Evaluation of Pressure History due to Steam Explosion (증기폭발에 의한 압력이력 평가)

  • Steam explosions can be caused by fuel-coolant interactions resulting from failure of the external vessel cooling system in a new nuclear power plant. This can threaten the integrity of structures, including the nuclear reactor and the containment building. In the present study, an improved technique for analyzing the steam explosion phenomenon was proposed on the basis of previous research and was verified by simulations involving alumina experiments. Also, the improved analysis technique was applied to determine the pressure history of the reactor cavity in accordance with postulated failure locations. The results of the analysis revealed that the effects of vessel side failure are more serious than those of vessel bottom failure, with approximately 70% higher maximum pressure.

  • Hot forming using boron steel is currently used for manufacturing low-weight automobile body parts, and a high tensile strength of about 1,500 MPa is obtained after hot forming. However, a high fatigue life is a more important factor than high strength when it is used for automobile suspension parts. A tubular torsion beam axle (TTBA) is one of these suspension parts, and this research deals with the fatigue characteristic of TTBA using hot forming. The low cyclic fatigue life of boron steel is investigated according to the cooling method. In addition, a structural and fatigue analysis of TTBA is performed to predict the fatigue life. The stress concentration that occurs in the tubular torsion beam is found, and the longest fatigue life occurs when rapid cooling is utilized in the TTBA fabrication.

  • "드럼 코아시편 채취장치" 는 침출/내수성 시험, 압축강도 측정시험, 열 순환 시험등 의 파괴적 물성시험을 수행하기 위해서 경질(시멘트 고화체) 및 연질(파라핀왁스) 등의 방사성폐기물드럼으로부터 코아 시료를 채취하는 장비이다, 시편채취의 최대길이는 860 mm 이며 코아 시편의 직경은 50~200 mm 이며 일반적으로 "방사성폐기물 고화체의 물성시험"에 사용되는 시편은 실험실적으로 제조한 소규모 모의 고화체 시편과 고화공정에서 직접 채취한 소규모 시편, 200L 드럼으로부터 코아시편을 채취 가공하여 만든 시편과 같이 3종류가 있다. 고화공정에서 발생되는 고화체는 일반적으로 200 L 드럼에 주입되며, 고화체의 균일성 정도는 고화공정의 특성, 폐기물/고화매질 혼합비, 200 L 고화체 드럼의 냉각방식에 따라 다르다. 따라서, 실험실에서 제조한 시편과 공정에서 채취한 소규모시편은 실제 고화공정을 대표할 없으며 또한 실제 발생된 고화체의 조성과도 동일하다고 볼 수 없다. 따라서 200 L 드럼으로부터 코아시편을 채취하여 만든 시편이 고화공정과 고화체를 대표할 수 있는 시편으로 볼 수 있다 그러므로 고화체 및 고화공정을 대표할 수 있는 코아시편을 채취할 수 있는 장치를 제작하여 다양한 코아시편을 200 L 고화체 드럼으로부터 수직 코아시편을 채취할 필요가 있으며 실험에서 코아시편 채취속도와 연관된 Z-AXIS 의 Rpm은 운전범위는 0-2000 Rpm 이나 이때 너무 빠른 속도는 기계에 치명적인 손상을 초래 할 수 있으므로 위험한 것으로 나타났으며 500-1000 Rpm 의 속도가 적합한 것으로 시험되었으며 시편을 절삭하는 Spindle의 Rpm은 운전범위는 0-1500Rpm 이나 무리한 운전을 피해 가장 적절한 Speed로 운전해야하며 시험결과 500-800Rpm 이 최적운전범위로 나타났다 또한 시멘트고화체에서의 코아 채취시험에서는 Spindle의 속도는 500 Rpm, Z -AXIS 의 Rpm은 900 Rpm이 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났으며 성능평가시험을 통하여 비트부의 절삭속도와 Z축의 이동속도에 관한 그라프를 획득하였으며 시편의 크기에 따라서 Spindle의 속도를 증감하여야함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Combustion Tests of Sub-scale Combustor for a Liquid Rocket Engine with Internal Mixing Swirl Injector (내부혼합 동축 와류형 분사기를 장착한 액체로켓엔진용 축소형 연소기의 연소시험)

  • The combustion test results of the sub-scale combustor having dual swirl injector with internal mixing for a liquid rocket engine are described. The sub-scale combustor uses liquid oxygen(LOx) and kerosene as propellants and has an injector head, an ablative material combustor wall and a water cooled nozzle. The injector head has LOx manifold, fuel manifold, fire face plate, one center swirl injector and 18 main swirl injectors of internal mixing. The combustion tests were successfully performed at design and off-design points without any damages on the injectors. Combustion characteristics velocity of 1756m/s was measured at design point. High frequency combustion instability was not observed but low frequency pulsations occurred at off-design conditions.

Fabrication of Thermoelectric Module and Analysis of its Power Generation Characteristics (열전발전소자 제작 및 발전특성 분석)

  • In this study, a Bi2Te3 thermoelectric generator (TEG) was fabricated to convert unused thermal energy into useful electrical energy. For the performance test, a dedicated experiment device consisting of a heating block operating with cartridge heaters and a cooling block through which a refrigerant flows was constructed. A 3×3 array of thermocouples was mounted on the heating block and the cooling block, respectively, to derive the temperature fields and heat transfer rate onto both sides of the TEG. Experiments were conducted for a total of 9 temperature differences, obtaining V-I and P-R curves. The results of 7 variables including Seebeck coefficients that have a major effect on performance were presented as a function of the temperature difference. The feasibility of the energy recovery performance of the developed TEG was verified from the maximum power output of 7.5W and conversion efficiency of 11.3%.

정전구동 방식의 연동형 마이크로펌프의 제작

  • 최근 생물학적 분석 기구에서 시료를 처리, 분리, 검출, 샘플링 또는 분석하기 위해 사용되는 마이크로펌프(Micropump)에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 또한 전자소자의 성능과 신뢰성의 증진을 위한 전자소자의 열 문제를 해결하기 위해 냉각장치로 마이크로 펌프가 적용되기도 한다. 그 외에도 마이크로펌프는 다양한 분야에 응용이 가능하다. 마이크로펌프는 작동 방식에 따라 압전형, 공압형, 열공압형, 연동형 등의 여러 종류로 분류되고 있다. 그중에서도 최근에는 연동형 마이크로 펌프의 개발이 각광받고 있다. 기존의 연동형 펌프들은 다중 챔버를 가지고 있으며, 각각의 챔버 내에서 Dead volume이 많이 발생할 뿐만 아니라 이상적인 연동운동과는 차이가 많이 나는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 또한 압전방식과 열공압방식은 느린 응답성으로 인해 효율적인 유체 이동이 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이상적인 연동운동을 구현하기 위하여 기존의 연동형 펌프의 단점을 보완하고, 하나의 챔버에 다중전극 구조를 가지는 정전기력방식의 연동형 펌프를 개발하였다. 정전기력방식으로 펌프를 구동함으로써, 저전력으로 펌프구동이 가능하며, 하나의 챔버에 다중전극을 설치함으로써 이상적인 연동운동을 재현하였다. 그리고 Dead volume을 최소화 하였다. 또한, 빠른 반응속도로 인해 효율적인 유체 이동을 실현시킬 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 제안된 마이크로 펌프의 구성은 크게 챔버, 박막, Inlet/outlet hole으로 구성되었다. 챔버는 Si-wafer에 wet etching 공정으로 제작 하였고 그 위에 알루미늄 박막을 200 nm 증착시켰다. 챔버는 가로 32 mm, 세로 5 mm, 깊이는 $15{\mu}m$, 부피는 $200{\mu}l$으로 제작되었다. 박막은 폴리이미드(polyimide)를 사용하여 $3{\mu}m$의 두께로 제작 되었으며, 폴리이미드 박막 사이에는 200 nm 두께의 4개의 알루미늄 박막 전극을 삽입시켰다. 삽입된 4개의 전극에 개별적인 전기신호를 보냄으로써 연동운동이 가능하다. Inlet/outlet hole은 직경 2 mm의 크기로 제작되었으며, 튜브를 연결하여 유체가 흐를 수 있는 체널을 형성하였다. 제작된 마이크로 펌프의 구동전압은 115 V이며, 인가되는 주파수를 1 Hz~100 KHz까지 변화시켜 유량을 측정하였다. 작동 유체는 공기이며, 유량측정은 튜브 내에 물방울을 삽입하여 시간에 따른 이동거리를 관측하였다. 측정결과 2.2 KHz에서 2.4 mm/min의 가장 높은 유량을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 제안된 연동형 마이크로펌프는 이상적인 연동운동이 가능함으로써 기존의 연동형 방식의 문제점을 보완하였으며, 생명과학, 의학, 화학 등의 분야에서 적용이 가능하리라 기대된다.

Performance Improvement of Precooling Process and Cold Box in Hydrogen Liquefaction Process Using LNG Cold Energy (LNG 냉열이용 액체수소 제조공정의 예냉 및 Cold box의 성능 개선 연구)

  • For the hydrogen liquefaction, the large amount of energy is consumed, due to precooling, liquefaction and o-p conversion processes. The aim of this work is to improve the performance of hydrogen liquefaction process by introducing the new energy saving processes, that are the liquid nitrogen precooling process by using LNG cold energy, and the new design of cold box insulation using cold air circulation. The results show that the indirect use of LNG cold energy in precooling process enables not only to get energy saving, but to make safer operation of liquefaction plant. In new cold box, the energy loss of equipments could be reduced by nearly 35%~50% compared to the present perlite insulation, if insulation structure is organised as 3mm steel wall/20cm PUF/5cm air/20cm PUF/equipment. Additionally the equipments installed in cold box can get cooling effect, if the temperature is higher than the temperature of cold air. The application of this results can gives to increase the liquid yield of about 50% substantially in industrial hydrogen liquefaction plant.

  • We designed and developed a multi-purpose CCD camera system for three kinds of CCDs; KAF-0401E($768{\times}512$), KAF-1602E($1536{\times}1024$), KAF-3200E($2184{\times}1472$) made by KODAK Co.. The system supports fast USB port as well as parallel port for data I/O and control signal. The packing is based on two stage circuit boards for size reduction and contains built-in filter wheel. Basic hardware components include clock pattern circuit, A/D conversion circuit, CCD data flow control circuit, and CCD temperature control unit. The CCD temperature can be controlled with accuracy of approximately $0.4^{\circ}C$ in the max. range of temperature, ${\Delta}33^{\circ}C$. This CCD camera system has with readout noise $6\;e^-$, and system gain $5\;e^-/ADU$. A total of 10 CCD camera systems were produced and our tests show that all of them show passable performance.

Development of Smart Switchgear for Versatile Ventilation Garments: Optimum Diameter and Voltage Application Unit Time of One-way Shape Memory Alloy Wire for a Bi-directional Actuator (가변 통기성 의복을 위한 스마트 개폐장치 개발: 양방향 작동 액추에이터 제작을 위한 일방향 형상기억합금 와이어의 최적 직경 및 전압인가 단위시간의 도출)

  • The study figured out the operational conditions of a two-way movement actuator made of one-way shape memory alloy (OWSMA) for versatile ventilation intelligent garments. To develop a low-power actuator that consumes energy only when a garment changes its form such as opening and closing, multiple channels of OWSMA were used, and optimum diameter of the wires was examined. For the switch device, optimum voltage application unit time was determined. Optimum diameter of OWSMA wire was determined by applying 3.7V to the pre-determined candidate diameters, which demonstrated two-way operation in previous studies. In order to evaluate the optimum voltage application time, the internal diameter of the actuator was measured while increasing and decreasing by 50 ms from the unit time of voltage application. Delay time under two-way operation of the actuator was measured to minimize interference caused by heat between channels. Power of 3.7V was applied to OWSMA for assessment of optimal time, and the whole process from heating to cooling was video-recorded with a thermal image camera to determine the point of time at which the temperature of OWSMA wire dropped below the phase transformation temperature. The results showed that $0.4{\Phi}$ was the most suitable diameter, and the optimum unit time of voltage applied to open and close the actuator was 4100ms. It was also shown that the delay time should be more than 1.8 seconds between two-way operations of the actuator.

Effect of Heat Treatments on the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of OCTG (유정용 강관의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 열처리의 영향)

  • This study examined the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of J55 line pipe steel. The experiments were carried out at under the following various conditions: austenization temperature($880^{\circ}C$, $910^{\circ}C$, $940^{\circ}C$), cooling methods(water quenching, oil quenching) and tempering temperature(none, $550^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$). The phase diagram and CCT curve were simulated based on the chemical composition of J55 steel to predict the microstructures. In the results, A1, A3 temperature decreased. As the austenization temperature increased, existing austenite grains grew exponentially which seriously degraded their mechanical properties. Various microstructures, including martensite, bainite, ferrite, and pearlite, developed in accordance with the heat treatments and were closely correlated with hardness, tensile strength and toughness. Martensite was formed after water quenching, but bainite and ferrite appeared after oil quenching. FeC precipitation formed and coarsened during tempering, which improved their toughness.
