An Experimental Study on the Performance of a Simultaneous Heating and Cooling Heat Pump in the Cooling-only and Cooling-main Operation Mode with the Variation of the Indoor Air Temperature (동시냉난방 열펌프 시스템의 냉방전용 및 냉방주체 운전모드에서의 실내기온 변화에 따른 성능특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The cooling load in winter season is significant in many commercial buildings and hotels because of the usage of office equipments and the high efficiency of wall insulation. Therefore, the development of a multi-heat pump which can cover heating and cooling simultaneously for each indoor unit is required. In this study, the characteristics and performance of a simultaneous heating and cooling heat pump in the cooling-only and cooling-main operating mode was investigated experimentally with a variation of indoor air dry bulb temperature which is from $21^{\circ}C$ to $35^{\circ}C$. EEV opening was adjusted from 20% to 24% during the tests. When the indoor air temperature varied, the performance in the cooling-only mode was more sensitive to the temperature than in the cooling-main mode. The total capacity and COP were increased by 53.8% and 48.1%, respectively, in the cooling-main, while those were increased by 19.6% and 19.3% in the cooling-only mode. The performance differences between the two operating modes became larger at lower temperatures, especially for the COP.

The Effect of Construction Methods on Geothermal Exchange Rates of Cast-in-place Energy Piles (현장타설말뚝형 에너지 파일의 시공형태별 지중 열교환량에 관한 연구)

  • In recent, there are many studies associated with energy piles to save initial construction cost for ground source heat pump system. In this study, to evaluate geothermal exchange rates two types (a connection type and a slinky type) of cast-in-place energy piles (PRD, 4.5m in depth, 1,200 mm in diameter) were constructed for the tests and their efficiencies were compared with numerical analysis results. As a result, starting with operation, geothermal exchange rate gradually decreases due to exchange of lower ground temperature. In the case of connection type, temperature difference is $0.37^{\circ}C$ in heating mode and $0.34^{\circ}C$, in cooling mode, respectively. In addition, in case of a connection type, geothermal exchange rate in heating mode is 2,314W/m and in cooling mode, 252.2W/m whose value is 9% higher than in heating mode. In the case of slinky type, the average geothermal exchange rate in heating mode is 168.0W/m, which is about 27% lower than that of connection type.

A Study on the Reduction effect of Peak Cooling Load on the Sunshade effect of BIPV System (BIPV 시스템의 차양 효과에 따른 피크 냉방부하 절감효과에 관한 연구)

  • As the number of buildings that use the transparent permeation materials as the outer wall is on the increase, the coming amount of the light rays is a lot, and thus the increase in the cooling load and the radiant heat of high temperature may cause the residents to discomfort. In order to reduce such influences, this paper analyzed the installation effects of the sunshade BIPV. The inner temperature of the room installed the sunshade BIPV or otherwise was measured, and compared and analyzed the effects of reducing the cooling load by the incoming light rays. The sample space of the third floor of S university installed the sunshade BIPV has two rooms on the same conditions, and for five sunny days selected in August, the researcher measured the air temperature and the temperature of the fittings with closing the windows to minimize the movement of air without operating the coolers. The maximum cooling load measured by the incoming light rays in the room where the sunshade BIPV was not installed was examined as 459.13kcal/h. It can be understood as the effect of reducing the cooling load according to the incoming rays of the room with sunshade BIPV. Even though the effect of cooling load reduction is not so great in a room, the total reduction in cooling room for the 32 rooms installed the sunshade BIPV was estimated to be 40442.27kcal/day, which will be able to bring the maximum reduction effect of 17.1kW in energy and reduce the investment cost owing to the reduction in cooling load when initially designing the building.

Development of an Integrated Meter Reading Home Concentrate Device (통합 원격검침 지시장치 개발)

  • This paper highlights the home concentrate device(HCD) that integrates the data reading and display of the six types of meters (water, hot water, heating, cooling, gas and electricity) used in Korean residential areas. Unlike the conventional system which utilizes single MCU, the developed system uses two MCUs for one MCU to gather the meter readings and for the other MCU to communicate to the server computer. Hard ware design, communication protocols, LCD design and program structures are discussed and the test results are shown in this paper. With the implementation of integrated meter reading, the developed system can increase the popularity of automatic meter reading(AMR) with its better scalability, pricing, installation fee, maintenance and faster response.

Study on Thermal Comfort and Indoor Air Quality in the Classroom with System Air-conditioner and Ventilation System for Cooling Loads (시스템에어컨과 환기시스템 설치 강의실에서 냉방시 열쾌적성 및 실내공기질 연구)

  • The experimental and the numerical study was performed on the comparison of thermal comfort(TC) and indoor air quality(IAQ) in the lecture room for cooling loads when the operating conditions are changed. PMV value and $CO_2$ concentration of the lecture room were measured and compared with the numerical results. The numerical results showed a good agreement with the experimental one and then the numerical tool was used to analyze thermal comfort and IAQ for a couple of operating conditions. As a result it was found that the increment of the discharge angle of system air-conditioner makes TC uniformity worse, but rarely affects IAQ. Also TC and IAQ were hardly affected by the variation of the discharge airflow. Finally it turned out that TC is merely affected by the increment of the ventilation airflow, but the average $CO_2$ concentration can be satisfied with Japanese IAQ standards of classrooms when the ventilation airflow is more than $800m^3/h$ in this study.

  • 한전에서는 배전용 변압기의 부하관리를 위하여 전국사업소에 산재해 있는 변압기를 NDIS1) 부하관리 시스템으로 데이터 베이스화 하고, 각 변대에 수용되어 있는 고객의 월별 전기사용량을 추출하기 위하여 영업정보시스템과 연계하여 변압기, 배전선 개체관리는 물론 부하계산, 부하실적 및 부하예측 자료를 관리하고 있다. 이중 전등부하는 고객의 월간 사용전력량(kWh)과 최대부하(kVA)의 부하특성에 따른 상관 계수를 산정하여 이를 상관식에 적용하여 최대부하를 산출하고 있으며, 동력부하는 계약전력 및 종합수용률을 적용하여 부하전류를 계산하고 있으나 최근 고객의 냉방부하 급증으로 인하여 고객의 계약전력과 실제 설비용량과의 많은 차이가 발생하고 있어 변압기 관리에 어려움이 있고, 과부하로 인하여 변압기가 소손되는 사례도 발생하고 있다. 따라서 변압기 무선부하 감시시스템으로 측정한 결과를 토대로 변압기 이용율 계산의 정확도를 높이고 변압기 관리를 효율적으로 할 필요가 있다.

  • Thermal energy storage(TES) cooling system using cheaper electricity of off-peak time has been applied to relieve a significant portion of the peak demand of electricity during the daytime in summer. Slurry ice type thermal energy storage cooling system is one kind of more efficient ice-thermal energy storage cooling system than Ice-on-Coil type or Encapsulated type TES cooling system, even though, which are more popular TES system. This experimental study was carried out to observe flow pattern and formation of slurry ice in reversing flow layer to improve efficiency of heat transfer between fluid and freezing tube and to disturb ice adhesion on tube surface. The reversing flow layer was made by using reversing materials in heat exchanger section(test section) to disturb ice adhesion. At this experiment, styrofoam balls and poly propylene balls were used as reversing materials, and a 20wt% solution of ethylene glycol was used as reversing flow layer. The experimental apparatus was constructed of the test section for making/storing slurry ice, the brine tank, pumps for circulating of a 20wt% solution of ethylene glycol and brine, a flow-meter, a data logger for measuring the temperature. The experiments were carried out under various conditions, with volumetric flow rate, ball filling rate and air filling rate.

  • This report Introduces a total heat exchanger in a solar air-conditioning system using Lithium Chloride(LiCl) solution. The hot and humid outside air is cooled and dehumidified by LiCl solution that is sprayed on the packed layer of the total heat exchanger. LiCl solution once diluted is concentrated again in a regenerator using solar energy. Three types as the packed materials were used in this experiment and the dehumidification performance was evaluated by the value of $k_xa(kg/h{\cdot}m^3{\cdot}{\Delta}x)$, overall mass transfer coefficient based on a humidity ratio potential difference, the influence of inlet LiCl solution flow rate, air flow rate, packed layer height on $k_xa$ was investigated. It was found that air flow rate, LiCl solution flow rate, packed layer height for all types had a great influnce on the value of $k_xa$.

  • This paper is performed to develop a tripple-tube exchanger which can improve the system efficiency. Three different tube diameters are compacted by one body(tripple-tube) to recover waste heat from heat exchanging among the fluids. With this, the tripple-tube shows higher cooling capacity than the double-tube after comparing between those two systems. The results of this paper are basic data to design the optimum tripple-tube heat exchanger.

  • In the conventional operation of ice-storage system based on operator's experience and judgement, the failure in forecast of cooling load occurs frequently due to operator's misjudgement and unskilled operation. This study presents the method of constructing self-organizing fuzzy models which forecast tomorrow temperature, humidity and cooling load periodically for economic and efficient operation of ice-storage system. To check the effectiveness and feasibility of the suggested algorithm, the actual example for forecasting temperature, humidity and cooling load of ice- storage system in KEPCO training institute, Sokcho, is examined. The computer simulation results show that the accuracy of temperature, humidity, cooling load forecast of the suggested algorithm is higher than that of the conventional methods.
