Air conditioners adopting high energy efficiency and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant are being developed globally. In case of commercial air conditioner, R32 with lower GWP than R410A is attracting industrial attentions. In this study, the performance of water-to-water geothermal heat pump adopting R32 is compared with that of the heat pump using R410A. By using R32 instead of R410A, heating capacity and COP in heating standard condition can be increased by 8.8% and 6.3% respectively. Also, cooling capacity and COP in cooling standard condition can be increased by 5.3% and 3.1% respectively by using R32. But in case of using R32, systemic improvements are required to decrease discharge temperature of compressor since discharge temperature rises abnormally in heating operations.

In South Korea, millions of poultry have died due to repeated heat waves every year. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of heating and cooling loads of chicken houses in Korea and to present an effective insulation and ventilation measures to minimize the damage of poultry due to summer heat wave and to save energy in chicken houses in winter. The heating and cooling loads of standard chicken house were calculated. As a result of the calculation of maximum heating load based on the minimum ventilation rate in winter, the outdoor air temperature requiring heating was $6{\sim}7^{\circ}C$ to keep the indoor air temperature of chicken houses as $24^{\circ}C$. The peak cooling load of chicken houses was mostly taken by the heat generated by chickens and the heat gain due to ventilation. The heat gain through building envelopes was as small as neglectable. Most of chicken houses is usually cooled by gigantic forced ventilation in summer in Korea. When the chicken houses are cooled by electric cooling machine such as cooler or air conditioner, it is more effective to keep minimum ventilation rate to reduce the maximum cooling load. To lower the temperature of supplying water to cooling pad, it is recommended to use the underground water below 10 meters from the ground if there is abundant underground water.

Thermal energy storage(TES) cooling system using cheaper electricity of off-peak time has been applied to relieve a significant portion of the peak demand of electricity during the daytime in summer. Slurry ice type thermal energy storage cooling system is one kind of more efficient ice-thermal energy storage cooling system than Ice-on-Coil type or Encapsulated type TES cooling system, even though, which are more popular TES system. This experimental study was carried out to observe flow pattern and formation of slurry ice in reversing flow layer to improve efficiency of heat transfer between fluid and freezing tube and to disturb ice adhesion on tube surface. The reversing flow layer was made by using reversing materials in heat exchanger section(test section) to disturb ice adhesion. At this experiment, styrofoam balls and poly propylene balls were used as reversing materials, and a 20wt% solution of ethylene glycol was used as reversing flow layer. The experimental apparatus was constructed of the test section for making/storing slurry ice, the brine tank, pumps for circulating of a 20wt% solution of ethylene glycol and brine, a flow-meter, a data logger for measuring the temperature. The experiments were carried out under various conditions, with volumetric flow rate, ball filling rate and air filling rate.

This study evaluated the improvements for circuits of a combat vehicle distribution box to reduce the noise generated in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. An analysis of the distribution boxes that failed the standard revealed the conducted noise generated from the converter and semiconductor switching elements on the circuit board. The distribution box transfers power from the generator and battery to the cooling system of a combat vehicle to keep turning the air conditioner on and off. Two methods were proposed to overcome this problem: a passive filter was added to the circuit board for the first method, and the converter and switching elements were replaced with the relays for the second method. Both methods were effective in reducing noise, but a greater improvement was obtained from the second method. The second method was applied to a combat vehicle system and was found to be suitable according to the EMC standards.
In an effort to obtain high efficiency in gas fired absorption chillers, a new working fluid has been developed with thc addition of the component of $LiNO_3$, LiCl and LiI to the conventional solution of $LiBr-H_2O$. The solubility and vapor pressure of the 4 component working fluid developed in this work were measured and compared to the results of $LiBr-H_2O$ solution. It was observed that there exists an optimal mole ratio of the inorganic salts in terms of solubility. The mole ratio of LiBr, $LiNO_3$ and LiCl was found to be around 5:1:1~2 in the $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture, and in the case of $LiBr-LiO_3-Lil-H_2O$ and $LiBr-Lil-LiCl-H_2O$ mixtures, the mole ratio of LiBr, $LiNO_3$ and Lil/ LiBr, LiI and LiCl were found to be around 5:1:1 and 5:1:0.5~1 respectively. The vapor pressure of the 4 component working fluid of the optimal mole ratio was increascd with adding the component of $LiNO_3$, LiCl and LiI except for $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture. The absorption capacity of $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture was obtained higher than that of $LiBr-H_2O$ mixture.

The life cycle assessment on greenhouse gas emission of reinforced concrete buildings shows that more than 70 percent of greenhouse gas that is discharged by a building is discharged in the building maintenance stage, including cooling and heating. To reduce the greenhouse gas emission, maintenance planning to minimize the energy consumption is necessary in the design stage. In this paper, two heat storage rooms are tested to save the air cooling energy of the buildings. The specimens are essentially identical, except that chamber A contained paraffin sheets as the finishing material, while the other, chamber B, served as a control. The test results show that chamber A with the paraffin sheets exhibited less temperature change than chamber B without the sheets when temperature was increased outside of the specimens. The heating energy was probably consumed in the phase change of the paraffin sheets, which can be useful for reducing energy consumption related to air cooling during the summer.

Peak cooling load of large buildings is generally greater than their peak heating load. Internal and solar heat gains are used fur selection of adquate equipment in large building in cold winter climate like Canada and even Korea. The cost of geothermal heat exchanger to meet the cooling loads can increase the initial cost of ground source heat pump system to the extend less costly conventional system often chosen. Thermal ice storage system has been used for many years in Korea to reduce chiller capacity and shift Peak electrical time and demand. A distribution system designed to take advantage of heat extracted from the ice, and use of geothermal loop (geothermal heat exchanger) to heat as an alternate heat source and sink is well known to provide many benifits. The use of thermal energy storage (TES) reduces the heat pump capacity and peak cooling load needed in large building by as much as 40 to $60\%$ with less mechanical equipment and less space for mechanical room. Additionally TES can reduce the size and cost of the geothermal loop by 1/3 to 1/4 compared to ground coupled heat pump system that is designed to meet the peak heating and cooling load and also can eliminate difficuties of geothermal loop installation such as space requirements and thermal conditions of soil and rock at the urban area.
During the growing period, the integrated solar radiation inside the greenhouse was 12.7MJ·m-2d-1, and which was 90% of the average daily global radiation outside the greenhouse, 14.1MJ·m-2d-1. The 24-hour average temperature inside the greenhouse from July to August, which has the highest temperature of the year, was 3.04℃ lower than the outside temperature, and 4.07℃ lower after the rainy season. Before the operation of fog cooling system, the average daily RH (%) was lowered to a minimum of 40% (20% for daytime), making it inappropriate for paprika cultivation, but after the operation of fog system, the daily RH during the daytime increased to 70 to 85%. The average humidity deficit increased to a maximum of 12.7g/m3 before fog supply, but decreased to 3.7g/m3 between July and August after fog supply, and increased again after October. The daytime residual CO2 concentration inside the greenhouse was 707 ppm on average during the whole growing period. The marketable yield of paprika harvested from July 27th to November 23rd, 2020 was higher in 'DSP-7054' and 'Allrounder' with 14,255kg/10a and 14,161kg/10a, respectively, followed by 'K-Gloria orange', 'Volante' and 'Nagono'. There were significant differences between paprika cultivars in fruit length, fruit diameter, soluble solids (°Brix), and flash thickness (mm) of paprika produced in summer season at large single-span plastic greenhouse. The soluble solids content was higher in the orange cultivars 'DSP-7054' and 'Naarangi' and the flesh thickness was higher in the yellow and orange cultivars, with 'K-Gloria orange' and 'Allrounder' being the thickest. The marketable yield of paprika, which was treated with cooling and heating treatments in the root zone, increased by 16.1% in the entire cultivars compared to the untreated ones, increased by 16.5% in 'Nagano', 10.3% in the 'Allrounder', 20.2% in the 'Naarangi', and 17.3% in 'Raon red'.
Electricity and heat load profiles by use types on an hourly basis at the least are essential for assessing economic viability of new cogeneration and CES projects and for optimally operating existing cogeneration and CES facilities. We adopt a multilevel model to specify heat load profiles so as to utilize in a flexible manner the panel nature of our data on weather and heating/cooling use. Converting the multilevel model to the linear mixed-effects model, we estimate the model by panel FGLS. The estimated load profile model for each distinct use type accounts for the effects of temperature, humidity, each hour over the year, each day of the week, each type of legal holidays, and heating/cooling area on energy use. To save space, we feature in detail the heating profile of the household.

This study investigates the pressure leakage characteristics of a desiccant rotor with a brush-type air seal. Through a pressure leakage experiment, a correlation equation for the leakage air flow rate is obtained as a function of the air seal area and pressure difference. Using this equation, an air leakage model for the desiccant rotor is developed. By comparing simulation results with the experimental results for the desiccant rotor, the accuracy of the air leakage model is demonstrated. A performance test of a desiccant rotor with various air flow rates is carried out. Using the air leakage model, the effective mass flow rate and air leakage rate are found. In addition, the characteristics of the air leakage are analyzed for a desiccant cooling system using the developed air leakage model.
