This study examined the factors influencing aging anxiety in university students. The participants were 239 nursing students from one university in Seoul. Data were collected from September to December in 2014 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. The average score for aging-anxiety was 2.94, for knowledge about the elderly 18.92, for attitude toward the elderly 65.5, for participants' supporting awareness of old parents 4.05, and for self-esteem 3.07. There were negative correlations between aging anxiety, attitude toward the elderly, supporting awareness of old parents, and self-esteem. Aging-anxiety was significantly influenced by age, gender, living with grandparents, attitude toward the elderly, supporting awareness of old parents, and self-esteem. In view of the results of this study, one of the strategic ways to help college students reduce aging anxiety is to provide an opportunity to participate in activities that they can experience positive relationship with elderly.

This study aims to verify the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging and elderly group's attitude as well as mediation effect of a sense of filial duty. For study analysis, 200 college students studying at colleges in Sungnam, Anyang and Incheon in Gyeonggido as well as in Seoul were surveyed using structured questionnaires from May 2, 2016 to June 28, 2016. All of 166 responses except for 34 incomplete ones were used for analysis. Firstly, analysis result confirmed correlation among familism, anxiety over aging, elderly group's attitude and variables in sense of filial duty. Multicollinearity between variables were confirmed using VIF values. Secondly, the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging and elderly group's attitude was confirmed. Thirdly, partial mediation effect of a sense of filial duty was confirmed in the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging. In addition, Sobel Test suggested by Sobel was conducted to verify significance of the mediation effect. This study suggests intervention in and practice of social welfare to promote familism and a sense of filial duty between college students and elderly generation in this era of nuclear family and aging society as well as reduction of anxiety over aging on the part of college students, based on the verified mediation effect of a sense of filial duty in the effect that familism recognized by college students in aging society has on anxiety over aging.
The purpose of this study is to measure the social workers' knowledge of aging and attitude toward the elderly in Korea, and to find out the variables that may influence the social workers' attitude. One hundred and eighty three social workers working in a community welfare center were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge of aging and Yoon(1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The social workers' level of knowledge of aging was 65.3%, which was higher than America nurses(62.0%) and Korean nurses(65.0%). (2) The mean of social workers' attitude toward the elderly 65.5 points, which was more positive than nurses in other studies. (3) The social workers' levels of knowledge of aging(p<0.001), personal experience with the elderly(p<0.001), and volunteer experience for the elderly(p<0.05) influence the social workers' attitude toward the elderly. Based on the research results, implications for the future practice are discussed, and suggestions for making social workers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also included.

Data was collected by structured questionnaire on subjects' characteristics, knowledge toward the elderly, attitude toward the elderly, aging anxiety, and attitude toward caring the elderly. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. The average score of knowledge, aging anxiety, attitude toward the elderly, and attitude toward caring the elderly of participants were 14.78, 2.88, 4.09, 5.16. Factors significantly affecting attitude toward caring the elderly were attitude toward the elderly, preference of caring for the elderly, aging anxiety, favorable type to be support as a parent. Explanatory power of the model was 24.7%. The results of this study suggest that interventions may be necessary to improve attitude toward caring the elderly among nursing students.
This study aimed to validate the Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC) scale developed by Brothers et al. (2019) for the Korean elderly. This study took the elderly people in Seoul (over 65 years old) as participants to examine the aging perception of the elderly themselves. For this purpose, we conducted exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) with two samples (sample 1: N = 185; sample 2: N = 215). EFA revealed and CFA confirmed a two-factor structure consisting of awareness of gains and awareness of losses. Specifically, the awareness of losses had two subfactors consisting of awareness of losses in health and awareness of losses in non-health, while the awareness of gains had no subfactor. Finally, we examined the relationship between AARC, attitudes toward own aging, and emotions then discussed the implication, limitations of this study, and future direction.
The purpose of this study was to find out the variables affecting the successful aging of the elderly. To achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted with 388 seniors living in the Jeonbuk area. The data were analyzed using multiple regressions and a path analysis. The major findings were as follows: First, statistically significantly different perception of successful aging was observed according to their marital status. Second, successful aging of the elderly with a spouse was influenced by personal variables, such as their own perception of economic status, gender, education level and physical condition. In contrast, successful aging of the elderly without a spouse was most influenced by social variables, such as family support. Third, the attitude towards aging directly affected successful aging. Various personal and social characteristics indirectly affected successful aging via attitudes towards aging according to the presence of a spouse.

Data were obtained from KGSS Survey of 1535 participants. The sample was randomly divided into two group to test reliability and validity of the scale. Finally, the 23-items with seven factors were suggested, based on the internal reliability and exploratory factor analysis with the first group. Another group were conducted confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that the final 23-item scale with seven factors had a good model fit. Development and refinement of ageism scale are necessary elements for proceeding beyond theoretical and empirical discussions in ageism. It also provides a implications for current views of ageism and strategies for reducing ageism.
