Methods: A secondary data analysis was performed using data of 65 years or older elderly women with MCI participating in the 7th Korea Longitudinal Study of Ageing of the Korea Employment Information Service. The study subjects included 368 elderly women with MCI. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and logistic regression with complex samples were performed using IBM SPSS ver. 23.0. Results: 89.9% of the elderly women with MCI had fear of falling. There were significant factors such as religion (OR=8.85, 95% CI: 3.39~23.15), restriction of activity (OR=6.84, 95% CI: 2.14~21.90), depression (OR=0.75, 95% CI: 0.62~0.90), and MMSE (OR=1.30, 95% CI: 1.03~1.63), predicting fear of falling in community-dwelling elderly women with MCI. Conclusion: Differentiated strategies should be developed for elderly women with MCI to decrease fear of falling and prevent falls with understanding of contributing factors. This study will provide fundamental information on programming and a policy proposal related to fear of falling for elderly women with MCI.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore and describe the health and welfare needs experienced by old parents living with disabled adult children, and to help generate research interest and public policy attention on this critical issue. For the purpose of this study, the survey was conducted with older parents who are living with dependent adult children with physical or mental disability. Among collected data for this study, data for 105 older parents were analyzed. The results showed that older parents have suffered with care responsibilities for their disabled adult children as well as special needs resulted from their old age. And older parents have little or even nothing prepared for later life because of lifetime economic, physical and social difficulties related to their disabled children. Also these difficulties had a significant impact on their idea of health and welfare needs in later life. It showed that older parents had mainly concerned and wanted to have the direct cash benefits and medical provisions but hardly recognised the importance of other services such as leisure activities. Preliminary suggestions of this study therefore may be helpful to improve the public policy approach in order to better serve older parents with disabled adult children in the coming aging society.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to examine the relationship between nurses' characteristics and perception of seriousness of elder abuse. Method: A cross-sectional survey design was used to describe the perception of elder abuse by 301 nurses. Data were collected by convenience sampling. The research instruments utilized in this study were 12 scenarios adapted by Yoo & Kim from the 13 senarios to measure the perception of elder abuse developed by Moon and Williams (1993), a seven item questionnaires related to elder abuse law, and a Semantic Differential Scaling to measure attitudes toward elderly people. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: The mean score for perceptions of elder abuse was 3.07. Among the types of abuse, sexual abuse was perceived as the most severe type of abuse followed by physical abuse, neglect, financial abuse, and emotional abuse in that order. Education, job position, experience of gerontological nursing course, and education on elder abuse, exposure to elder abuse information, and attitudes toward elders were significantly related to the perception of seriousness on elder abuse. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that provision of elder abuse education is needed for nurses, to enable them to identify elder abuse and address their legal and professional responsibilities.

  • Recently, child abuse is mentioned in revised Child Welfare Law, on the other hand, elder abuse is not yet recognized as a social problem and little addressed in the field of social service. Like this, elder abuse has gotten less public and professional attention than other areas within the family abuse field. Despite the lack of attention to elder abuse, the number of elder abuse reports and incidents is likely to increase in the future. Based on the recognition that current effort and approach to elder abuse is not appropriate, this study attemped to briefly review laws and programs addressing elder abuse in the United States which have shaped in other contries. In the United States where various laws and programs that address elder abuse exit, there are incresing arguments that addressing elder abuse in the area of social service rather than in the criminal justice systems is more desirable. Because the most common form of elder abuse is not physical abuse but neglect including self-neglect. Self-neglect and neglect caused by caregivers' burden can not be addressed through criminal justice systems appropriately. From these experiences of the United States, the implications for policy, programs, and practice aimed at intervening elder abuse were discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a web-based education program for nurses working in nursing homes. The focus was on the rights of older adults. Methods: The program was designed based on the Network-Based Instructional System Design (NBISD) model and was operated and evaluated between July 2007 and June 2008. Results: Out of nursing records of 40 residents from a nursing home, the final 7 cases were deducted through classification using the Resource Utilization Group (RUG)-III. The data on needs for education was collected from 28 nurses working in 15 nursing homes located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, who agreed to complete a self-report questionnaire. A comprehensive review of the literature and two focus groups interviews were used to search for risk factors and guidelines for protection of human rights. The education program was developed based on Kolb's experiential learning model and composed of 5 units, which included content on types of human rights and rights to death with dignity, elder abuse, physical liberty, and self-determination. The program was positively evaluated showing a score of 3.35 (SD=0.37) out of 4. Conclusion: The educational program developed in this study should promote nurses' sensitivity to the rights of elders and improve nurses' behaviors in protecting the rights of elders residing in nursing homes.

The nationwide investigation was carrid out from 1st July until 30th July, 2020. SPSS 23.0 was used for the analysis and the Sobel-Test was conducted to verify the multiple regression analysis and significance. This was for the confirmation of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and mediation effect so that the influence and relationships of variables could be verified. The results are as follows. First the job stress of counselors in the NPAE had a positive effect on turnover intention. Second, the work environment of the NPAE was found to have a negative influence on turnover intention. Third, the work environment played a significant partially mediating role in the relation between the job stress and turnover intention among the counselors.
