Numerical Analysis of Cold Storage System with Array of Solid-Liquid Phase Change Module (저온의 고-액상변화 모듈 용기의 배열에 따른 축냉시스템의 수치해석)

  • This paper is the fundamental study for the application of cold storage system to the transportation equipment by sea and land. This numerical study presents the solid-liquid phase change phenomenon of calcium chloride solution of 30wt %. The governing equations are 1-dimensional unsteady state heat transfer equations of $1^{st}$ order partial differential equations. This type of latent heat storage material is often usable in fishery vessel for controlling the temperature of container with constant condition. The governing equation was discretized with finite difference method and the program was composed with Mathcad program. The main parameters of this solution were the initial temperature of heat storage material, ambient temperature of cold air and the velocity of cold air. The data of boundary layer thickness becomes thin with the increasing of cold air flowing velocity and also the heat storage completion time become shorten.

A Quantification Method for the Cold Pool Effect on Nocturnal Temperature in a Closed Catchment (폐쇄집수역의 냉기호 모의를 통한 일 최저기온 분포 추정)

  • Cold air on sloping surfaces flows down to the valley bottom in mountainous terrain at calm and clear nights. Based on the assumption that the cold air flow may be the same as the water flow, current models estimate temperature drop by regarding the cold air accumulation at a given location as the water-like free drainage. At a closed catchment whose outlet is blocked by man-made obstacles such as banks and roads, however, the water-like free drainage assumption is no longer valid because the cold air accumulates from the bottom first. We developed an empirical model to estimate quantitatively the effect of cold pool on nocturnal temperature in a closed catchment. In our model, a closed catchment is treated like a "vessel", and a digital elevation model (DEM) was used to calculate the maximum capacity of the cold pool formed in a closed catchment. We introduce a topographical variable named "shape factor", which is the ratio of the cold air accumulation potential across the whole catchment area to the maximum capacity of the cold pool to describe the relative size of temperature drop at a wider range of catchment shapes. The shape factor is then used to simulate the density profile of cold pool formed in a given catchment based on a hypsometric equation. The cold lake module was incorporated with the existing model (i.e., Chung et al., 2006), generating a new model and predicting distribution of minimum temperature over closed catchments. We applied this model to Akyang valley (i.e., a typical closed catchment of 53 $km^2$ area) in the southern skirt of Mt. Jiri National Park where 12 automated weather stations (AWS) are operational. The performance of the model was evaluated based on the feasibility of delineating the temperature pattern accurately at cold pool forming at night. Overall, the model's ability of simulating the spatial pattern of lower temperature were improved especially at the valley bottom, showing a similar pattern of the estimated temperature with that of thermal images obtained across the valley at dawn (0520 to 0600 local standard time) of 17 May 2011. Error in temperature estimation, calculated with the root mean square error using the 10 low-lying AWSs, was substantially decreased from $1.30^{\circ}C$ with the existing model to $0.71^{\circ}C$ with the new model. These results suggest the feasibility of the new method in predicting the site-specific freeze and frost warning at a closed catchment.

  • An experimental analysis of the flow inside the refrigeration compartment of a home refrigerator was conducted in order to achieve better performances in terms of uniform temperature distribution and cooling speed. 2D PIV and stereoscopic PIV were used for the experiments on an actual-size refrigerator at operating conditions. Two CCD cameras were employed for a wider field of view in the measurement of the shelf, and stereoscopic PIV was used to measure the three velocity components at the various cooling duct outlets and the mean velocity fields were area-integrated to calculate the flow-rates. 50 to 100 instantaneous velocity fields were time averaged for the mean velocity fields. With the result of this analysis, a new cooling duct system was developed, with the refrigerator's cooling performance increasing 11% in terms of cooling speed, and 25% in temperature uniformity.

  • A numerical study has been performed on flow characteristics in a domestic refrigerator whose size is $540mm{\times}1,530mm{\times}680mm$, considering existence of a fan and evaporator. The flow field has been simulated with the low Reynolds number $k-\bar{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model and SIMPLE algorithm based on the finite volume method. The region of fan which makes driving force for cold air distribution was modeled as a region in which momentum sources are generated uniformly. The concept of the distributed pressure resistance was applied to describe the momentum loss from evaporator. The result showed that the rate of cold air distribution into freezing room and cold storage room was almost 7 : 3.

  • 본 논문은 냉동상품용 자판기를 구현하는데 가장 핵심적인 상품인출기구에 관한 것으로 자판기의 냉동고에 저장된 상품을 외부로 인출할 때 냉기의 유출을 최소화하여 전력의 효율을 높여 전기에너지를 절감할 수 있도록하고. 냉동고 내부의 이송기구가 결빙에 의한 고장이 발생되지 않도록 이송기구를 구현하는 것이다. 기존 자판기는 상품을 냉동고에서 외부로 인출하려면 여러 기계, 기구 장치를 이용하여 어렵게 이송하여야 하고, 상품을 이동시키는 모터축이나 체인이 저온으로 인하여 결빙되어 작동불능 상태가 되게 된다. 이러한 고장은 자판기가 자판기 고유의 동작을 할 수 없을 뿐 아니라 소비자들에게 불편함을 주게 되는데 고장을 방지하여 신뢰성을 높였다. 그리고 상품을 외부로 인출시 저온 냉장고는 많은 냉기를 유출하게 되어 냉동 자판기로서의 활용을 무색하게 할 뿐 아니라, 다시 저온으로 유지하는데 많은 전력을 소모하게 된다. 이러한 점을 보완하여, 에너지 절약 및 보다 신뢰성 높은 냉동 식품용 자판기를 구현하였다.

Nocturnal temperature distribution on orange orchards in Cheju Island (II) (제주도 감귤 과수원의 야간 기온 분포(II))

  • The Characteristics of nocturnal temperature fields were analyzed to understand the factors of freezing-and-cold damages on orange orchards in Cheju Island. Temperatures were measured from January 7th through 27, 1995 at 25 sites in an area of 1x1.25$ extrm{km}^2$, Wasan-ri, Chochon-up, Pukcheju-kun located on the northeastern slope of Mt.Hanla. Several other weather elements such as wind and cloud were observed as supplementary data. Surface weather maps were also analyzed to clarify the influence of prevailing pressure patterns on the temperature fields. The vertical temperature profiles were obtained at the height from the ground up to 360 cm in 30 cm intervals at site 3, a frost hollow, and site 10 on the upper slope. The results show that freezing damages occured in the hollows, terrain depressions, rather than at the upper slope due to nocturnal radiation cooling as well as accumulation of cold airflow from Mt.Hanla. Windbreaks of densely planted Japanese ceders with stone-walls also roled as obstacles to the cold airflow in nights with Clear skies and light winds. The maximum intensity of temperature inversion in hollows, quasi-cold air lake, was 3.1$^{\circ}C$. Cold air from Mt.Hanla was trapped in the depressions up to a height of 90cm forming frost pocket. Man-made facilities such as shelterbelt or stone-wall which are built to prevent the penetration of cold north-westeries in winter aggravated the cold damage. The differance of daily minimum temperatures between before and behind shelterbelts was 2.$0^{\circ}C$. The man-made convection by smudgin which raised the temperatures up to 3.8$^{\circ}C$ can reduce the cold damage in the hellows.

  • 축냉설비는 심야시간대에 얼음이나 냉수를 저장하였다가, 이를 주간 및 저녁시간대에 냉방에 이용할 수 있는 기능을 가진 냉기저장식 냉방설비를 말한다. 여름철 냉방용 전력을 전력수요가 적은 심야시간대로 분산시킴으로써 하계 Peak 억제 및 심야수요 증대로 부하평준화를 촉진하여 전기공급 원가를 절감하기 위하여 보급을 하고 있는데 활성화 방안을 제시한다.
