Hysteretic Behavior of RC Beams Exposed to Freezing and Thawing under Cyclic Loadings (철근콘크리트보의 동결융해 경험에 따른 반복하중하에서의 이력특성)

  • Generally, reinforced concrete structures exposed to the outside temperature are affected by freezing and thawing process during winter and early spring. These freezing and thawing process can lead to the reduction in durability of concrete as cracking or surface spalling. This paper is to study the hysteretic behavior of RC beams exposed to freezing and thawing under cyclic loadings. To compare the difference in hysteretic behavior of RC Beams, limited tests were conducted under different types of damage and freezing and thawing cycles. For this purpose, six specimens were tested. It is thought that experimental results will be used as basic data to evaluate hysteretic behavior of RC beams exposed to freezing and thawing.

  • 근래 들어 철근 콘크리트에 있어서의 철근 부식이 관심의 대상이 되고 있는데 그 이유는 이 현상이 실제 구조물에서 광범위하게 발생함이 확인되었고 이로 이한 보수비용이 급증하였기 때문이다. 철근의 부식이 처음 거론된 것은 해양구조물과 내화학성 구조물에서였고 최근 들어서는 교량상판, 주차공간 등 염기에 노출되어 철근 부식이 우려되는 각 종의 구조물에 광범위하레 그 대책이 연구되기에 이르렀다. 이와 같은 철근부식의 제어방법으로는 첫째로 콘크리트의 수밀화를 들 수 있고 다음으로 콘크리트의 표면을 처리하거나 피복두께를 늘리는 방법이 있다. 마지막으로 철근 자체에 방청성능을 직접 부여하여 철근의 부식을 방지하고자 하는 방법을 들 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 대책중에서 가장 적극적인 방법에 속하는 에폭시 도포 철근의 기본적인 방청성능을 고찰하기 위해 수행되었다.

  • Reinforced Concrete structures are constructed under the basic assumption of perfect bonding between steel and concrete. The corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete columns results in the excessive cracks and gradual deterioration of concrete between steel and concrete. The cyclic loading test was conducted with the three corrosion rates in the laboratory. Throughout this test, it is investigated a bond behavior of reinforced concrete columns under a steel corrosion. Main variables of the test are a corrosion of steel reinforcement and a level of stress.

Estimation of Concrete Cover Failure Time Considering the Corrosion Rate in Reinforced Concrete Structures (철근 부식속도 예측식을 이용한 철근 피복 파괴 시간 추정)

  • In lifetime estimation, the FEM analysis method is proposed for predicting corrosion failure time of concrete structures exposed to sea-water. This study shows that the corrosion rate of rebar in artificial pore solution can be transferred to the corrosion rate of rebar in concrete using the relationship between pore volume and concrete volume by Jennings' model. And this study considered the pitting corrosion effects of reinforcement bar on corrosion failure analysis, rebar size to cover depth and nonlinear crack analysis. These analysis results have good accordance with the experimental results of Williamson's work. This methodology can be applied to lifetime prediction procedure of reinforced concrete structures and also gives more reasonable results of concrete cover failure time estimation of reinforced concrete structures exposed to sea-water.

Transport Coefficients and Effect of Corrosion Resistance for SFRC (강섬유 보강 콘크리트의 수송계수 및 부식저항효과)

  • This study investigated the corrosion properties of reinforced concrete with the addition of steel fibers. The transport properties of steel fiber-reinforced concrete such as permeable void, absorption by capillary action, water permeability and chloride diffusion were first measured to evaluate the relationship with the corrosion of steel rebar. Test results showed a slight increase on the compressive strength with the addition of steel fibers as well as considerable improvement of penetration resistance to mass transport of harmful materials into concrete. The addition of steel fibers in reinforced concrete accelerated the initiation of steel corrosion contrary to the expected results based on the measured transport properties. The NaCl ponding surface showed the spalling failure due to the corrosion expansion of steel fibers and the cut-surface around the steel rebar showed the localized steel fiber's corrosion. The wet-dry cycling with high chloride ions as well as high temperature seems to induce the increase of salt crystallization on the pores continually and the increased pressure with the steel fiber's corrosion on the pores caused the spalling failure on the exposed surface. The microcracking on the surface therefore accelerated the movement of water, chloride ions and oxygen into the embedded steel rebar. The mechanism affecting corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement with steel fibers in this study are not yet fully understood and require further study comprising of accurate experimental design to isolate the effect of steel fiber's potential mechanism on the corrosion process.

Application of Macrocell Sensor System for Monitoring of Steel Corrosion in Concrete Structure Exposed to Marine Environment (해양 콘크리트구조물의 철근부식 모니터링을 위한 매크로셀 센서 시스템의 적용)

  • Corrosion of steel embedded in concrete is one of the foremost factors that affect the durability of concrete structures in marine environments. This paper presents an application technique of anode-ladder-system to evaluate corrosion behaviours of marine concrete structure. In order to investigate the behaviours quantitatively, the measurement of potential and current was performed on the concrete elements subjected to the penetration and diffusion of chloride ions. The main variable was the heights from seawater level; namely 3.7, 6.0 and 8.2 m. As a result of the monitoring, it was found that the corrosion characteristics differently behaved with the increasing height. Additionally, through migration test, the relationship between compressive strength of concrete and diffusivity of chloride ions was observed. It is suggested, ultimately, that in order to reduce or mitigate steel corrosion, both appropriate concrete cover depth and high-quality of concrete in early ages should be done.

  • Reasonable prediction of residual capacity of fire-damaged reinforced columns is important for both the safety measurement and the rehabilitation of the reinforced concrete structures suffered from exposure to extensive fire. In order to predict the residual behavior of fire-damaged reinforced concrete columns, its predictive model must be able to take into account the amount of heat transferred into the column, the level of deterioration of constituent materials and various column geometries. The numerical model presented in this research includes all these factors. The model has been shown to reasonably predict the residual behavior of fire-damaged columns. Parametric studies were performed using this model for the effects of cover thickness, exposure time to fire and column geometries on the residual behavior of reinforced concrete columns. It was found that serious damage on the residual capacity of column resulted from a longer exposure time to fire but only marginal differences from other factors.

  • 경제성장에 따른 항만구조물의 건설 및 유지관리에 관한 관심이 급격히 고조되고 있다. 이러한 항만구조물은 해양환경에 노출되어 콘크리트에 매입된 철근의 부식을 야기시키는 요인에 접해있다. 한편, 콘크리트 내부의 염분침투는 매입철근의 부식을 가속화시켜 콘크리트 구조물의 내구성에 상당히 큰 피해를 입힐 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 여러 가지 방식제를 사용함과 동시에 물/시멘트을 달리한 실험변수를 이용한 시험체에 대한 부식평가 및 매입철근의 적절한 부식방지 기법의 개발에 있다. 해양환경 조건을 simulation한 해수 및 담수 순환장치를 이용한 실내 시험체의 철근 부시도 평가 및 항만현장에 직접 거치된 시험체 등 다양한 조건하의 2년간의 실험이 현재 진행 중에 있다. 40주에 걸쳐 간헐 침투되는 해수조건에서 60개의 콘크리트 시험체의 철근 부시도 평가결과를 기초하여 180여개의 콘크리트 시험체를 새로이 제작하여 Half-Cell Test를 통한 Instant-Off Potential, Current Method를 통한 Corrosion current, Chloride Content 및 시험 종료후 시험체를 파쇄하여 부식된 철근의 무게측정등을 통하여 거동 및 부식을 예측.평가하고 이를 통한 부식방지기법을 개발하고자 한다.

Influence of Reinforcements on the Chloride Diffusion Analysis of Concrete Structures (철근의 영향을 고려한 콘크리트 구조물의 염소이온 확산해석)

  • The chloride penetration in concrete structures is influenced by many factors such as types of cement and admixture proportion. Therefore, the effects of these factors on chloride diffusion must be correctly considered. The conventional diffusion analysis also neglected the existence of reinforcing bar in concrete structures. The purpose of the present paper is therefore to investigate the effect of reinforcing bar on the chloride diffusion in concrete structures. For this purpose, a comprehensive finite element analyses have been conducted to obtain chloride penetration profile. The results indicate that the chlorides are accumulated in front of a reinforcing bar and that the accumulation is much larger for the case of large diameter bars. The higher accumulation of chloride at bar location causes much faster corrosion of reinforcing steel. It can be concluded from the present study that the effects of reinforcing bars must be considered in chloride diffusion analysis for more realistic prediction of durable life of concrete structures.
