The feasibility analysis of restoring the ecological integrity of the Namyang and Yugu streams (생태하천 복원사업의 경제적 편익 분석 - 남양천 및 유구천을 중심으로 -)

  • The government has implemented the projects of restoring the ecological integrity of streams to improve its water quality and provide resting places with local residents. Because the projects require huge public investments, their economic feasibility should be investigated through ex-post examination of their benefits. This study attempts to analyze the economic feasibility of restoring the ecological integrity using specific cases of Namyang stream in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi and Yugu stream in Gongju, Chungnam. The contingent valuation (CV) method is employed to measure the benefits. To this end, a professional polling firm conducted two CV surveys of 210 and 209 households for Hwaseong and Gongju, respectively. The willingness to pay (WTP) model used in the study is based on utility difference approach and the single-bounded dichotomous choice spike model. The results reveal that the WTP for restoring ecological integrity of the Namyang and Yugu streams are estimated to be 3,140 and 10,121 won per household per year. Interestingly, the latter is about three times greater than the former. The quantitative information can be used in economic feasibility analysis of the projects of restoring the ecological integrity of the Namyang and Yugu streams.

  • 수자원의 관리를 위해서 해당 유역에 대한 유량 산정은 반드시 필요하다. 우리나라는 대하천을 대상으로 하는 유량 산정은 국가적인 차원에서 이루어지고 있는 실정이나 대부분의 소하천에서는 그렇지 못한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 특정 연구를 목적으로 남양호 상류의 5개 소하천 지점을 선정하고 평갈수기 및 홍수기 유량측정을 실시하여 각 지점별로 수위-유량 곡선식을 산정하였다. 특히 홍수기 유량측정시 수문곡선을 도시하기 위해 연속된 유출량 자료가 필요하나 각 지점별로 홍수로 인한 접근도로의 차단과 범람으로 연속된 유량자료를 획득하는데에는 많은 어려움이 있었다. 따라서 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 SCS 무차원 단위 유량도를 사용하여 기 측정된 자료를 근거로 미관측된 구간의 유량을 산정하였고 해당 홍수의 유량 산정을 통해 홍수기 유량 산정의 신뢰성을 높이고자 하였다.

Application of the QUAL2E Model and Risk Assessment for Water Quality Management in Namyang Stream in Hwaong Polder (화옹유역 남양천의 수질관리를 위한 QUAL2E적용과 위해성 평가)

  • The Namyang Stream in Hwaong polder was planned for several water uses including recreation, where people can contact the water and consume some amount during the recreational activity. A human health risk was assessed from exposure to E. coli in the Namyang Stream, which receives partially treated wastewater from watershed. The QUAL2E model was applied to simulate stream water quality, and this model was calibrated and verified with field monitoring data. The calibration result showed a high correlation coefficient of greater than 0.9. The mean concentration of E. coli in the Namyang Stream from the QUAL2E output was in the range of 5,000 ${\sim}$ 8,000 MPN 100 mL^{-1}$, which exceeded national and international guidelines. The Beta-Poisson was used to estimate the microbial risk of pathogens ingestion and the Monte-Carlo analysis (10,000 trials) was used to estimate the risk characterization of uncertainty. The Microbial risk assessment showed that the risk ranged from 7.9 ${\times}\;10^{-6}\;to\;9.4\;{\times}10^{-6}$. Based on USEPA guidelines, the range of $10^{-6}\;to\;10^{-8}$ was considered reasonable levels of risk for communicable disease transmission from environmental exposure, and the risk above $10^{-4}$ was considered to be in the danger of infection. Therefore, water quality of the Namyang Stream might not be in the danger of infection although it exceeded national and international guidelines. However, it was in the range of communicable disease transmission, and thorough wastewater collection and treatment at the source is recommended to secure safe recreation water quality.

Lahar Simulation on Ulleung Island Using Laharz_py Program (Laharz_py 프로그램을 이용한 울릉도 라하르 수치모의)

  • A Lahar on the volcanic area is one of the important hazard that can cause the loss of life and property damage. In order to estimate lahar hazard area at Ulleung Island, we simulated lahar inundation area using Laharz_py. We assumed 400 m of additional elevation for DEM to draw proximal hazard zone of Ulleung Island that H/L ratio were selected 0.45 and 0.5. And lahar volumes for simulation were estimated to 30,000, 50,000, 70,000, $100,000m^3$, respectively. In the results, 5 streams are located near a proximal hazard zone, Jeodong (east), Sadong and Okchon (southeast), Namyang (southwest), and Chusan (north), Nari basin is also considered that has a possibility of lahar during downpour. The results of this study can be used as basic data to make a hazard map for reduce the damage that can be caused by volcanic hazards occurred on Ulleung Island.

  • 우리나라는 산업화 이후 많은 인공 저수지를 건설하였으며, 이후 부영양화 등의 수질 악화로 하천 및 호소의 오염은 심각한 상황에 놓여있다. 이에 대해 점오염원에 대한 대책을 마련하였지만, 하천 및 호소의 오염저감에 한계를 드러내었으며 그 원인을 비점오염원에서 오염물질이 대량으로 하천 및 호소에 유입되기 때문인 것으로 추정하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 화성호의 주요 유입하천(남양천, 자안천, 어은천) 유역의 오염원 조사와 유입하천의 강우시기별 수질 및 유량조사를 통하여 오염부하량의 산정 및 유입하천의 오염부하량 유달율을 산정함으로써, 비점오염원에 대한 보다 명확한 대책 마련을 위한 기초 자료로 활용하고자 하였다. 강우시 수질 및 유량조사 결과, 유입하천의 유량은 강우 사상과 매우 큰 관계를 지니며, 강우 강도 및 강우 지속 시간 등의 변화에도 많은 유출 특성의 변화가 일어나는 것으로 조사되었다. 월별 유달율 산정 결과 홍수기에 가장 높았으며, 이는 강우의 집중으로 인한 비점오염물질에 의한 영향으로 판단된다. 강우시의 유달율이 높게 나타난 것은 강우시에는 점 및 비점오염원 모두에서 비점오염 형태로의 유출 가능성이 커 이에 대한 집중적인 관리가 필요할 것으로 판단되며, 유달율 산정으로 하천 수계 특성에 적합한 소유역의 유달율 적용을 통해 점 및 비점오염원에 대한 효율적인 관리를 위한 자료로 이용함으로써 하천 및 수계 관리를 위해 보다 실효성 있는 관리 방안을 마련할 수 있을 것이다.

Analysis of Land Use and Pollutant Source Effect on Water Quality Characteristics of the Watershed (유역의 토지이용과 오염원 현황이 수질특성에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The influence of land use and pollutant source on water quality was investigated using 3-yrs monitoring data major influent stream in Hwaong reservoir watershed. The seven water quality station (N1, N2, J1, J3, J4, E2, E3) were used analysis of land use and pollutant effect, and six water quality station (N3, N4, J2, J5, E1, E4) were used analysis of waster quality status. Water quality parameter were positively correlated with residential and forest, negatively with paddy and upland especially during dry period. During wet period, correlation between land use and water quality was less apparent. Population and livestock density was correlated well to water quality parameter than just number of population and livestock. The watersheds studied are mainly non-urban and their land uses are similar to typical watershed of other estuarine reservoirs, therefore, the correlation developed in this study might be helpful to manage other estuarine reservoir watersheds.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of stream water quality and to charify the management of watershed environment from the standpoint of hydrological geography. To achieve the purpose of the study, the Wangsook River was chosen. As the result of this study, the specific conclusions were drawn. 1. In general, WT(water temperature) of the downstream is higher than that of the upstream. The value of winter WT measured in densely populated area is higher than that measured under the natural conditions. The seasonal variation of WT at upstream sites is greater than that of downstream. 2. Rhe water quality of main channel is dependent on that of tributaries. Especially, the values of pH, EC, TDS in main channel depend upon those of tributaries. Among the tributaries of the Wangsook river, the Jingun-chon and Yongam-chon have mostly influence on the water quality of the main channel. 3. Generally, the values of COD measured in the Wangsook River are over the 5th Grade considering from a point of water quality standards of inland lake. However, BOD, phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations have to be measured to clear the water quality conditions of the river. 4. The regional people who live in the catchment of Wangsook river have different perception about the water pollution of the river. The regional people lacks in the understanding of the Wangsook river cause a bad influence upon the hydrological management of watershed environment.

  • Riparian zone occupies not more than 5% of the total watershed area and can be considered in between the terrestrial and aquatic ecology as that does not fall under both of them. Unlike to common terrestrial plant that can e seen on other land, the riparian vegetation that exist in riparian zone can be classified into various groups because of their peculiar living form. The recognition of importance of terrestrial environment has considered the importance of natural river due to which even today, the movement throughout the world to retrograde the river development is taking place customarily. In this research, noticing the actual condition of the river management reality, the original capacity of river landscaping of Han river has been quantified grasping the actual condition of riparian vegetation from distribution area surveying and analysis. The objective of the research is to find out the river retrogression and maintenance methods based on the ecological environmental quality around the river by maintaining the river plants having high natural capacity and river planning method based on the harmony between conservation of river environment and use of riparian zone.

  • 지난 2008년 11월 중앙정부와 팔당수계 7개 시 군은 수질보전과 더불어 지역사회의 개발을 위해 2008년 '수질오염총량관리제도'(이하 오총제)의 의무제 도입을 합의하였다. 오총제의 의무제 도입에 따라 수행되어야 할 각 유역별 토지이용 특성 분석 및 배출되는 오염물질의 정도의 명확한 규명이 이루어지지 않고 있기 때문에 유역관리의 방향 설정이 어려운 상황에 놓여있다. 이에 본 연구는 기존의 농도규제에서 좀 더 과학적 수질관리 기법인 총량관리 개념의 '수질오염 총량관리제도'의 도입에 따라 효율적이며 과학적인 소유역 관리를 위해, 토지이용과 오염물질 유출 간의 관계를 파악하고자 하였다. 대상유역은 앞서 언급한 7개 시 군의 각각 주요 하천 3개소를 선정하여 총 21개소를 2009년 6월부터 12월까지 7개월 동안 월 3회씩 BOD 및 COD를 모니터링하였다. 또한 그 유역을 전수조사를 통해 토지이용도를 조사하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면, 토지이용에 따른 산림지역이 가장 많은 지역은 가평군 남양주시로 나타났고, 도시 및 주거지가 많은 지역은 여주군, 용인시 및 이천시이며, 농지가 많은 지역은 양평군 여주군으로 나타났다. COD 및 BOD의 배출 정도는 농지와 도시 및 주거지가 많은 지역에서 높은 수준(p<$0.05^*$)으로 나타났으며, 특히 도시 및 주거지가 많은 유역에서 그 정도가 더욱 심각한 것으로 나타났다. 이에 반하여 임지의 토지 이용률이 증가할수록 BOD 및 COD 평균농도는 감소하는 것으로 나타났다(p<0.001).

Morphological Development of Egg and Larvae of Gnathopogon strigatus (Gobioninae) (줄몰개(Gnathopogon strigatus)의 난 발생 및 자치어 형태 발달)

  • This study is to observe species identification and early life history of Gnathopogon strigatus and to use it as a basis for taxonomic studies and conservation of species. For the experiments, the mature adults were collected at the Wang-suk Stream located in Namyang-ju city, Gyeong-gi Province and eggs were artificially fertilized by the wet method in the laboratory. The shape of the fertilized egg was globular, adhesive, opaque white in color and had no oil globules. The fertilized egg was 1.66~1.88 mm (average 1.76 mm, n=30) in diameter. The blastular stage occurred at 3 hours 05 minutes after fertilization and the gastrular stage was detected at 8 hours 30 minutes after fertilization. The embryo began to hatch about 54 hrs after fertilization under water temperature of $23{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and the newly hatched larva (yolksac larva) were 4.1~4.7 mm (mean 4.4 mm, n=20) in total length (TL). The fourth day after hatching, the postlarva were 5.4~5.9 mm (mean 5.6 mm, n=20) in total length, their york sacs were completely absorbed and Start eating Artemia sp. Ten days after hatching, flexion larva were begins Notochord flexion were 7.5~8.6 mm (mean 8.1 mm, n=20) in total length. Sixteenth day after hatching, postflexion larva were complete Notochord flexion were 8.2~9.7 mm (mean 9.1 mm, n=20) in total length. At thirty-eight days after hatching, Juvenile were arrive integer all fin rays and similar to those of adults were 11.3~15.5 mm (mean 13.3 mm, n=20) in total length.
