  • Vacuum Residue (VR) combustion tests were carried out with a 20 kg/hr (fuel feed rate) small scale reactor. The nozzle used was a steam atomized, internal mixing type. Compared to heavy oil, vacuum residue used in this work is extremely high viscous and contains high percentages of sulfur, carbon residue and heavy metals. To ignite atomized VR particles, it was necessary to preheat the reactor, and it has been done with LP gas. The axial and radial gas temperature, major species concentrations and solid sample were analyzed when varying the fuel feed rate. The main reaction zone of atomized VR-air flame in a reactor was anticipated within about 1 m from the burner tip by considering the profiles oi gas temperature, species concentration and particle size measured along with the reactor. At downstream, the thermally, fully developed temperature distribution was obtained. SEM photographs revealed that VR carbon particles collected from the reactor are porous and have many blow-holes on the particle surface.

  • In this study, a radial inflow type turbine was applied and the outer diameter of the turbine rotor was 108 mm. The turbine blade on a circular plate disc was designed as an axial-type because its partial admission rate was 1.4-4.1%. The turbine consisted of three stages. The performance test has been conducted with various admission rates, tip clearances and nozzle flow angles. The turbine output power was measured on each stage. The turbine performance was obtained in a wide rotational speed range in order to compare its performance according to various operating conditions. The net specific output torque was also measured to compare its overall performance. Computational analysis was conducted for predicting turbine performance. The computed results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this review an attempt is made to give the background to the current trends in foreign developments in the ceramic matrix composites for space vehicles. The lightweight and high temperature specific modulus properties of ceramic composites have continued to develop for designing advanced propulsion structures and for increasing space vehicle performances. Those applications require advanced materials with good resistance to high temperatures, to oxidation environments and to mechanical stresses. The advantages of ceramic matrix composites are the low specific weight, the high specific strength over a wide temperature ranges, and their good damage tolerance compared to tungsten, pyrographites and polycrystalline graphites. Due to these advantages ceramic matrix composites are currently used in rocket engine chamber, nozzle, solar array, radar antenna, mirror support structures, hypersonic leading edge articles, heat shields, reentry vehicle nose tips, and radiators for spacecraft. Various processes are discussed together with examples of current application so that some of the advanced technologies can be possibly applied to Korean space technology.

  • Liquid valve is divided into cylinder and liquid part or composed of a single body structure. It becomes a connected structure to cylinder head after inserting stainless(STS) shaft to Teflon packing. In injecting and intercepting fluid, working efficiency becomes low because of the top and bottom round trip operation the friction between Teflon packing and STS shaft fluid leakage, decline of working environment, and each part replacement. And so target value is unattainable in productivity liquid valve design, quality, and structure change are studied. In this paper, designed to solve the existing problems basically, to prevent friction of Piston by developing diaphragm linked with piston, to satisfy long life, and to provide the prevention of leakage. The objective of the study is also to prevent remains fluid at nozzle tip after dispensing fluid, and bell close with the suction function in piston retreating.

  • Recently, three-dimensional scaffolds and nanofibers are being developed for bone tissue regeneration. In this study, we fabricated a hybrid scaffold using a nano-micro precision deposition system. The fabrication process involved the application of the solid freeform fabrication (SFF) technology and electrospinning. The hybrid scaffolds were combined using micro scaffolds and nanofibers. The nanofibers were deposited on each layer of the micro scaffolding using the electrospinning process. The micro scaffolds were fabricated using the SFF technology at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, pressure of 650 kPa, and scan velocity of 250 mm/s. Nanofiber fabrication was conducted by means of electrospinning using the flow rate, solution concentration, distance from the tip to the collector (TCD), and voltage. The nanofibers were fabricated using a flow rate of 0.1 ml/min, voltage of 5 kV, TCD of 1 mm, and 10 wt% of solution concentration. MG-63 cells were seeded into the hybrid scaffold for the purpose of its evaluation.

  • In bone tissue engineering, polycaprolactone (PCL) is one of the most widely used biomaterials in the manufacturing of scaffolds as a synthetic polymer having biodegradability and biocompatibility. The strut width in the fabrication of scaffolds is an important part of tissue regeneration in in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, because it affects not only the pore size but also the porosity. In this study, we used polymer deposition system (PDS) and design of experiments (DOE) to explore the optimal process conditions to achieve a systematic and efficient scaffold manufacturing process, using temperature, pressure, scan velocity, and nozzle tip height as the parameters for the experiments. The aim of this research was to fabricate a 3D PCL scaffold having a uniform strut width of $150{\mu}m$ using DOE; it was proved that the strut width was constant in all the experimental groups by fabricating the PCL scaffolds according to various pore patterns as well as one pore pattern.
