there were significant different by living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly in knowledge of aging process. Second, there were significant different by living experiences with the elderly and learning about the elderly in anxiety about aging process. Third, there were significant negative relationships between the aging knowledge and anxiety about aging in undergraduate students.
Background: This study was designed to investigate the effects of usual negative emotional experiences on biological aging progression of human. Methods: A total of 237 subjects who visited the Health Promotion Center at Chungnam National University Hospital from May 2013 through September 2013 was enrolled. Each subject had been drawn up a structured questionnaire about usual experiences of depression, anxiety, anger, and anger expression. The degree of biological aging progression of each subject was computed by a specific formula which consisted of chronological age and biological age reflecting obesity and aging of main organs. Results: Trait anger and low education level showed the significant correlations with biological aging (r=0.160, P=0.014, and r=-0.189, P=0.024, respectively). Trait anger and low education level solely displayed the significant $R^2s$ for biological aging in consequence of multivariate analyses; $R^2=0.044$, P=0.020, and $R^2=0.022$, P=0.038, respectively. Conclusions: This study suggests that the significant relationship between usual anger experience (i.e., trait anger) and biological aging would be present. In addition, lower education level may be related with biological aging.
This quasi-experimental study examined the effect of the a senior simulation program and following group discussion on the anxiety about aging. The senior simulation program did not raise the level of four factors of the anxiety about aging. The item of fear of losing friends when becoming old was the only significant one with increased level of anxiety. Discussion session for sharing the simulation experience revealed a positive effect of decreasing anxiety level in the factor score of fear of old people, the item of liking getting together with elders, and the item of liking to do something for elders. Korea has undergone rapid modernization and globalization process in the last few decades. The purpose of this study is to explore how shifting traditional values are impacting Korean elderlies and their perceptions of aging experience. In order to understand how changing social and cultural practices are affecting older adults, the similarities and differences among Korean elderlies living in three different geographical locations are examined in a multidimensional comparative framework. Life story interviews were conducted with 30 Korean elderlies (10 urban residents in Korea, 10 rural residents in Korea, and 10 residents in the US). Paying attention to within-group variation, this study particularly focused on analyzing the psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual experiences that made lives meaningful and resilient in old age in spite of physical decline. Based on analysis of narrative, the following major areas were identified as having positive or negative influence on aging experiences: physical health, emotional health, family relationship, work, leisure/social activity, and spirituality. Common themes of aging well across all settings included: "life not indebted to their offspring," "physical and mental health," and "dying well." Spirituality played a critical role in cultivating perspectives on life and accepting aging process, which were rooted in specific religious traditions participants identified (e.g., Christianity or Buddhism). Interesting differences in the meaning of work and leisure were also found between elderlies residing in Korea and the US immigrant context. One unique factor continuing to negatively affect Korean elderly in rural community was related to shame of not obtaining higher education. Implications for future research are also addressed.

For accomplish this purpose of study, the survey questionnaires were used to collect data. This study firstly set up the population as the Korean elderly who were aged over 65 and living at Seoul as of 2009, 300 persons were chosen by sampling. The numbers, used in actual analysis is leisure sports' activities participant 162, non participant 128. total 300. The statistics method utilized in this study for analyzing the collected data were ANCOVA analysis, multiple regression analysis, path analysis. Activities of daily living reliability is $\alpha$=.876 above and successful aging reliability is $\alpha$=.807 above. The conclusions of this study were as being follows. First, according to the experience of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, it was not difference between the activities of daily living. Secondly, the experience of in leisure sports' activities of older adults had positive effect on successful aging. Fourth, more frequency and intensity of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had positive effect on social successful aging, more frequency and period(time) of participated in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had positive effect on psychological social successful aging. Finally, the degree of in leisure sports' activities of older adults, had direct or indirect positive effect on activities of daily living and successful aging.
The purpose of this study is to explore the lived experience of aging of the poor elderly and to identify suitable welfare policies on their behalf. For this purpose, I selected 16 participants from the criterion sampling of the impoverished elderly and conducted in-depth interviews, after which the collected data was analyzed using the phenomenological approach of Cloaizzi(1978). As a result, 27 themes, 10 clusters of themes, and 4 categories were pinpointed. The 4 categories are 'Facing death,' 'Becoming despondent in heart and mind,' 'Living a hard life,' and 'Going with the flow of life.' By integrating the meanings of these findings, the essence of the lived experience of aging of the poor elderly was to be, 'Self-sufficiency despite receiving welfare benefits from the government.' The lived experience of aging of the poor elderly was revealed as not being entirely based around dependency but rather around strongly independent and positive life attitudes. But also found were difficulties due to lack of living expenses required for survival, deep death anxieties, and life attitudes in the context of Confucian culture. Based on the study results above, I presented welfare policies for the poor elderly as outlined: implementation of social activities in order to encourage independence and positivity among the poor elderly, actualization of payment that meets at least the minimum costs of living, consolidation of psychological-emotional assistance, implementation of death-related education programs, and the compilation of a welfare policy manual for the impoverished elderly.
This study aims to examine how old people think about 'dignifiable aging'. For the study, the authors have tried to understand and analyze of old people's view on 'classy and gracious aging' through their life experiences. The study focuses on the questions of 'how the participants experience aging', 'how they understand well, classy and successful aging and 'how they explain their ideas of the aging, then analyzes their ideas as types of 'within cases' as well as 'inter cases'. Indepth interview has employed as main methodology of data collection with the analysis of concerned written documents such as on-line and off-line essays as secondary data. The collected data had been basically sorted and analyzed by sorting commonimity and differences. Then they have been classified into the thems that indicate meanings and forms of 'dignified aging': 'ageless mind', 'happiness determined by one's mind', 'responsibility on family', 'desire for learning and social activities'. These meaning-units are added up to the main meaning of '(fullfilled) satisfaction through life-values' mediated by 'acceptance and acknowledgement', 'efforts', 'others' gaze', 'dreams and hopes', '(fullfilled) Satisfaction through life-values' can be achieved by 'sharing with others'. An interesting fact is that the meaning-units can be devided into two groups: 'the real life is the ideal life' which explains the actualization of the ideal in the daily life and 'life, conflict, the ideal' in which the real and the ideal are parellel with constant conflicts. In the conclusion, some implications and suggestions derived from the analysis are described from the v iew of social welfare.

This study examined the factors influencing aging anxiety in university students. The participants were 239 nursing students from one university in Seoul. Data were collected from September to December in 2014 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. The average score for aging-anxiety was 2.94, for knowledge about the elderly 18.92, for attitude toward the elderly 65.5, for participants' supporting awareness of old parents 4.05, and for self-esteem 3.07. There were negative correlations between aging anxiety, attitude toward the elderly, supporting awareness of old parents, and self-esteem. Aging-anxiety was significantly influenced by age, gender, living with grandparents, attitude toward the elderly, supporting awareness of old parents, and self-esteem. In view of the results of this study, one of the strategic ways to help college students reduce aging anxiety is to provide an opportunity to participate in activities that they can experience positive relationship with elderly.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of empathy in relation to contact experience of the elderly and their knowledge level of ageing. For this study data was collected from 20th Dec. to 30th of Dec. 2018 355 university students from D university in J. province were surveyed. Data was analysis by using reliability test, correlation analysis, hierarchical multiful regression analysis. The statistical significance of the mediating effects was confirmed by Sobel's verification. The results of the analysis showed that the partial mediation effect of empathy was verified with regard to the relationship between elderly contact experience and discrimination of elderly people. In addition, the partial mediation effect of empathy was verified between level of aging knowledge and the perception of elderly discrimination. The results of this study confirmed the necessity of developing practical education and training programs to improve the level of aging knowledge and to increase contact experience with elderly people. There is also a need to enhance empathy in order to improve the awareness of discrimination against elderly people in health and welfare departments among university students.
