Experimental investigation of intrusive gravity current in stratified fluid (성층화된 유체 내에서 침입중력류의 실험적 연구)

  • 중력류는 두 유체 사이에서 물질의 종류 또는 온도차로 인한 밀도 차이에 의해 발생되는 유체의 흐름을 말하며, 자연환경에서는 저수지에서의 중층탁류, 사막에서의 모래 폭풍, 하구에서의 염수쐐기 등이 그 예이다. 여름철에 강우가 집중되는 우리나라는 홍수에 의한 범람, 침수 등이 발생할 뿐만 아니라 댐이나 하천, 호수 등에 흙탕물이 유입되어 중간층에 정체하는 중층탁류에 의한 피해가 자주 발생하고 있다. 과거에 중층탁류는 일시적인 현상에 불과하였으나 오늘날에는 인공적으로 형성된 정체성 호수나 하천에서 장기간 체류하여 생태계의 교란과 수질 악화를 초래하고 있다. 중층탁류에 의한 피해를 저감시키기 위해서는 본래 자연 상태의 하천이나 호수와 같이 온도분포가 비선형적으로 성층화 된 상태에서 탁수가 유입되어 중층탁류가 형성되는 과정과 흐름 특성을 이해하는 것이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 중력류 흐름 해석을 위한 실험 장치를 개발하였다. 실험 장치 중 수조의 제원은 1200 $700{\times}300mm$이며, 수조 상부에는 가열장치를 설치하였고, 수조 하부에는 냉각장치를 설치하였다. 이들 장치들을 가동하여 깊이에 따른 자연현상에서의 비선형적인 온도 단면을 재현한다. 수리 실험방법은 깊이 방향으로 온도에 따라 비선형적으로 성층화 된 유체 내로 경사가 있는 판을 따라 수조내의 성층화된 유체의 중간 온도 혹은 밀도를 가진 유체를 침입시킨다. 침입유체는 성층화된 유체 내에서 초기에는 중력에 의해 운동량을 갖고 경사면을 따라 일정한 속도로 흘러내려 간다. 이후 바닥으로 하강 한 후 부력에 의해 상승하여 동일한 밀도층의 위치에서 횡방향으로 전파하게 된다. 이 연구에서는 이와 같이 비선형적으로 성층화된 유체 내에서의 침입 중력류의 흐름 특성을 실험적으로 관측하고 분석한다.

  • An experimental investigation is carried out to see the local heat transfer characteristics of a rotating heated flat plate surface with constant heat flux when a normal water jet is impinging on this surface. The effects of jet Reynolds number, rotating Reynolds number are investigated while the distance between the nozzle and the flat plate is set fixed. As a result, correlations to relate the local Nusselt number to the local rotational Reynolds number, jet Prandtl number and the dimensionless radial position are presented.

  • The typical operating temperature of an automotive fuel cell is lower than that of an internal combustion engine, which necessitates a refined strategy for thermal management. In particular, the performance of the cooling module has to be higher for a fuel cell system because the temperature difference between the fuel cell and the surrounding is lower than in the case of the internal combustion engine. Even though the cooling system of an automotive fuel cell determines the operating temperature and temperature distribution of the fuel cell, it has attracted little research attention. This study presents the mathematical model of a cooling system for an automotive fuel cell system using Matlab/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In particular, a radiator model is developed for design optimization from the development stage to the operating stage for an automotive fuel cell. The cooling system model comprises a fan, pump, and radiator. The pump and fan model have an empirical relation, and the dynamics of the pump and fan are only explained by motor dynamics. The basic design study was conducted, and the geometric setup of the radiator was investigated. When the control logic was applied, the pump senses the coolant inlet temperature and the fan senses the coolant out temperature. Additionally, the cooling module is integrated with the fuel cell system model so that the performance of the cooling module can be investigated under realistic operating conditions.

  • Electrowinning process recovers uranium with actinide elements from spent fuels and is a key step in the Pyroprocessing because of proliferation resistance. An analysis of heat transfer of the Electrowinning cell was conducted to develop basic tool for designing engineering-scale Electrowinner. For the calculation of the heat transfer, ANSYS CFX commercial code was adapted. As a result of the calculation, the vertical Heating Zone length had great effect upon temperature of LiCl-KCl eutectic salt. To maintain constant temperature in the salt, the Heating Zone length should be three times longer than the height of the salt. However, the argon and salt temperatures were barely affected by the Cooling Zone length. The temperature under the Cell cover was mainly influenced by the number of the cooling plates. When the cooling plates were installed more than the number of 5, temperature under the cover was maintained below $250^{\circ}C$. These temperature properties had similar tendency toward the temperature of the Cell which was measured from experiments, Simulated heat transfer information from this study could be used to design engineering-scale Electrowinner.

  • Uncooled metallic thin-film thermopile infrared detectors have been fabricated, and the figures of merit for the detectors were examined. The hot junctions of a thermopile were prepared on a $Si_{3}N_{4}/SiO_{2}/Si_{3}N_{4}$-membrane which acts as a thermal isolation layer, the cold junctions on the membrane supported with the silicon rim which functions as a heat sink, and Au-black was used as an infrared absorber. Infrared absorbance of Au-black, which strongly depends on the chamber pressure during Au-evaporation and its mass per area, was found to be about 90 % in the wavelength range from 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 14${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Voltage responsivity, noise equivalent power, and specific detectivity of Bi-Sb thermopile infrared detector at 5 Hz-chopping frequency were about 10.5V/W, 2.3 nW/Hz$^{1/2}$, 및 $1.9\times10^{7}$ cm.Hz$^{1/2}$/w at room temperature in air, respectively.

  • 정보통신 시스템의 고속/고밀도화 요구에 따라 개발되고 있는 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) 교환기 시스템은 팬을 이용한 강제대류냉각 방식의 채택과 시스템이 설치되는 장소에 따른 여러 환경조건에 의한 진동 문제가 발생될 수 있다. 시스템의 진동으로 인한 피해중 커넥터 접촉부에서 전기적 특성의 변화는 고속으로 전송되는 신호의 왜곡을 유발시킬 수 있어 시스템 개발시 이에 대한 충분한 연구 및 시험이 요구되고 있다. 진동환경에서 커넥터 접촉부는 접촉면의 상대운동으로 인한 접촉저항의 증가와 순간적인 신호전달 중단을 가져오게 되며, 특히 PCB/Connector Assembly에서 커넥터 접촉부는 PCB(Printed Circuit Board)의 장착 조건 및 동적 거동에 따라 전기적 특성이 변할 수 있다. 시스템에서 커넥터의 동적 거동을 이해하기 위해서는 PCB를 포함하는 시스템내 여러 요소의 동적 특성 이해와 복잡한 해석과정이 요구되며, 시스템 개발자는 진동 환경에서 이것의 시험 결과에 따라 커넥터의 사용을 결정해야 할 것이다. 커넥터의 전기적 특성 시험법은 IEC, EIA드 여러 국제 규격에 제시되어 있으며, 본 연구의 대상이 된 ATM교환기 시스템에서 PCB/Connector Assembly의 진동환경에서 접촉저항 측정과 관련된 접촉저항 임계치 및 측정법은 IEEE 규격 및 Bellcore 규격에 규정되어 있다. Bellcore에는 주어진 진동시험주기 전후에 IEC 규격의 LLCR(Low Level Contact Resistance) 측정회로를 이용한 측정법이 규정되어 있고, 냉각팬 및 주위 환경진동이 가해지는 동안의 영향에 대한 시험법은 규정되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 한국통신의 전자장비 운용환경시험 조건의 진동에서 ATM 교환기 시스템에 사용되는 PCB/Connector Assembly 커넥터 접촉부의 접촉저항 변화와 PCB 진동에 의한 영향을 시험하였다.proach)등이 제시되었고 평면파 영역에 한하여 해서되어져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 분할 접근 방법(Segmentation Approach)을 이용하여 다공 요소로 이루어진 소음기를 해석하는데 적용하였다.로 성능 및 안정도에 영향을 미치므로 주의 깊게 선정해야 한다. 방법의 실질적인 적용에는 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 방법들의 단점을 극복할 수 있는 새로운 회귀적 모우드 변수 규명 방법을 개발하였다. 이는 Fassois와 Lee가 ARMAX모델의 계수를 효율적으로 추정하기 위하여 개발한 뱉치방법인 Suboptimum Maximum Likelihood 방법[5]를 기초로 하여 개발하였다. 개발된 방법의 장점은 응답 신호에 유색잡음이 존재하여도 모우드 변수들을 항상 정확하게 구할 수 있으며, 또한 알고리즘의 안정성이 보장된 것이다.. 여기서는 실험실 수준의 평 판모델을 제작하고 실제 현장에서 이루어질 수 있는 진동제어 구조물에 대 한 동적실험 및 FRS를 수행하는 과정과 동일하게 따름으로써 실제 발생할 수 있는 오차나 error를 실험실내의 차원에서 파악하여 진동원을 있는 구조 물에 대한 진동제어기술을 보유하고자 한다. 이용한 해마의 부피측정은 해마경화증 환자의 진단에 있어 육안적인 MR 진단이 어려운 제한된 경우에만 실제적 도움을 줄 수 있는 보조적인 방법으로 생각된다.ofile whereas relaxivity at high field is not affected by τS. A Study on Thermal Performance of Plate Cooler for Cooling Medium Speed Engine Lubricant Oil (선박용 중속엔진 오일냉각용 판형쿨러의 전열성능에 관한 연구)

  • Plate heat exchangers(PHE) have been commercialized since the 1920s. Since then, although the basic concept of PHEs has changed little, its design and construction have progressed significantly to accommodate higher temperatures, higher pressures, and large heat exchanging capacities. The development trend of PHEs is consistent with heat plate developments with better thermal efficiency, lower pressure drop, and good flow distribution. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the main development processes of a plate cooler for medium-speed engine lubricant oil cooling in vessels which is in line with the development trend of PHEs and to provide its thermal performance data that were found out during experimental tests. The plate cooler in this study cannot measure the wall temperatures directly due to its structural characteristics, so the heat transfer coefficients were calculated using the modified Wilson Plot method. The water-to-water tests were first conducted experimentally to figure out the characteristics of heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops on the water side and then the water-to-oil tests followed to obtain the heat transfer coefficients on the oil side. The test results showed that heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops on both water and oil side increased with flow rates, and it was also found that all the development targets of the plate cooler in this study were achieved successfully.

Chemical Effects on Head Loss across Containment Sump Strainer under Post-LOCA Environment (LOCA이후 환경에서 원자로건물집수조 여과기의 수두손실에 대한 화학적 영향)

  • A test apparatus has been fabricated to simulate chemical effect on head loss through a strainer in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) containment water pool after a loss of coolant accident (LOCA). Tests were conducted under condition of same ratio of strainer surface area to water volume between the test appratus and the containment sump. A series of tests have been performed to investigate the effects of spray, existence of calcium-silicate with tri-sodium phosphate (TSP), and composition of materials. The results showed that head loss across the chemical bed with even a small amount of calcium-silicate insulation instantaneously increased as soon as TSP was added to the test solution. Also, the head loss across the test screen is strongly affected by spray duration and is increased rapidly at the early stage, because of high dissolution and precipitation of aluminum and zinc. After passivation of aluminum and zinc by corrosion, the head loss increase is much slowed down and is mainly induced by materials such as calcium, silicon, and magnesium leached from NUKONTM and concrete. Furthermore, it is newly found that the spay buffer agent, tri-sodium phosphate, to form protective coating on the aluminum surface and reduce aluminum leaching is not effective for a large amount of aluminum and a long spray.

Geological and Geophysical Characteristics of the New Hebrides Basin (뉴헤브리디스 해분의 지질.지구물리학적 특징에 관한 연구)

  • The New Hebrides Basin is an inactive non back-arc basin located at the convergent boundary of the Pacific and Info-Australian plates. This basin was formed from 46 Ma to 60 Ma. The basin has two spreading episodes with rates of 34 mm/a for 42 to 47 Ma and 17 mm/a for 47 to 60 Ma. The sediments covered in the basin has uniform thickness of 0.65 sec. The age-depth correlation curve of the New Hebrides Basin can be represented by the following equation: $Depth(m)=2689+312\sqrt{Age}(Ma)$ The coefficient of 312 in this equation is close to that for major oceans, 350. This suggests that the cooling processes of the lithospheres in the New Hebrides Basin and major oceans are similar to each other. Free-air gravity anomalies of the basin varying from -22.3 mgal to +59.0 mgal. The mean value is +30.2 mgal higher than those of the normal oceans. Moderately large free-air gravity anomalies in the New Hebrides Basin are presumably owing to its location on a marginal swell along the New Hebrides Trench. It is generally observed that the ocean floor is very gently uplifted in a zone about 200 km oceanward of the trench axis. Positive free-air gravity anomalies amounting to $50{\sim}60$ mgal are usually observed on the crest of the swell. This topography is presumably by bending of the oceanic lithosphere so as to dynamically maintain nonisostatic states for some duration.

Improvement of Insulation System for LNG Storage Tank Base Slab (LNG 저장탱크 바닥판 단열 시스템 개선)

  • Liquefied natural gas(LNG) is natural gas that has been converted temporarily to liquid form for ease of storage and transport it. Natural gas is the worlds cleanest burning fossil fuel and it has emerged as the environmentally preferred fuel of choice. In Korea, the demand of this has been increased since the first import from the Indonesia in 1986. LNG takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state by cooling it to approximately $-162^{\circ}C(-260^{\circ}F)$. The reduction in volume therefore makes it much more cost efficient to transport and store it. Modern LNG storage tanks are typically the full containment type, which is a double-wall construction with reinforced concrete outer wall and a high-nickel steel inner tank, with extremely efficient insulation between the walls. The insulation will be installed to LNG outer tank for the isolation of cryogenic temperature. The insulation will be installed in the base slab, wall and at the roof. According to the insulation's arrangement, the different aspects of temperature transmission is shown around the outer tank. As the result of the thermal & stress analysis, by the installing cellular glass underneath the perlite concrete, the temperature difference is greatly reduced between the ambient temperature and inside of concrete wall, also reducing section force according to temperature load.
