Resistance to Two Leaf Spot Diseases of Pepper Genetic Resources Introduced from Mexico and Nepal (멕시코와 네팔도입 고추 유전자원의 두 가지 점무늬병에 대한 저항성)

  • Pepper genetic resources consisting of introductions from Mexico and Nepal and susceptible and resistant controls were tested for resistance to gray leaf spot and to bacterial spot by serially inoculating the two disease pathogens, Stemphylium spp. first and Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria next, with application of fungicide after evaluation of resistance to gray leaf spot first. KC866, KC872, KC902, KC905 were resistant to gray leaf spot in addition to known resistance sources, KC43, KC47, KC220, KC319, KC320, KC380. KC897 was on the top of the resistance sources list, even better than KC177(163192), and was followed by KC889, KC896, KC898, all of which were introductions from Nepal.

  • Department of Health Services, under the Ministry of Health, Nepal has adopted the five year plan and Primary Health Care service as the main strategy to provide basic health service at the rural areas. However, development of the Specialized Services in the Urban areas, Human Resource Development, Management Strengthening and Investment of Private and External Sector are also highly entertained through its Liberalization Policy. But due to, Early Marriage, Superstitious Traditional Beliefs & behavior, Poor Sanitation of living, Poverty, Illiteracy, Lack of Supervision and Monitoring, High Density population in relation to arable land and Lack of Private and External Sector Investment, the Country is still suffering from high Fertility, Malnutrition, Infectious diseases and so high Death Rates. So Primary Health Care Services should be more emphasized than before; Community Financing, Private and External Sector should be highly involved; Manpower Development and Specialized Services should be most taken care; Management Skills be more strengthened and Evaluating the previous work and avoiding the mistake for the future program implementation should be well done. If these are improved, then the health will be definitely promoted to meet the Health Target of Nepal.

A case study of the survivors of Nepal Earthquake: Focusing on the children and their parents at the Kathmandu massive refugee camp (네팔 지진 생존자들의 피해경험에 대한 질적 사례연구 -카트만두 텐트촌 아동과 부모, 관계자를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the survivors who experienced and suffered through the tragic earthquake in Nepal. Individual interviews were conducted with 13 participatns, consisting of 5 children, 5 parents and 3 staff members. Analysis was done using photos, drawings and records. Identified themes included "daily routine, pleasure of life (life before the earthquake)," "survival from the crossroad of life and death (situation at the time of the earthquake)," "nonfunctional governmental system and impassioned foreigners who lend a helping hand (post earthquake recovery)", "trace of the day left everywhere (the current life),"and "desiring to get back up again (hope for future)."Based on the results, this study suggested policies and practical guideline for preventing and coping with disaster and supporting the survivors.

A Case Study on Global Educational Innovation using U-Learning Box and Ubiquitous-based Test (유러닝 박스와 유비쿼터스 기반의 시험 시스템을 이용한 글로벌 교육 혁신 사례 연구)

  • In this paper, we present the results of educational innovation case study using U-Learning Box and Ubiquitous-based Test(UBT) system for 6 sample primary schools in Nepal. As Nepal is considered to be a developing country with electricity problem to the school, the U-Learning Box, consisting of a small and easy-to-use tablet PC for teacher and a small smart beam with its own battery was evaluated as the optimum solution to support continuous basic English and hygiene education for these schools. And UBT technology using tablet PC was used to evaluate and analyze basic English learning ability of the students, which helped us realized that it is necessary to improve the educational environment and develop suitable educational contents. We hope that the global educational innovation using U-Learning Box and UBT technology will become a successful model for global equality of educational opportunity project for developing countries including Nepal.

A Study on the Evaluation of Nepal's Inclusive Business Solution: Focusing on the Application of OECD DAC Evaluation Criteria (네팔의 포용적 비즈니스 프로그램 평가에 관한 연구: 경제협력개발기구 개발원조위원회 평가기준 적용을 중심으로)

  • The Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development discusses the reorganization of the five evaluation criteria of the Public Development Assistance Committee, which are used internationally, and the five evaluation criteria including adequacy, efficiency, effectiveness, impact, and sustainability when assessing public development assistance in 1991. This study is to derive alternatives by applying the evaluation criteria of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in the evaluation of the inclusive business program being implemented in Nepal since 2019. As a result of the study, the adequacy of Nepal's inclusive business program was consistent with continuous employment and job creation for vulnerable groups such as disabled and orphan women. Efficiency can be said to be efficient in that processes such as work order and work confirmation are made with an electronic management tool, and delivery of the result is transmitted online, saving time and cost compared to other industries. The effectiveness of this project can be said to be an effective program in that it provides high-quality jobs such as providing specialized computer graphics education for the vulnerable, such as disabled and orphan women in Nepal, and hiring graduates as employees. Sustainability is the point that KOICA's inclusive business program has enabled vulnerable groups in the existing fields of agriculture and manufacturing to engage in the computer graphics industry, and the scalability of movies, characters, education businesses, and role models in other countries.However, considering that the scale of public development assistance will continue to increase in the future, it is necessary to establish a systematic monitoring system and a recirculation system so that the project between the donor and recipient countries can continue.

  • In Nepal, unemployment and underemployment rate is very high among the youth between 15-24 ages. Generally people tend to discourage acquisition of skills for a career. Access to skill training is limited, especially for the poor, women, and disadvantaged, and the quality of skills training is variable and often not linked to market needs. Strengthening the technical education and vocational training (TEVT) sector to deliver more relevant and market oriented training is essential. To improve the country's pool of technical skilled manpower and unemployment problem, the government has attempted various programs in the last two decades to institutionalize technical education and vocational training. These had initially mixed results mainly due to poor organization and management of the TEVT sector, lack of proper linkage between the training programs and the needs of the labor market, lack of proper equipment and instructional materials and inadequately trained instructors. Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) as a leading organization in TEVT sector of Nepal should focus on community-based vocational trainings for the purpose of reducing poverty in grassroots level addressing excluded and marginalized groups. It is a big challenge as well as opportunity for CTEVT and TEVT professionals.
