In the research, we used the 2006 KLoSA, got the following result through the more than 60 years old 502 peoples in the rural area and 1129 in the urban area. There were significant differences of factors related to the life satisfaction between rural and urban elderly, and the most sport participants have higher life satisfaction than non-participants. Through the probit analysis, the result shows that significant factors affecting sport participation for the rural elderly are gender, age, working/retired, and for urban elderly, the education level and income are added. About the participation, there were also significant differences on the participation frequency for the rural elderly and on the participation hours for urban elderly. The significant factors of life satisfaction for rural elderly are the education level, subjective health, and sport participation, and for urban elderly were the education level, income, subjective health, and sport participation. Overall, it shows the urban elderly have higher life satisfaction than the rural elderly. The welfare system to improve the sports participation and life satisfaction needs the differentiated support reflecting the social demographic characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify cognitive impairment and it's related factors of the elderly in long term care facilities. The participants of this study were 229 residents of five nursing homes. Data were analyzed using two sample t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and logistic regression. The results revealed eight factors related to cognitive impairment: gender(OR=2.41, p=.035), age(75-84: OR=3.26, p=.002, Over 85: OR=4.46, p<.001), living with family before admission(OR=2.17, p=.015), hearing(OR=8.88, p=.004), family history of dementia(OR=4.39, p=.009), ADL(OR=0.82, p<.001), hypertension(OR=4.07, p<.001), and diabetes(OR=3.42, p=.001). • The main purposes of the study were to identify factors affecting health-related quality of life of elderly stroke survivors, and to suggest social work interventions for improving their quality of life. The participants were 328 elderly stroke survivors over 55 years old recruited from 18 long-term care hospitals and 13 nursing care facilities in Chung-Nam Province, Korea. The data was collected through a direct survey method from Dec. 16, 2008 to Jan. 17, 2009. Statistical analysis revealed that the overall health-related quality of life among participants was relatively low, especially in the social relationships domain. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, depression emerged as the most significant predictor of elderly stroke survivors' health-related quality of life, followed by financial burden in future, activities of daily living, acceptance of disability, comorbidity, and major financial supporter(spouse). Health-related quality of life of elderly stroke survivors in long-term care facilities was affected by a variety of variables from disease-related factors to environmental ones. Particularly psychosocial variables were the most powerful factors to predict HRQOL of elderly stroke survivors. Based on the results, social work implications were discussed in the context of developing clinical strategies to alleviate elderly stroke survivors' health-related quality of life in long-term care facilities. Living with chronic illness and disability is a great challenge to the elderly. Most of all long-term residence in care facilities can cause deterioration of quality of life in old age. From now on, studies on health-related quality of life of elderly with chronic illness and disability should be activated in social work field.

  • This study is a descriptive research that provides basic data to develop customized emergency education programs for strengthening the emergency coping ability of facility and group home caregivers. Data were collected from 7.10~8.15 in 2020 in the S and G areas. A total of 236 questionnaires were included for the analysis. Data were analyzed using χ2, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Approximately 68.9% facilities and 50.7% group homes experienced emergencies, and there was a significant difference (χ2=8.42, p=0.004). First aid personnel were nurses (nurse aides) 55.3% facility and 42.7% of facility directors group home, showing differences (χ2=27.84, p<.001). 56.5% and 68.0% in the facility and group home, first aid care : ice pack, medication, Heimrich in the facility and 119 and guardian call, ice pack, Heimrich for the group home. First aid knowledge was determined to be significantly different between the facilities (11.60±2.09) and group homes (9.08±2.28) (t=8.39, p<0.001). Similarly, the emergency coping abilities showed a significant difference (t=8.00, p<0.001) between facilities (52.94±5.27) and group homes (47.33±4.39). In addition, a positive correlation was established between the experience of emergency situations and the emergency coping ability in the facilities. Overall, our data indicates that the emergency experience, emergency knowledge, and emergency coping abilities of the facility and group home caregivers are significantly different. We propose that emergency education tailored to the characteristics of each institution is needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between the cognitive functions, health conditions, activities of daily living, depression and sleep states among the elderly at care facilities. The subjects include 204 elderly people aged 65. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The findings show that the cognitive functions of the elderly at care facilities are related to their engagement in regular exercise, duration of residency, grade of care, lack of physical freedom, listening ability, state of teeth, urinary incontinence, activities of daily living, and state of sleep. Their cognitive functions had positive correlations with activities of daily living and negative correlations with state of sleep. Their cognitive impairment was significantly influenced by their engagement in regular exercise, duration of residency, grade of care, listening ability, ADL, IAD dependency, and sleep disorder. In short, the cognitive functions of the elderly at care facilities are highly related to their health conditions as perceived and felt by them. It is thus required to develop, apply, and consistently assess and manage cognitive rehabilitation training programs to provide interventions for the factors that influence their cognitive impairment.
